To keep a rain-on-a-tin-roof stream live on YouTube around the clock, prepare original or properly licensed rain audio and video, enable live streaming on an eligible channel, and send the program through an encoder. A local computer running software such as OBS can do this; a cloud playout service is another option. Neither route makes a stream interruption-proof: plan how to monitor and recover from connection, power, encoder, or YouTube interruptions.
Choose the kind of rain stream you want to run
First decide whether viewers should hear actual rain as it happens or a prepared recording. That choice affects the source material, production setup, and continuity.

A field recorder is optional, not a requirement. Clear the audio and image rights before you go live
Use your own rain recording and visuals, or obtain written permission that covers both the live broadcast and any replay. Keep the permission or license on file. A “royalty-free” label alone does not establish that a particular license allows a continuous YouTube broadcast or archived use; read the actual terms.

YouTube Help says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” If YouTube identifies a match, it may replace the live image with a placeholder and warn you to stop using the content. A continuing match can interrupt or terminate the stream. Even licensed material can be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel in the relevant Content ID system, and a claim may be made on an archived stream after it ends. Check your channel before scheduling the launch
YouTube’s current live-streaming guidance requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and says streamers must be at least 16. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so turn on live streaming well before your planned start. Review YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and its encoder setup instructions.

Build the program and connect an encoder
The basic workflow below uses YouTube Studio and an encoder. YouTube lists OBS among its verified encoder options; it also supports hardware encoders. The exact controls for preparing a loop depend on the encoder and how your source material is organized, so test the completed program before relying on it for a continuous schedule.

- Prepare the scene or playlist. Add the rain video and audio as a stable scene or prepare a looping program in your encoder. Check that the sound does not clip, the picture is present, and the transition from the end of a clip back to its start is acceptable.
- Enable and open YouTube Live. In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create a stream for an encoder. If this is your first time going live, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- Copy the connection details. In the stream setup, copy YouTube’s server or stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s stream settings. Keep the key private: someone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Start the encoder and check Studio. Begin sending the program. YouTube creates the watch page after the encoder starts sending content. Check the live preview and stream health before sharing the link widely.
- Run a short test first. A private or unlisted test lets you check picture, audio, looping, and connection behavior without treating the main broadcast as the test. This is a prudent operating step, not a guarantee from YouTube that a later stream will remain uninterrupted.

A hardware encoder is also supported, but requires dedicated equipment. The available guidance does not establish a price or reliability advantage for either class.

Plan the 24/7 operation and the replay separately
“24/7” is the schedule you are aiming to maintain, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service. Decide who will check the YouTube Studio preview and stream health, and who will respond if audio, picture, power, the internet connection, or the encoder fails. Backup power and connectivity depend on your actual location and setup; there is no single India-wide equipment or runtime recommendation established here.
YouTube Help’s current guidance, checked on 2026-10-03, says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a continuous broadcast longer than that will produce a complete replay as one archive. If a replay matters, consider separate shorter sessions or a separate recording workflow, and check YouTube’s current live-stream archiving guidance.

Copyright clearance does not guarantee monetization
Having permission to use the rain audio and visuals is different from meeting YouTube Partner Program requirements. YouTube says live monetization is available to creators in the Partner Program, and channel monetization policies apply across the channel. A minimally changed loop or reused material can create monetization risk even when you have permission to use it. Favor original recordings and meaningful creative contribution, check YouTube’s channel monetization policies, and do not treat permission or a continuous stream as a promise of YPP approval or revenue.
