What you need before starting
There is no single hardware list for every setup. Your workflow depends on where the recordings came from and what equipment you already have. PC recordings may already be on the computer you will use to encode; console recordings may have been captured through a console’s recording features or a separate capture setup. A capture card, external drive, microphone, or additional computer is conditional—not universally required.

- Fortnite recordings you created, or permission to use recordings made by someone else.
- A livestream encoder that can send a feed to YouTube Live. Check its current support for looping a playlist and reconnecting after a dropped connection.
- A YouTube channel enabled for live streaming, plus its stream key.
- Enough storage for the recordings and a stable internet connection from the computer running the encoder.
The available YouTube guidance documents encoder features such as browser-source overlays, but does not establish one official configuration for unattended 24/7 playlist looping. Treat looping and recovery as encoder-specific capabilities, and test them before leaving a stream unattended.
Prepare recordings and rights
Use footage you can rebroadcast
Start with your own match recordings or obtain permission to use another creator’s footage. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights for live content on Google services, including music licensing: YouTube livestream terms. Check music and other third-party material separately, including in-game or lobby music, overlays, and any soundtrack added during editing.

Epic’s End User License Agreement classifies recordings and livestreams of its games as “External Fan Content,” subject to compliance with Epic’s terms. Review the current Epic Games End User License Agreement and any fan-content policy it references before publishing.
Give the stream a clear editorial purpose
A queue of minimally changed matches is a weaker monetization proposition than a program with a recognizable purpose. Consider commentary tied to the action, such as explaining decisions, strategies, routes, or mistakes; add analysis or other original context that viewers can identify. This can help demonstrate value, but it does not guarantee monetization approval.

Build and start the 24/7 broadcast
- Arrange your program. Put the permitted recordings into a playlist or other sequence supported by your encoder. Decide whether the stream has a theme—such as ranked-match analysis or beginner strategy—and make the title and presentation accurately reflect it.
- Prepare commentary and overlays. Add original recorded narration, live commentary, or analysis where appropriate. Check the rights for every music track, graphic, and other element included. YouTube’s encoder guidance includes features such as browser-source overlays; available options vary by encoder. See YouTube Help: encoder features.
- Connect the encoder to YouTube Live. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and copy its stream key. Enter that key in the encoder’s YouTube or custom-stream destination field, following the encoder’s current instructions. Keep the key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Configure looping and recovery. Enable playlist repeat or looping in the encoder if it supports it. Configure its reconnect behavior, if available, and confirm what it does when a file ends, the encoder restarts, or the connection drops. Exact labels and settings depend on the software; do not assume a generic YouTube connection automatically repeats files or resumes unattended.
- Run a test and monitor it. Start with a short test to confirm that YouTube receives video and audio, the correct recordings play, overlays are readable, and the playlist advances or repeats as intended. Check the live preview and status in YouTube Studio. Review the archive after the test; YouTube says live content may be archived and remains subject to applicable terms.
- Leave it running only after validating the failure cases. Verify what happens if the internet connection drops, the encoder closes, or the playlist ends. A 24/7 plan needs a recovery path for the specific encoder and computer in use; confirm its behavior rather than assuming YouTube will restart a failed feed.
Can a looped Fortnite stream be monetized?
Possibly, but neither using your own footage nor having permission by itself ensures approval. YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to live streams and assess a channel as a whole. They can exclude repetitive, mass-produced, generic, or otherwise inauthentic content, and reused-content eligibility is separate from copyright permission. YouTube explains that reused material needs meaningful differences, substantial original commentary or modification, or educational or entertainment value. For game footage specifically, YouTube says monetization depends on commercial-use rights granted by the game publisher. Its guidance says gameplay may qualify when step-by-step commentary is closely tied to the action and provides instructional or educational value; extended gameplay without appropriate rights or relevant commentary may not be accepted. Before launch, make the stream’s original contribution easy to understand. Explain what viewers will learn or get from the broadcast, and avoid relying on an unchanged rotation of matches as a dependable monetization strategy. YouTube reviews the channel and makes the eligibility decision.

For channels that are eligible and have monetization enabled, YouTube lists ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships as possible live-stream revenue features. An ad slot is not guaranteed to serve. YouTube reported an average “over 20% uplift in instream ad revenue per hour” in a January 2024 comparison across 207 countries, comparing channels with live automatic mid-roll ads enabled against channels without them.
