VLC’s current menu labels and compatibility with a reliable YouTube output route depend on the installed version; verify and test your exact setup before relying on it for a long broadcast.
What you need—and what VLC does
Think of the setup as two linked jobs: VLC plays the local playlist, and an encoder delivers that playback to YouTube. YouTube’s documented encoder workflow uses a stream URL and a private stream key from Live Control Room. Its guidance does not establish that every VLC version can both maintain a playlist and provide a compatible, reliable YouTube output route.

- MP4 cartoons you are authorized to broadcast, arranged in the order you want.

Do not assume that a successful VLC playlist test proves the YouTube output route works. Validate the complete chain—playback, encoding, network delivery, and YouTube preview—before scheduling a long stream.
Prepare and test the VLC playlist
Check the files and their order
- Gather the cartoon MP4 files you have permission to use in a livestream. Include music, dialogue, and any other embedded audio in the rights check.
- Put the files in the intended broadcast order. Use clear filenames or a separate written sequence so you can confirm the playlist order.
- Open the files in the VLC version installed on your computer and build the playlist using that version’s controls. The exact current menu names have not been verified here, so consult the documentation for your installed release rather than relying on guessed instructions.
- Play through the sequence long enough to confirm that each file advances as intended, the audio is present, and there are no unexpected gaps or playback errors.
- If you want the playlist to repeat, enable the appropriate repeat or loop behavior in your version and test that playback returns to the beginning after the final file. Do not assume a repeat setting is enabled by default.
Verify the output path separately
VLC playlist playback and YouTube livestream ingestion are different functions. Confirm that the encoder route you plan to use can receive the VLC playback and send a compatible stream to YouTube. Support and reliability may vary by VLC release and configuration. If that route is unavailable or unreliable, use a separate encoder workflow that accepts the playback source; verify its YouTube compatibility before going live.

Connect an encoder to YouTube
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream. Follow YouTube’s current encoder setup instructions.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream into the encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not share or publish it, and reset it if you think it has been exposed. YouTube explains the encrypted connection option in its RTMPS instructions.
- Choose RTMPS when your encoder supports it, using the RTMPS URL provided by Live Control Room. YouTube describes RTMPS as the encrypted form of RTMP; do not substitute an address from an unrelated service.
- Start the encoder and wait for the stream preview in Live Control Room. Check that both video and audio are arriving correctly before starting the scheduled broadcast. YouTube’s live streaming tips recommend testing and checking the preview.
- Once the preview and stream health look acceptable, start the scheduled stream as directed in Live Control Room. Keep monitoring the encoder, computer, network, audio, video, and stream health while it runs.
Choose video and audio settings that fit
Match the encoder to the source files and the capacity of your upload connection. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate encoding, frame rates up to 60 fps, and a recommended 2-second keyframe interval that should not exceed 4 seconds.

Run an upload speed test and test with cartoons that have similar motion and audio to the material you plan to stream. A brief test using a static image or silence may not reveal problems that occur during normal playback. If the preview or stream health is unstable, reduce the output load or improve the connection, then test again.

Copyright, interruptions, monetization, and archives
Clear the rights for the entire broadcast
Only stream cartoons and soundtracks whose rights cover the use you intend. YouTube says live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content. If a match is identified, YouTube may show a placeholder, warn you to stop the stream, and temporarily interrupt or terminate it if the material remains. A rights holder may need to add a licensed channel to its Content ID allowlist; a licence alone may not prevent an interruption. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams. For monetization, YouTube says creators need the rights required to commercially use visual and audio elements; see what content can be monetized.
Permission does not guarantee monetization
Copyright permission and YouTube Partner Program eligibility are separate questions. YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to live streams and identify highly repetitive or interchangeable channel content as a potential monetization issue. The policy page notes a July 15, 2025 update. Having permission to broadcast cartoons does not by itself establish that a channel will qualify for monetization.

Plan around the archive limit
YouTube’s encoder instructions state that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not establish that one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast will be archived as a single video. Check current Live Control Room behavior and plan for the archive limits relevant to your stream.
Keep a computer-based stream running
A local VLC-and-encoder setup depends on the computer, playback, encoder, and internet connection continuing to work. YouTube recommends continuously monitoring stream audio/video quality and stream health, but its guidance does not promise that a consumer computer or VLC process will stay online without interruption for 24 hours. Keep the machine powered and prevent sleep or shutdown using its operating-system settings, and arrange for someone to check the stream. Test the exact configuration for an extended period before relying on it.

Common problems and what to check
- Playlist stops after the last cartoon: Test the repeat or loop control in your installed VLC version; do not assume looping is active.
- YouTube receives no signal: Check that the encoder is running, the correct stream URL and key are entered, and the selected connection method is supported. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder.
- Preview appears, but video or audio is wrong: Check the encoder’s source, codec, resolution, frame rate, and audio input. Test using the actual playlist files rather than a different sample.
- Stream health is unstable: Compare the encoder’s bitrate with the available upload capacity, test the connection under realistic conditions, and adjust settings before restarting.
- Stream is interrupted over cartoon content: Review YouTube’s copyright notice and confirm that the rights cover the live use and that any required Content ID allowlisting has been handled.
- One 24-hour archive is missing: YouTube’s cited automatic-archive condition is for streams under 12 hours; do not assume a longer uninterrupted broadcast will produce one archived video.
