To make a fireplace video loop smoothly on YouTube Live, edit and inspect the clip’s end-to-start join, export it as a local video, then repeat it with OBS Studio’s Media Source Loop option. OBS repeats a file; it cannot fix a visible or audible jump built into the edit, so test the exported loop before broadcasting.
1. Start with footage and sound you can use
Use footage and audio you recorded or have permission to use. YouTube’s monetization rules apply to live streams, but permission to use material does not by itself make a channel eligible for monetization.
Before editing, decide on the intended aspect ratio and frame rate. Keep the source’s quality where practical, while making sure your computer can decode the exported file and OBS can stream it reliably.
2. Find and refine the loop point
Choose a plausible transition
Compare the end of the candidate section with its beginning. Look at flame shape, brightness, camera position, and any movement in the frame. Fire is inherently variable, so identical frames may not exist; the goal is a transition that is unobtrusive, not a mathematically perfect match.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check the audio as carefully as the picture
Try a direct cut or a short overlap or crossfade if it makes the join less noticeable. Replay the end-to-start transition several times in your editor or preview player. Listen for a crackle that repeats conspicuously, a sudden silence, a click, or an abrupt change in loudness. There is no single crossfade recipe guaranteed to work for every recording.
Inspect the actual exported file, not just the editing timeline. A loop control will repeat whatever seam is encoded in that file.

3. Export a file suited to the planned stream
Export at a frame size and frame rate appropriate for your stream. Preserve source quality where practical, but prefer an encoding your computer can decode steadily over settings that strain it. For a slow-moving fireplace scene, you can test a lower frame rate if the flames still look natural; YouTube does not prescribe a specific frame rate for fireplace footage.
4. Loop the clip in OBS
For one video file: use Media Source
- In OBS, open or create the scene you will use for the broadcast.
- In the Sources panel, select + and choose Media Source. Create a new source, name it, and select the exported video file.
- Enable the source’s Loop option, then confirm the source settings.
- Preview the scene and let the file reach its end. Confirm that it starts again and inspect the transition at the loop point.
OBS Media Source supports local files including MP4, MOV, MKV, and WebM, among other formats. Its Loop option is off by default. The OBS documentation describes it as specifying whether the file plays again after playback completes: OBS Media Sources documentation.

For multiple clips: use VLC Video
If you want a playlist rather than one repeated file, OBS’s VLC Video source supports playlists and a Loop Playlist option. VLC must be installed for this source type to be available; OBS notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. See the same OBS Media Sources documentation.
OBS also offers scene transitions such as Fade and Cut, but a transition between scenes is different from repairing the end-to-start seam inside a single looping clip. See the OBS Studio Overview Guide.

5. Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Confirm that your channel can livestream before the planned broadcast. YouTube’s current eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days, and be operated by someone at least 16 years old. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it in advance. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance for current rules.
- In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or schedule an encoder stream and obtain its stream URL and stream key. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and connect using the stream key or the connection method offered in your OBS version. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to broadcast to your stream.
- Start the stream from OBS, then check the incoming preview and stream health in YouTube Live Control Room before making the broadcast public or starting it for viewers.
YouTube’s encoder setup guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a longer broadcast will be archived in the same way; check the current YouTube encoder setup guidance when planning a long-running stream.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.6. Choose encoder settings for a stable connection
YouTube’s encoder guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS ingest with H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and AAC or MP3 audio. YouTube recommends RTMPS and a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. Its bitrate guidance varies by resolution, frame rate, and codec; for H.264 at 1080p30, the current table lists 5 Mbps minimum and 10 Mbps recommended. These are YouTube ingest recommendations, not a promise that an encoder or internet connection can sustain the selected settings.

Set the encoder’s resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, and keyframe interval to match both your exported video and your available upload capacity. Avoid selecting a higher resolution or bitrate just for its nominal quality if it makes the connection unstable. YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple playback formats, so the encoder settings govern what you send to YouTube, not the only quality viewers can receive. Check YouTube’s live encoder settings for the current table before going live.
YouTube advises leaving upload headroom equal to 20% above the total bitrate. Test the actual audio and video beforehand and check stream health while live; guidance is at YouTube’s streaming tips.
7. Protect rights and understand monetization limits
Use visuals and sound that you own or are licensed to use. Copyright permission and monetization eligibility are separate questions: permission does not establish that a channel meets YouTube’s reused-content policy.
YouTube’s monetization policy applies to live streams. On July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” to clarify that repetitive or mass-produced content can be ineligible. Reviewers assess the channel, and the policy calls for original, authentic content. A channel built from nearly interchangeable long ambient loops may receive monetization scrutiny; no one can infer a particular review outcome from the format alone. Make your authorship and meaningful creative contribution clear. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
8. Troubleshoot common problems
The loop visibly jumps or the sound clicks
- Likely cause: The frames or sound at the clip’s end differ noticeably from its beginning.
- Fix: Try another loop point, adjust the cut or a short crossfade, export again, and replay the exported file’s join several times.
The clip stops instead of repeating
- Likely cause: Media Source’s Loop option is off, or the playlist source is not configured to loop.
- Fix: Reopen the source properties and enable Loop for Media Source or Loop Playlist for VLC Video. Confirm VLC is installed if using the VLC source.
YouTube does not receive the stream
- Likely cause: The stream key or URL is incorrect, the channel is not yet eligible, or first-time livestream activation has not completed.
- Fix: Confirm eligibility, allow for the possible first-time activation delay, copy the current stream details from Live Control Room, and inspect the YouTube preview before going live.
The stream buffers, drops frames, or has poor health
- Likely cause: The selected ingest bitrate exceeds stable upload capacity, or the encoding workload is too demanding for the computer.
- Fix: Test with audio and motion similar to the planned stream, reduce bitrate or other demanding settings if needed, and retain YouTube’s recommended upload headroom. Use the current encoder table to select settings appropriate to the resolution, frame rate, and codec.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you would rather not keep OBS and a computer running at home, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video or playlist live on YouTube from the cloud. Upload your fireplace video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; the video streams as uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and streams to YouTube.
