How to Make a Crazy Craft 2.2 Server in Minecraft (Legacy 1.6.4 Guide)

To make a Crazy Craft 2.2 server, use the original VoidWrath server pack for Minecraft 1.6.4, install it with the matching legacy Forge files, run it with Java 8, accept the EULA, and give players an address they can reach. Every player must use the same Crazy Craft 2.2 release, Minecraft version, Forge build, mods and configuration files.

This is a guide to the original Crazy Craft 2.2 release, not Crazy Craft 3, 4 or a later “Updated” edition. VoidWrath identifies version 2.2.0 as a multiplayer pack for Minecraft 1.6.4 with 70 mods. Treat that version information as a hard compatibility requirement while you set up and troubleshoot the server.

What Crazy Craft 2.2 actually is

Crazy Craft 2.2 is a legacy Java Edition modpack from VoidWrath. Its pack page identifies the release as version 2.2.0 for Minecraft 1.6.4 and lists 70 mods. The same page describes the pack as multiplayer-enabled and says it contains more than 50 unusual, deliberately random mods. Those figures describe the published pack, not a performance test or a guarantee of how much memory your particular world will use.

Item Required value for this guide Why it matters
Pack Crazy Craft 2.2, original VoidWrath release Files from later Crazy Craft editions are not interchangeable.
Pack release 2.2.0 Clients and server must resolve to the same release.
Minecraft 1.6.4 Forge, mods and Java behavior are tied to this old game version.
Mods 70 listed by VoidWrath A missing, extra or client-only mod can stop a Forge server or prevent login.
Multiplayer Supported You can run a private server, provided networking and file compatibility are correct.

The most common setup mistake is searching for a modern tutorial and copying its files or Java settings. A 1.6.4 server is not a 1.7.10, 1.12, 1.16 or current-version server. Freeze the exact release before downloading anything.

Compatibility checklist before downloading

Write down the version contract for your group and do not change one part independently. You need:

  • Crazy Craft 2.2, release 2.2.0, from the original VoidWrath distribution.
  • Minecraft 1.6.4 on every client and on the server.
  • The Forge/modloader files included or specified by that server pack.
  • The same mods and configuration files on every installation, except files that are explicitly client-only.
  • A Java 8 runtime available to the server process. Technic’s compatibility table states that Java 8 works for Minecraft versions below 1.17; 1.6.4 falls in that range.
  • A folder in which you can keep the server files, world saves, logs and launch script together.

Do not begin by adding optimization mods, changing Forge versions or copying a favorite mod from another pack. First get an untouched, matching installation to start successfully. Make a separate backup before experimenting.

Install the matching client

Players need a working client before you test the server. VoidWrath documents a VoidLauncher workflow: install the launcher, open its Mod Packs tab, locate Crazy Craft 2.2 and load it. The official-server button in that workflow is for joining the listed official server; it does not create a private server on your computer.

Technic’s support guidance gives another installation route: search for the pack by name in the launcher, or paste the pack’s platform link into the launcher when one is supplied. Whichever launcher route your group uses, verify that it reports the original 1.6.4 release rather than a similarly named later pack.

  1. Install the launcher you have selected for the group.
  2. Search for “Crazy Craft 2.2” and inspect the displayed Minecraft version and release number.
  3. Install the pack without manually replacing its mods or configuration files.
  4. Launch it once in single-player. This confirms that the client can load the legacy Java/Forge environment before networking is introduced.
  5. Close the game and record the installation location. You may need it to compare mod and configuration files with the server pack.

If one player’s launcher shows a different Minecraft version, stop there. Reinstall the exact 2.2.0/1.6.4 pack instead of trying to make the newer installation connect.

Obtain the correct server pack

Use the “Download the Server Pack” path on the VoidWrath Crazy Craft page. The server download must correspond to the 2.2.0 release identified as Minecraft 1.6.4. A server pack from Crazy Craft 3, 4 or an “Updated” edition can contain a different Forge build, different mod IDs and different configuration formats, even if the names look similar.

After downloading, keep the archive intact until you have confirmed its contents. If the archive contains a supplied start script, use that script rather than inventing a new one. If it contains only the files and a Forge installer, follow the Forge server procedure below.

Build the server folder with Forge

Technic’s official Forge procedure is the safest baseline for a legacy pack: create a dedicated folder, run the Forge installer in server-install mode for the same Minecraft version as the client, copy the pack’s mods and configuration files, remove client-only mods, and launch with the supplied or created script.

  1. Create a dedicated folder. Use a short path such as a folder named for the pack on the host computer. Avoid placing the server inside the client’s live installation or a system-protected directory.
  2. Run the matching Forge installer. Choose the installer option to install a server and point it at the new folder. The Forge version must be the one expected by the Crazy Craft 2.2 server pack; do not substitute a current installer.
  3. Copy server files from the pack. Transfer the supplied mods, config and any mod asset directories into the server folder. Preserve subfolders and filenames exactly.
  4. Remove client-only content. Technic specifically instructs server owners to remove client-only mods and their related configuration files. A minimap, visual effect, launcher overlay or other client utility may be valid on a player’s computer but invalid on a dedicated server. When the pack documentation identifies a file as client-only, leave it out of the server folder.
  5. Keep the world separate from the download. Let the first server launch create its world directory. Do not copy a client save into the server unless you have made a backup and confirmed that the save belongs to this exact pack release.
  6. Use the supplied start script. The archive may include a Windows .bat file or a Linux/macOS .sh file. Keep the script in the server folder so relative paths resolve correctly.

If you are assembling the folder manually, compare the resulting mods and config directories with a clean client installation. The goal is parity, not a byte-for-byte copy of files that can only run on a client.

Start the server and accept the EULA

The first launch normally stops after generating the Minecraft EULA file. This is expected for a new server, not evidence that Forge failed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. On Windows, double-click the supplied .bat script. On Linux or macOS, run the supplied .sh script from a terminal in the server folder.
  2. Wait for the process to create eula.txt. If the window closes immediately, run the script from a terminal so the error remains visible.
  3. Open eula.txt in a text editor and change eula=false to eula=true only after reading and accepting Mojang’s EULA.
  4. Save the file without changing its name or extension.
  5. Run the same start script again and watch the console for Forge and mod-loading messages.

A successful startup reaches a ready state in the console and leaves the process running. The exact wording varies by Forge build. Do not close the console after it becomes ready; that process is the server.

Use Java 8 explicitly

Crazy Craft 2.2 targets Minecraft 1.6.4. Technic’s version table says Java 8 works for Minecraft versions below 1.17, making Java 8 the conservative baseline for this pack. Newer operating-system defaults may select a later Java runtime, so check what the script actually invokes.

At a command prompt or terminal, run:

java -version

If the result is not a Java 8 runtime, install or locate Java 8 and edit the start script so its Java command points to that executable. The exact path depends on your operating system. Keep the rest of the server-pack arguments unchanged unless the pack’s own instructions require an adjustment.

Typical symptoms of the wrong runtime include an immediate process exit, a class-version error, a Forge bootstrap failure or a server that never reaches the ready state. Switching to Java 8 before changing mods prevents a runtime problem from being mistaken for a mod conflict.

Make the server reachable on your network

Players on the same Wi-Fi or wired network

For a household or LAN test, give players the host computer’s local network address. The server must be running, and the host firewall must allow the Java server process to accept connections. A local address is not normally reachable from the public internet.

  1. Start the server and leave it at its ready state.
  2. Find the host computer’s LAN address using the operating system’s network settings.
  3. Give that address to players on the same network, along with the port configured by the server.
  4. Have a second player test the connection before changing router settings.

Friends outside your home network

Technic’s networking guidance says that players outside your Wi-Fi need either router port forwarding or a port-tunneling service. The router rule must direct the server’s configured port to the host computer’s local address. The host firewall must allow the same traffic.

  1. Reserve or otherwise keep the host computer’s local address stable so the router rule does not point to a different device later.
  2. Check the server’s configured port in its properties file rather than assuming a value.
  3. Create a port-forwarding rule from the router’s internet-facing interface to the host’s local address and that port, or configure a tunneling service according to its instructions.
  4. Allow the server process through the operating system firewall.
  5. Restart the server or networking service if the chosen method requires it.
  6. Ask a friend on a different internet connection to test. Testing from inside the same Wi-Fi can give a false impression that public access works.

Do not publish your public address in an open forum. Share it only with the people you trust, keep the server software limited to the required files, and stop the process when nobody is playing.

Have every player match the installation

A player can see the server and still be rejected if the client does not match. Ask each friend to install the same original Crazy Craft 2.2 release and confirm Minecraft 1.6.4 in the launcher before troubleshooting the network.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Pack name and release: Crazy Craft 2.2/2.2.0.
  • Minecraft version: 1.6.4.
  • Forge/modloader: the build supplied or expected by that server pack.
  • Mods: the same set and versions, excluding files documented as client-only on the server.
  • Configuration: the same pack configuration unless a server-specific setting is intentionally different.
  • Java: a runtime compatible with the client launcher; the server itself should use Java 8 for this legacy pack.

When a clean client can join but a modified client cannot, restore the modified installation from the launcher rather than deleting individual files at random. Random substitutions make it harder to identify which version introduced the mismatch.

Self-hosting versus managed hosting

You can run the server on your own computer or use a managed Minecraft Java host. For this unusually old Forge pack, the decisive question is not the provider’s modern-version support but whether it explicitly permits legacy 1.6.4 Forge server packs and Java 8.

Consideration Self-hosted computer Managed service
Setup effort You install Forge, copy the pack, configure Java, firewall and networking. The service may provide a control panel and installation workflow, but you still need to upload or select a compatible server pack.
File and Java control Full control over scripts, Java executable, mods, configs and backups. Depends on the service; verify that Java 8 and custom legacy Forge files are allowed.
Public connectivity You handle port forwarding, firewall rules or a tunnel. The service normally supplies a public endpoint, subject to its network policy.
Cost No hosting fee is established here; you provide the computer, electricity and connection. Pricing varies by service and plan and is not stated for a verified Crazy Craft 2.2-compatible provider.
Backups You are responsible for copying the world and configuration files. Automatic backups may exist, but retention and restore controls must be confirmed.
Support You diagnose Java, Forge, mods and networking yourself. Support quality depends on whether the service officially supports this legacy pack rather than only current Minecraft versions.

If you choose a managed service, ask before paying whether it accepts the exact original 1.6.4 server pack, allows Java 8, permits custom Forge mods and provides access to logs and world backups. A service that supports only current versions is not a suitable host for this guide.

Troubleshoot by symptom

The server stops immediately

  • Confirm that the start script is using Java 8, not the operating system’s newer default.
  • Run the script from a terminal and read the final error instead of relying on a window that closes.
  • Check that the Forge installer was run in server-install mode for Minecraft 1.6.4.
  • Restore the untouched server pack if you recently added or removed mods.
  • Make sure the EULA file says eula=true after you have accepted it.

Forge reports a missing mod or rejects a connection

  • Compare the client and server pack release numbers; both must be Crazy Craft 2.2.0.
  • Compare the Minecraft version; the original release is 1.6.4.
  • Compare Forge and mod files rather than only the visible pack name.
  • Remove client-only mods from the server and their related configuration files.
  • Do not copy a replacement mod from Crazy Craft 3, 4 or an “Updated” pack.

The server starts, but nobody can connect

  • Test first from the same LAN using the host’s local address.
  • Confirm that the server process is still running and has reached its ready state.
  • Allow Java or the server process through the host firewall.
  • For remote friends, verify the router forwarding rule or tunnel points to the correct host address and configured port.
  • Test from a genuinely different internet connection; local testing cannot prove that the public route works.

LAN works but internet access does not

This pattern usually isolates the problem to the router, firewall, changing local address or tunnel rather than to Forge. Recheck the destination address, the configured server port and the firewall rule. If the host’s local address changed after a reboot, update the forwarding rule and test again.

A player joins and is then kicked

Ask that player to reinstall the same launcher pack and remove manual mod changes. A successful handshake followed by a kick commonly indicates that the client’s mod list or configuration differs from the server’s expected set. Compare against a clean installation before changing the server.

Backups, updates and safe recovery

Legacy packs are harder to reconstruct once files disappear, so preserve the exact working state. Stop the server cleanly before copying its world. Keep dated backups of the world directory, mods, config, the launch script and the EULA file. Store at least one backup outside the live server folder.

When testing a change, make one change at a time and keep the previous copy. If the server fails after a change, restore the last known-good folder instead of layering additional fixes on top of an unknown state. Never update the pack merely because a newer Minecraft or Forge version is available; that creates a different compatibility problem.

  • Original VoidWrath Crazy Craft 2.2, version 2.2.0.
  • Minecraft 1.6.4 confirmed on the client and server.
  • Matching legacy Forge installer and server pack.
  • Server folder contains the supplied mods and configs.
  • Client-only mods removed from the server.
  • Java 8 selected explicitly for the server.
  • eula=true set after acceptance.
  • Server reaches a ready state and remains running.
  • Host firewall permits the server.
  • LAN test succeeds before internet testing.
  • Port forwarding or a tunnel configured for remote friends.
  • World and configuration backups created before inviting players.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the official-server button in the launcher to host my own world?

No. VoidLauncher’s official-server button is a join workflow for the listed official server. A private server requires the separate Crazy Craft 2.2 server pack and the Forge setup described above.

Does the “70 mods” listing tell me how much RAM to allocate?

No. It is a mod count published for the pack, not a memory benchmark. No reliable RAM figure is established for every world, operating system and player count, so monitor the server console and system behavior rather than applying an invented number.

Can a current Java release replace Java 8?

Do not assume so for this pack. Technic specifically identifies Java 8 as working for Minecraft versions below 1.17, and Crazy Craft 2.2 targets 1.6.4. Use Java 8 when troubleshooting unless the pack’s own documentation proves another runtime works.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is a port-tunneling service mandatory?

No. It is one alternative to router port forwarding for friends outside your Wi-Fi. Players on the same local network can test with the host’s LAN address, while remote players need either forwarding or a tunnel.

Why should I avoid copying individual mods from another Crazy Craft edition?

Different editions can target different Minecraft and Forge versions and use different mod IDs or configuration formats. Replacing one file can create a missing-mod, class-version or login-mismatch error that a clean, matching server pack avoids.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use the official-server button in the launcher to host my own world?

No. It is a join workflow for the listed official server; private hosting requires the separate Crazy Craft 2.2 server pack and Forge setup.

Does the 70-mod listing determine the server’s RAM requirement?

No. It is a published mod count, not a universal memory benchmark. Monitor the actual server rather than relying on an invented allocation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I replace Java 8 with a current Java release?

Do not assume compatibility. Technic identifies Java 8 as working for Minecraft versions below 1.17, including this 1.6.4 pack.

Is port forwarding mandatory for every player?

No. Same-network players can use the host’s LAN address. Remote players need either router forwarding or a port-tunneling service.

Why not copy one mod from another Crazy Craft edition?

Other editions can use different Minecraft and Forge versions, mod IDs and configuration formats, causing startup or login errors.
