Make the rest screens part of the video itself, then send that prepared loop to YouTube Live using either the computer webcam route or an encoder. YouTube does not prescribe yoga sequences or provide a rest-card timer for this workflow, so the reliable approach is to time each rest screen while editing the video. Preview the stream in Live Control Room before starting, and use footage and music you have rights to broadcast.

1. Choose how to send the video to YouTube Live

Route Best fit What it involves
Computer webcam A simple setup using a computer webcam YouTube’s webcam route is intended for streaming from a computer with a webcam. It is a straightforward option for a basic camera feed.
Encoder A more controlled production or a feed using additional inputs In YouTube Live Control Room, obtain the server URL and stream key, enter them in the encoder, start its feed, then check the preview before going live.

YouTube says expensive equipment is not necessary; use the equipment you already have. A dedicated camera, microphone, hardware encoder, or paid software is not a requirement established by its guidance. See YouTube’s live-streaming overview and live-streaming tips.

2. Build the stretch loop and time the rest screens

  1. Arrange the movement clips. Choose the stretches and order that suit your class. YouTube’s platform guidance does not specify a yoga sequence or exercise timing; select these based on your own teaching and audience.
  2. Insert rest cards as video segments. Add a screen between movement demonstrations, set its duration in the video editor, and include a countdown or clear rest duration plus a prompt for the next movement. The timing will then be part of the prepared video rather than depending on a separate live timer.
  3. Make the sequence repeat cleanly. Place the end of the sequence next to its beginning without an unintended blank or abrupt transition. Repeat the sequence in the video so viewers who join partway through have another chance to see each movement.
  4. Review the finished video. Watch it through, including the transition back to the beginning, and confirm that each card displays the intended duration and next-movement prompt. YouTube’s reviewed help pages do not describe a native yoga rest-card timer.

3. Check rights before broadcasting

YouTube’s live-stream terms require the content provider to have the necessary rights for live content, explicitly including music licensing rights. Use original footage and audio, or material whose permissions cover the live broadcast and any replay you plan to keep. Permission for a song or clip in another context should not be assumed to cover a YouTube Live broadcast or its archive. Consult YouTube’s terms; rights questions can depend on the material and applicable jurisdiction.

4. Set up the YouTube Live stream

  1. Check channel eligibility. YouTube currently requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restriction in the prior 90 days. Confirm the current eligibility and prompts in YouTube Studio, as platform requirements and interface labels may change. See YouTube’s live-streaming overview.
  2. Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go live, then create or schedule the stream and choose the intended privacy and other settings. Check those settings before sharing the event.
  3. Connect the production route. For a webcam stream, follow YouTube’s on-screen webcam flow. For an encoder, copy the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room into the corresponding encoder fields, then start the prepared video feed. Treat the stream key like a password: it directs the encoder feed to your channel, so do not publish or share it.
  4. Wait for the preview. In Live Control Room, verify the expected video and audio before selecting Go live. YouTube recommends testing the setup and checking the preview. You can use a public or unlisted event for a test, depending on who should be able to access it.

5. Monitor the live broadcast and plan the replay

  • Check the audio and video in Live Control Room before starting and keep an eye on stream quality during the broadcast. If the picture or sound is wrong, pause the start if possible and correct the source or encoder feed before continuing.
  • YouTube says encoder streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. For streams longer than 12 hours, DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable. These are platform limits, not recommended class lengths. See YouTube’s encoder guidance and DVR guidance.
  • Repeating the stretch sequence inside the video is useful for late arrivals regardless of whether DVR is available. Do not rely on viewers being able to rewind a very long stream.

Common problems and fixes

  • No preview appears: Confirm that the encoder is running and that its server URL and stream key match the current event in Live Control Room. Keep the key private.
  • The stream starts with the wrong scene or no sound: Check the encoder’s selected video and audio sources, then verify the preview again before going live.
  • Rest screens do not last as intended: Adjust their duration in the video edit and review the rendered loop. The timing is a property of the prepared video; YouTube’s reviewed guidance does not provide a separate rest-card timer.
  • A viewer cannot rewind to an earlier stretch: DVR may be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. Keep the sequence repeating so movements return for viewers who join late.
  • Music or footage raises a rights concern: Replace it with original or appropriately licensed material before broadcasting; the provider is responsible for necessary live-content rights, including music rights.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is a YouTube channel that keeps uploaded videos looping while your computer is off, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload the prepared video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams what you uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; Monthly is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos to YouTube; it is not a camera-live setup. Start the free day with StreamNeo.
