You can make a named WhatsApp sticker pack on either Android or iPhone by creating or selecting a sticker, choosing Add to sticker pack, selecting New, entering a name, and saving. The same current WhatsApp workflow works on both platforms. If the controls are missing, update WhatsApp from your phone’s app store, because custom packs are supported in the latest Android and iOS versions.
What you need before creating a pack
The basic in-app method starts with a sticker. That sticker can come from a photo you choose in WhatsApp, a picture you take with the camera, or an existing sticker already visible in a chat or sticker tray. You do not need a separate physical product or a desktop program for this workflow.

WhatsApp notes that interface labels can vary by app version. The names below are the current labels documented in its Help Center instructions for creating and sharing custom stickers and sticker packs; a nearby equivalent control may appear on your device.

Create a sticker from a photo
This step is optional if you already have a sticker. It is the quickest way to turn a picture into a sticker directly inside a conversation.

- Open an individual or group chat.
- Open the emoji and sticker area, then switch to the sticker tray.
- Choose Create.
- Select a photo from your device gallery, or use the camera to take a new picture.
- Review the preview. Use the available controls to add a sticker or emoji, insert text, or draw on the image.
- When the result looks right, send the sticker.
The creation controls are applied on the preview before the sticker is sent. If you need a different crop, decoration, caption, or drawing, make that change at this stage rather than assuming you can reconstruct the same edit later. The exact set of editing buttons can change with WhatsApp updates and with the phone’s operating system.
Sending the sticker makes it available in the conversation. The next section explains how to place it in a named pack so that you can find it with the rest of your custom stickers.
Turn a sticker into a new named pack
A pack is created from a sticker, not from a separate pack-management screen. You can use the sticker you just made or one that is already in a chat or in your sticker tray.
- In the sticker tray, tap and hold the sticker. Alternatively, tap a sticker in a chat to open its available actions.
- Choose Add to sticker pack.
- Choose New when WhatsApp asks which pack should receive the sticker.
- Enter the pack name.
- Save the pack.
The sticker is now associated with the new pack. Use a name that will still make sense when several packs are installed; for example, a theme such as “Weekend,” “Pet reactions,” or “Work chat” is easier to recognize than a name that describes only one picture.

If you choose an existing pack instead of New, the sticker is added there and no second pack is made. This is useful when you are building a theme gradually rather than creating many one-sticker packs.
Add stickers and edit an existing pack
Add another sticker while chatting
Repeat the same add-to-pack action for each sticker you want to include. From the tray, tap and hold a sticker; from a conversation, tap the sticker; then choose Add to sticker pack and select the pack you already created. This lets you build a collection over time instead of preparing every image in one session.
Use WhatsApp’s pack editing controls
WhatsApp’s documented editing flow is:
- Open the edit control for sticker packs.
- Choose the pack you want to change.
- Select the stickers to add.
- Use the move-to-top control when you want that pack to appear earlier in your list.
The move-to-top control changes the pack’s position in your sticker list; it does not change the images inside the pack. Because WhatsApp can adjust the placement or wording of controls between releases, look for an edit icon or an equivalent pack-management action if the label is not identical on your phone.

Share the sticker pack with a contact or group
Once the pack has been created and imported, you can send the pack itself instead of sending stickers one at a time.

- Open the individual or group chat where you want to share it.
- Open the emoji and sticker area.
- Tap More.
- Choose Send.
- Select the pack when WhatsApp presents your available packs, then send it.
The recipient can use the shared pack after importing it into WhatsApp. Sharing a pack is different from forwarding a single sticker: the pack action gives the other person the collection, while a forwarded sticker remains an individual item in the chat.
Importing prepared sticker files: size and format limits
The in-chat photo creator is separate from WhatsApp’s requirements for uploaded sticker files. If you prepare files elsewhere or use an import-capable workflow, every file must meet the applicable limits. WhatsApp lists different requirements for static and animated packs, and a single pack cannot mix the two types.

These are WhatsApp Help Center limits, not suggested targets. A static file above 100 KB or a file that exceeds 512 × 512 pixels may fail an import or require optimization first. For an animated file, check both the 500 KB limit and the 10-second total duration. If you need both static and animated artwork, make separate packs rather than combining them.
The limits also explain why an image that looks fine in your gallery can still be rejected as a sticker file: a phone’s photo viewer does not enforce WhatsApp’s pack dimensions or byte limits. Resize the artwork to no more than 512 × 512 pixels and compress it while preserving legibility, then verify the resulting file size before importing.

Android and iPhone: what is the same and what may differ
For the core task, Android and iPhone follow the same documented sequence: open the sticker area, create or select a sticker, add it to a pack, choose New for the first sticker, name and save the pack, then share it through More and Send. The pack limits for uploaded files also apply to both platforms.
What can differ is the visual placement of controls and the wording around the photo picker or camera permission. WhatsApp says custom sticker packs are available in the latest versions of its Android and iOS apps. If you cannot find Create, Add to sticker pack, or the pack-sharing controls, update WhatsApp through Google Play or the Apple App Store and reopen the app. Do not assume that a missing button means your phone is unsupported; an outdated app is the first condition to correct.

WhatsApp also documents AI sticker creation, but it is not guaranteed to appear for every account or location. The feature is currently offered only in limited countries. WhatsApp lists English, Indonesian, Portuguese, and Spanish as supported prompt languages and says the tool can generate up to four stickers. If the AI option is absent, updating WhatsApp may help, but an update cannot override a country or account availability limit. You can still use the photo-based creator and existing stickers.
Troubleshoot a missing button, failed import, or absent pack
The Create option is missing
- Update WhatsApp from your device’s app store, then close and reopen the app.
- Open a real individual or group chat before opening the emoji and sticker area; the creation control is documented in the chat composer.
- Check that you are looking in the sticker tray rather than only the emoji or GIF tabs.
- If the feature still does not appear, the control may have a different label or position in your installed app version.
Add to sticker pack does not appear
- Tap the sticker itself in a chat or tap and hold it in the tray; tapping empty space will not open sticker actions.
- Use the sticker’s action menu and look specifically for Add to sticker pack.
- When creating the first pack, choose New; when adding to a pack you already made, select that pack instead.
An imported file is rejected
- For a static sticker, verify that the file is no larger than 100 KB and no more than 512 × 512 pixels.
- For an animated sticker, verify the 500 KB maximum, 512 × 512-pixel maximum, and 10-second total-duration limit.
- Confirm that the pack contains no more than 30 stickers.
- Check that every sticker in the pack is the same type: all static or all animated.
Fix the file and try the import again rather than adding an oversized file repeatedly. If the in-app photo creator works but a prepared file does not, that points to a file specification issue rather than a problem with your ability to create a pack.
The pack is hard to find or share
- Open the emoji and sticker area and use More to view available packs.
- Use the documented move-to-top control if you want the pack nearer the front of the list.
- To send it to someone else, open their chat, choose More, and then Send from the sticker area.
Use artwork you are allowed to share
WhatsApp says stickers must be legal, authorized, and acceptable under its service terms. Use photos you took yourself, artwork you created, or material for which you have permission. A picture being visible online does not by itself grant permission to turn it into a sticker or distribute it in a pack.
Be especially careful with recognizable people, private conversations, logos, copyrighted illustrations, and images supplied by someone else. If you are making a group pack, agree on what may be included before sharing it broadly. Removing a sticker later does not undo copies that other people have already imported.

- Update WhatsApp on Android or iPhone.
- Open a chat and enter the sticker tray.
- Choose Create, then select a gallery photo or take one with the camera.
- Use the preview tools for stickers or emoji, text, and drawing, then send the finished sticker.
- Tap and hold the sticker in the tray, or tap it in the chat.
- Choose Add to sticker pack, select New, enter a name, and save.
- Add additional stickers to that pack as you make them.
- If using imported files, enforce the 512 × 512-pixel, file-size, duration, and 30-sticker limits for the correct sticker type.
- Open the destination chat, choose the sticker area, tap More, and choose Send to share the pack.
This process gives Android and iPhone users the same essential result: a named custom pack that can be expanded, moved in the sticker list, and sent to individual or group chats.
