The encoder can run on a computer you keep on, or a cloud service can play uploaded videos for you. Before going live, verify your channel is eligible and make sure you have rights to every video and audio track in the playlist.
What you need for a continuous prerecorded stream
YouTube receives a live video feed from an encoder; it does not turn a playlist of uploaded videos into a live broadcast by itself. Your encoder or hosted streaming service supplies and loops the video while the broadcast remains live. YouTube describes encoder streaming as a supported way to go live: YouTube Help: Live streaming.
- A verified YouTube channel that meets the platform’s live streaming requirements.
- A recording or playlist you are permitted to stream.
- An encoder workflow: software running on a computer, or a cloud service that sends the feed for you.
- A YouTube live broadcast connected to that feed.
Check that your channel can go live
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must have had no live streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days to use live streaming. Check YouTube Studio for any channel-specific eligibility or restriction notices before preparing the stream. See YouTube’s live streaming requirements for current details.
Choose how the video will keep playing
Run an encoder on your own computer
For a local setup, streaming software or another encoder reads a video file or playlist and sends the live feed to YouTube. The computer, encoder, network connection and source files must remain available for the broadcast to continue. This approach gives you direct control of the equipment and software, but a powered-off computer or interrupted connection stops the feed.

OBS provides an official streaming help portal. Its help page does not establish a specific unattended 24/7 playlist configuration, so check the instructions for the software version and playlist method you choose rather than assuming a particular menu path or loop setting.
Use a cloud service
A cloud streaming service can host uploaded videos and send the feed without relying on your home computer to stay on. Before choosing one, verify its playlist controls, recovery behavior, archive handling, service limits and current price. A provider’s description is not, by itself, an uptime guarantee.

Create the broadcast and connect the feed
- Open YouTube Studio’s live control room. Start the encoder streaming setup and create or select the broadcast. Follow the current prompts in Studio; labels can change.
- Connect the encoder. Copy the stream key from the broadcast setup into your encoder, keeping it private. The stream key tells YouTube where to receive your feed; do not share it publicly or include it in a screenshot.
- Set the encoder to send the prerecorded video or playlist. Confirm that the chosen workflow can repeat the playlist continuously, not simply play it once.
- Start the feed and confirm the preview. Check the live control room for incoming video before starting or sharing the broadcast. Confirm that playback continues past the first video and through the playlist boundary.
- Keep watch on the stream. A 24/7 broadcast depends on a continuing valid feed. Check for interruptions and confirm what happens to the broadcast and its archive if the encoder disconnects.
YouTube’s Live Streaming API models a broadcast and its incoming stream as separate resources, and documents the pattern of continuing to send video during a 24/7 broadcast: YouTube Live Streaming API. Use the current YouTube Studio encoder setup for your channel rather than relying on API details unless you are building an integration.
Check rights for every item in the playlist
Make sure you have permission to stream each video, music track and other third-party element. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match that remains unresolved can interrupt or terminate a stream. YouTube also notes that even when you have a license, a live interruption can occur if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Review YouTube’s guidance on live streams and copyright before launching.

- Check rights for the complete playlist, including background music, artwork and clips within videos.
- Do not assume that a video being publicly available, or a license being in your possession, prevents a Content ID interruption.
- If a rights holder needs to allowlist your channel, resolve that with them before relying on the stream to remain uninterrupted.
Local encoder or cloud: what to compare

YouTube will not let the channel start a live stream
Check that the channel is verified, meets YouTube’s live streaming requirements and has no live streaming restrictions from the prior 90 days. Follow any eligibility notice shown in YouTube Studio.
The live control room does not receive video
Confirm that the encoder is running, the correct stream key is configured, and the computer or hosted service has a working connection. If you replace or reset a key, update the encoder to use the current one.

The stream stops after one video
Your playback workflow may be playing a single file rather than repeating a playlist. Verify the loop or playlist behavior in the encoder or service you selected, then observe a full cycle before leaving the broadcast unattended.
YouTube interrupts the stream for a content match
Identify the matched material and resolve the rights issue. If you are licensed to use it, contact the rights holder about allowlisting your channel through Content ID; a license alone may not prevent an interruption.
The stream drops when the computer or connection fails
In a local setup, restore the encoder and feed, then check the live control room. For a cloud service, consult its documented recovery behavior and verify what happened to the YouTube broadcast and archive. Do not assume that a provider’s general continuity claims guarantee a particular outcome.
The broadcast appears live but playback is not continuous
Check the source files and playlist order, test transitions between files, and verify playback beyond a single loop. Also check YouTube’s incoming preview and monitor the stream after launch.
