YouTube supports an ongoing 24/7 broadcast, but that does not guarantee uninterrupted operation or a complete replay. This guide covers setup, settings, rights, continuity, and an option that runs in the cloud instead of on your computer.
Check that your channel can go live
Before preparing the stream, confirm that the YouTube channel is verified and has no live-streaming restriction from the previous 90 days. YouTube says streamers must be at least 16 years old. Its current Help guidance also lists limits of 10 active streams per channel and three per stream key. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance for current eligibility and limits.

Prepare rain audio and visuals you can use
Choose a rain recording and background visual that you created or have permission to use for this stream. Rights should cover both the sound recording and the imagery, including the way you plan to broadcast them. Keep the original files, license terms, and permission records somewhere you can retrieve them if a claim or interruption occurs.
- Do not assume that a label such as “royalty-free” by itself confirms that an asset is cleared for YouTube livestreaming.
- If you license third-party material, check whether the rights owner must add your channel to a Content ID allowlist to prevent live interruptions.
- Consider making your own rain recordings, mixes, and visuals. Original work gives you more control, but does not guarantee monetization approval.
YouTube’s live-stream terms require the content provider to have the rights needed for the live content, including music licensing rights where relevant.

Set up the YouTube broadcast and encoder
YouTube supports streaming with a computer-based encoder, and its API documentation describes an ongoing 24/7 feed as a live-broadcast pattern. In broad terms, create or schedule the YouTube broadcast, obtain its stream key, configure your encoder to send the prepared rain program to that broadcast, then start the encoder and confirm that YouTube receives the feed. YouTube’s interface and encoder controls can change; follow its current encoder setup instructions for the exact broadcast and stream-key steps.
The precise way to loop a video-and-audio program varies by encoder software. Confirm that your chosen encoder can repeat the prepared material continuously before relying on it for an all-day stream. Do not treat a single uploaded file as a loop unless the software is actually configured to replay it.

Configure the stream and test it before launch
Use YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance rather than selecting a bitrate by guesswork. YouTube recommends RTMPS for ordinary low-latency streaming. Its guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 for video; AAC or MP3 for audio; constant bitrate (CBR) encoding; and a keyframe interval of two seconds, not exceeding four seconds. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate table for the codec, resolution, and frame rate you choose.

For stereo audio, YouTube lists 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps. Its guidance lists AAC at 48 kHz and 384 Kbps for 5.1 audio. A simple rain ambience stream usually needs no camera or microphone if the prepared audio and visual program already supplies both parts.

- Choose a resolution and frame rate. Match the rain visual you prepared and consult YouTube’s table for a suitable bitrate. There is no single bitrate appropriate for every resolution, frame rate, codec, and internet connection.
- Set the protocol and encoding. Use RTMPS where supported, select a listed video and audio codec, use CBR, and set keyframes to two seconds without exceeding four seconds.
- Run a short test with the actual program. Check that both picture and sound reach YouTube, that the sound level is comfortable, and that the image is not stalled or unexpectedly cropped.
- Check stream health before leaving it unattended. YouTube’s stream-health indicators can help identify delivery issues. In OBS, increasing dropped frames can point to an unstable connection or a bitrate the upload connection cannot sustain; check both before trying again. See OBS’s connection troubleshooting guidance.
Keep the broadcast running and plan for replays
A computer-based setup requires the encoder computer, network connection, and power to remain available while the broadcast is live. YouTube’s API describes an ongoing 24/7 feed, but it does not promise uninterrupted service: encoder failures, network problems, account restrictions, or platform interruptions can still stop a stream. Monitor stream health and have a way to restart the encoder if needed.
Do not rely on one YouTube replay for an all-day broadcast. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Its guidance says, “We recommend recording a local archive as a backup.” If a replay matters, record locally and consider ending and restarting in sessions shorter than 12 hours. Understand copyright interruptions and monetization
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including another live broadcast. If a match remains after a warning, YouTube can temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream. A saved archive may also receive a Content ID claim after the live broadcast ends. A belief that an asset is licensed does not by itself prevent these outcomes; retain permission records and check any Content ID allowlisting requirements with the rights owner. Troubleshoot common failures

| Dropped frames increase | The upload connection may be unstable or unable to sustain the selected bitrate. | Check the connection and lower the bitrate to a level appropriate for the chosen codec, resolution, and frame rate using YouTube’s current bitrate table. |
