To make a seamless loop for a 24/7 YouTube music stream, edit the audio so its ending blends naturally into its beginning, audition that boundary repeatedly, then enable looping in your streaming software. A loop setting repeats a file; it cannot repair a jarring edit. No single edit guarantees an inaudible join for every recording, so test the rendered file by ear before going live.
How to prepare music for a seamless loop
- Choose a suitable segment. Use audio you have the right to broadcast. Look for a musical phrase, sustained note, or steady ambience where the end could plausibly meet the beginning. Remove leading or trailing silence only if listening confirms it improves the join; do not cut off a note or ambience tail just to make the endpoints look alike.
- Audition the repeat point. In Audacity, select the region you intend to repeat and use loop playback while editing. This lets you hear the boundary repeatedly, but it is only an editing preview—not the setting that will repeat the file during the YouTube broadcast. See Audacity’s playback guide.
- Try a crossfade. For clips on the same track, Audacity’s Crossfade Clips effect uses an approximately equal selection from the end of one clip and beginning of the next. For clips on separate tracks, arrange an overlap and use Crossfade Tracks. Compare the results by ear: a long overlap can blur rhythm or phrasing, while a short one may leave the seam audible. Audacity explains Crossfade Clips and Crossfade Tracks.
- Check the fade shape and level. A linear crossfade can sound quieter in the middle. Equal-power fades are designed to reduce that perceived dip, but may raise peak level. Listen for a volume dip or bump, doubled beat, phasey sound, click, or abrupt ambience change; adjust the overlap or edit point if you hear one. Audacity describes the options in its fade and crossfade guide.
- Render and check the finished file. There is no single crossfade duration or export format that suits every source. Listen to the rendered file’s end-to-start boundary several times, and check for unexpected silence, clipping, missing audio, or a visible video discontinuity.
Loop the finished file in OBS
Repeat one media file
Add the finished local file as a Media Source in OBS and enable Loop. OBS says this option restarts the file when playback completes. Make sure the source is audible and visible in the scene you intend to stream. The OBS Media Sources guide documents the available options.
Repeat a playlist
For a playlist, use a VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. This source requires VLC to be installed. Check that the playlist plays through as expected and that its transitions do not introduce a gap or abrupt change.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Confirm channel eligibility. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions during the preceding 90 days. Enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours. Check your channel in YouTube Studio before planning the broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Get the server URL and stream key. In YouTube Live Control Room, copy the server URL and stream key into the corresponding encoder settings in OBS. Treat the key like a password: do not share it or show it in a public screenshot.
- Start and verify the broadcast. Start streaming in OBS, then check the YouTube preview to confirm that the intended scene, audio, and loop are reaching the channel. YouTube’s encoder setup guide covers the connection workflow. Stopping the encoder feed ends the stream. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that does not establish that a single archived video will be created for a 24/7 stream.
Copyright and YouTube Live rules to check
YouTube Help says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” If it identifies third-party material, a placeholder may replace the stream and the creator may receive a warning; continued use can result in interruption or termination. YouTube also says that even licensed material may require the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Confirm that your rights cover the live broadcast and any archived copy, and follow the owner’s allowlisting instructions where applicable. A “copyright-free” label or purchase of a track alone does not guarantee that a claim will not occur. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

Fix common loop problems
- A click at the boundary: Revisit the edit point and crossfade. Check that you have not cut into a waveform abruptly, then audition the rendered file rather than relying only on the editing preview.
- A dip or surge in loudness: Compare fade shapes and overlap lengths. Equal-power crossfades may help with a perceived dip, but listen for a peak-level increase as well.
- The rhythm sounds doubled or blurred: Shorten the overlap or choose a different transition point. A crossfade can smooth a seam but also blend distinct musical beats or phrases.
- Playback stops instead of restarting: Check that Loop is enabled on the OBS Media Source. If repeating a VLC playlist, check Loop Playlist and confirm VLC is installed.
- YouTube shows no picture or sound: Verify the selected OBS scene and source, then check the preview in YouTube Live Control Room. Confirm the server URL and stream key are entered in the encoder.
- The stream is interrupted over a rights claim: Stop and review the material and the rights covering the live use and archive. If the owner requires allowlisting, resolve that with the rights owner; do not assume that a purchased or labelled track is automatically cleared.
