A live label does not make old footage newly created, guarantee monetization, or mean one broadcast can run indefinitely. Build and test the workflow before making it public.
Can I livestream prerecorded videos on YouTube?
Yes. YouTube supports encoder-based live streams, and the encoder can send a feed made from prerecorded clips. You still need an eligible channel, a working playback-and-encoding setup, a stable upload connection, and rights to the video and audio. YouTube scans live streams for third-party material and may interrupt or terminate a broadcast.

There is no official guarantee that a single stream can run forever or that an unattended setup will stay online. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that is an archive condition, not a promise of a complete archive for longer streams or a 24/7 service guarantee.
Recommended Free Tools
1. Check footage rights before building the channel
Make an inventory of each tour and confirm who filmed it, who owns it, and what permissions cover online streaming, archived playback, and any planned monetization. Permission to film does not automatically establish permission for worldwide online distribution or commercial use. Keep written records.

- Check whether guests, crew, or other identifiable people appear and whether you have the necessary permissions.
- Listen for background music, television audio, or other third-party material. A license may not prevent a live interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel with Content ID.
- Review YouTube’s Terms of Service and its copyright guidance for live streams. The content provider is responsible for obtaining required rights.
- Verify cruise-line, vessel, and country-specific requirements separately. They vary, and the platform guidance does not establish the rules for a particular ship or location.
2. Give the channel an editorial purpose
Organize tours by ship and cabin category, and label each video accurately. A useful sequence can identify the ship, the recording date or sailing where known, the cabin category, and what the tour covers. Describe only features that are visible or otherwise verified; distinguish what the footage shows from general advice.
Consider adding original narration, captions, comparisons, or practical observations. Make your role in filming and producing the tours clear in the channel description and stream descriptions. These choices can help viewers understand the material and make your original contribution clearer to YouTube reviewers, but they do not guarantee monetization approval.
3. Confirm YouTube Live eligibility and create a test stream
YouTube’s current help guidance says a channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. Check the channel’s current eligibility in YouTube Studio before preparing a public broadcast, since restrictions can prevent you from going live.

- In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go live and follow the prompts to enable or check live streaming.
- Create a test stream. Set its visibility to Unlisted so you can check playback without presenting it as a public channel launch.
- Choose an encoder workflow and configure the stream in Live Control Room. Scheduling can provide a public watch page and reminders when that suits your programming.
- Copy the server URL and stream key from YouTube into the encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, and regenerate it if it is exposed.
- Start sending the feed, then use the Live Control Room preview to check it before making the broadcast public.
See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions for the current Studio flow and stream-key details.
4. Choose and configure a playback and encoding setup
Your setup must repeatedly play the cabin-tour clips and encode the resulting picture and sound for YouTube. YouTube supports software encoding as well as hardware encoder workflows. Dedicated hardware is an option for higher-production-value events, not a requirement for every channel; compare cost, supported formats, file looping, and how you will recover from faults before buying anything.
Set the encoder to match the files and intended stream quality, and confirm that it can send the video and audio reliably to YouTube’s server URL using the stream key. Check the current encoder and Live Control Room settings together rather than assuming a setting from one workflow applies to another. Preview the outgoing feed before going public. YouTube’s live encoder settings document describes supported recommendations; use it when choosing resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe settings.

5. Test the connection, transitions, and recovery
Measure upstream upload capacity; download speed does not tell you whether the connection can sustain a live feed. YouTube recommends keeping available upload bandwidth 20% above the total stream bitrate. For example, if the encoder sends a 10 Mbps stream, aim for at least 12 Mbps of available upload capacity under the conditions in which you will broadcast. This is YouTube’s recommended headroom, not a guarantee against interruptions.
Test the complete sequence before launch. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring the audio and video, and its live streaming tips cover production preparation.
- Check that picture and sound stay in sync, and listen for silence, clipping, or unwanted audio.
- Watch for black frames or gaps when one cabin tour ends and the next begins.
- Test what happens if a source file fails, the player stops, or the network drops. Confirm that the encoder resumes correctly and that you can tell when it has not.
- Monitor the picture and audio during the broadcast. The official guidance does not certify a particular unattended 24/7 setup or guarantee uptime.
6. Plan stream length, schedules, and archives
YouTube’s encoder setup guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not rely on that statement as a guarantee for a longer broadcast. If preserving the tours matters, record and store your own copies independently, and verify that local recording files are growing and playable.

Decide whether the channel will use scheduled sessions or a continuous feed. Sessions can make a schedule and individual watch pages clearer; a continuous feed can offer ongoing viewing but makes playback, monitoring, and recovery more consequential. Test the chosen format and describe the schedule honestly. YouTube’s guidance does not establish which approach performs better for cruise-cabin audiences.
7. Understand monetization separately from copyright
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams. Its reused-content review is separate from copyright enforcement: permission to use footage does not by itself settle whether a channel qualifies for monetization. YouTube says reused material needs meaningful original commentary, modification, or educational or entertainment value; repetitive or mass-produced material may be considered inauthentic.
Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies and reused-content guidance. Reviewers may consider videos, channel descriptions, titles, and descriptions. No narration or formatting choice guarantees approval, ad revenue, or uninterrupted streaming.
Common problems and fixes
- You cannot start a live stream: Check channel verification, age eligibility, and any current live-streaming restriction in YouTube Studio.
- YouTube detects third-party content or interrupts the feed: Identify the audio or footage, confirm the relevant rights, and check whether a licensed rights holder must allowlist the channel for Content ID.
- The stream buffers or drops: Measure upstream bandwidth during the planned broadcast, preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and investigate instability in the connection or encoder.
- The stream has gaps or goes silent between tours: Test file transitions and audio levels in an unlisted session, then adjust the playback sequence or encoder workflow.
- A long stream is missing or incomplete in the archive: YouTube’s automatic archive statement covers streams under 12 hours. Record the feed independently and verify the local files rather than relying on an archive for a longer session.
- The channel is rejected for monetization despite having footage permission: Copyright permission and reused-content review are different questions. Show meaningful original contribution and consult YouTube’s monetization policy; approval remains YouTube’s decision.
