You can keep recorded lessons live on YouTube by sending them through an encoder connected to your school’s YouTube channel. The encoder can run on a school computer or dedicated hardware; a cloud service is another option. Before going public, enable live streaming, check student privacy and content rights, configure the video output, and test the complete stream.
Check the recordings before they go live
A lesson recorded for a classroom is not automatically ready for public streaming. Review the full video, including slides and audio, before adding it to a continuous playlist.
Protect students’ privacy
Look for identifiable students, names, uniforms, school identifiers, attendance details, and other personal data. YouTube’s guidance advises getting parental or guardian permission before featuring a minor, moderating comments, and managing privacy settings. If a student is not needed for the lesson, consider editing or blurring the footage, muting identifying audio, or using a different recording.
The Government of India announced that the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and Rules, 2025 were notified on 13 November 2025. The government release describes appropriate technical and organizational measures and verifiable parental consent before processing a child’s personal data. That information does not, by itself, settle how every school’s specific publication, purpose, or statutory exemption is treated. Ask the school’s responsible administrator or legal adviser to check the current requirements and school policy.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Clear rights to every part of the lesson
Check that the school has the necessary rights to publish the recording and to use each included element: the teacher’s performance, slides, illustrations, textbook extracts, music, clips, and other material. Owning a recording does not necessarily clear third-party content or every person shown in it. YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have the necessary rights for the live content and to follow applicable laws and regulations.
Choose the audience setting for the actual content
When setting up the stream, select either “Made for Kids” or “No, it’s not Made for Kids” based on the content and intended audience; do not assume every school lesson automatically belongs in one category. YouTube says that this designation affects available features. For content marked Made for Kids, live chat and personalized advertising are among the features that are unavailable or restricted.

Enable live streaming and create the YouTube stream
- Check channel eligibility. The channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube says first-time live streaming can take up to 24 hours to become available, so do not leave activation until launch day. Its current guidance sets the minimum streamer age at 16.
- Open YouTube Studio. Select Create → Go Live, then create or schedule the stream. Choose the stream setup intended for an encoder, since the prerecorded video will be sent through one.
- Copy the connection details into the encoder. Use the YouTube Live server URL and stream key shown for the stream. Treat the key like a password: share it only with trusted staff, limit access to the channel and encoder, and do not put it in a public document or screen recording.
- Set the audience designation and stream details. Complete the audience selection and the other stream information in YouTube Studio before launch. Check the watch page and description for school names, dates, or other details that should not be public.
Configure an encoder for recorded lessons
YouTube defines an encoder as software or standalone hardware that converts video into a digital stream. A school can use software on an existing computer or a dedicated hardware encoder; dedicated hardware is optional, not a YouTube requirement. The controls differ by encoder, so use its instructions for selecting a prerecorded source, adding items to a playlist, and setting the video to repeat or follow a schedule.
Build and check the lesson rotation
- Arrange lessons in the order viewers should encounter them. Check titles, transitions, and audio levels across the entire rotation, not only in the first clip.
- Confirm that the encoder is configured to continue through the intended playlist or loop. Do not assume that an encoder will repeat a file or playlist unless its settings explicitly provide that behavior.
- Keep the source files and playlist under control. Assign a staff member to check that the rotation is current and that removed or outdated lessons are no longer included.
Match output to the school’s upload connection
Choose a resolution, frame rate, and bitrate that the school’s upload connection can sustain continuously. YouTube publishes bitrate ranges for common resolutions and frame rates; use the current range for the selected output rather than choosing a high bitrate simply because the source file supports it. YouTube recommends a speed test and 20% upload headroom. Its network guidance says the primary and backup stream bitrates together should fit within available upload capacity while preserving that margin.

YouTube recommends RTMPS for ingestion. Its technical guidance recommends a 2-second keyframe frequency and says it should not exceed 4 seconds. Apply these values in the encoder if those settings are available, and verify that the encoder’s output matches the stream configuration.
Test the stream before announcing it
- Set up early. Allow time to connect the encoder and inspect the stream before the intended public start.
- Start the encoder and inspect Live Control Room preview. Confirm that the expected lesson appears and that both video and audio are present.
- Check real playback. Open the channel’s watch page and test from a mobile device as well as the control computer. Confirm that playback works and that the sound is intelligible.
- Watch stream health. Check the stream-health indicators during the test and observe the connection long enough to catch instability. If the school uses a backup encoder, test the failover before relying on it.
- Decide how to retain a local archive. YouTube suggests maintaining one where appropriate. Follow school policy for storage, access, retention, and deletion of recordings, especially when they contain student information.
Plan who will keep the stream running
A 24/7 feed needs an operating plan, not just a successful first launch. Name a staff owner and document who can access the channel and encoder, who checks the playlist and stream health, and who responds if the stream stops or a lesson needs to be removed. Schedule checks at times the school can actually cover, and define how staff will stop or restart the encoder. This is an operational recommendation, not a YouTube-mandated school policy.

With a local software or hardware encoder, the school’s equipment, power, and internet connection must remain available for the stream to continue. YouTube recommends monitoring the stream and testing the setup; a successful test is not a guarantee of uninterrupted operation.

Running a 24/7 stream does not automatically make a school channel eligible for monetization. YouTube’s monetization guidance says repetitive or mass-produced material may be considered “inauthentic”; its examples include similar videos with low educational value or minimal variation. YouTube also says a channel should not appear template-produced or have videos that lack creative, educational, or other value. Organize lessons meaningfully and retain clear educational value, but do not treat that as a guarantee of monetization eligibility: YouTube assesses channel content under its policies.

Or let it run in the cloud
If you would rather not leave a school computer and connection running, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping prerecorded videos live on YouTube. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud; it does not go live from a camera or stream to other platforms.
- Nothing has to stay on at the school: the computer, OBS, and home or school connection can be off while the cloud service runs.
- Videos stream as uploaded, with no re-encode, up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot.
- StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card, once per account. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide.
Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB of storage per slot pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and support from the StreamNeo team. All plans have the same product; only the billing period changes. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. For five or more slots, contact StreamNeo support.
