To run a 24/7 YouTube jazz café stream, send a continuous audio-and-video program from a streaming encoder to a YouTube Live broadcast. The playlist supplies the music, but it is not the stream: an encoder such as OBS must keep playing the playlist and visual and transmit them to YouTube. You can run that encoder on a computer you manage or use a cloud service; either way, rights clearance, testing, monitoring, and recovery planning are essential.
What you need for a continuous jazz stream
A YouTube Live setup has two distinct parts: a viewer-facing broadcast and an incoming stream feed. YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation explains the distinction and describes a 24/7 feed scenario (Google for Developers: YouTube Live Streaming API). Your encoder sends the audio-video feed; YouTube receives it and presents it through the broadcast.

- A cleared music catalog: recordings and compositions whose rights cover your intended live-stream use and territories.
- A visual program: for example, a licensed still image or a looped visual that you are permitted to use.
- An encoder and playback source: OBS on a computer is one documented route. An FFmpeg workflow on a VPS is another implementation option, though it requires server administration.
- A YouTube channel enabled for live streaming: verify the account and enable Live ahead of launch, then check the current requirements in YouTube Studio.
- A plan for monitoring and recovery: playback, the encoder, your connection or host, and YouTube ingestion must all keep working for the stream to continue.
YouTube documents 24/7 broadcasts, but that does not guarantee uninterrupted uptime. The stream can stop if the encoder process, media source, network, or YouTube ingestion fails.
Clear the music rights before building the playlist
Do not treat a track’s availability online, a “royalty-free” label, or an old composition’s public-domain status as proof that a particular recording is cleared for your stream. Rights depend on the recording, composition, license, territories, and intended use. YouTube’s policy does not determine the rights for your particular catalog.

YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” (YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams.) A match can replace the stream with a placeholder image; if matched material continues, the stream may be interrupted or terminated.
If you have a license, ask the relevant music owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube warns that a licensed stream can still be interrupted when the channel is not allowlisted. Keep written permissions and allowlisting confirmation, and verify the exact catalog and territories with the rights holders before launch.

Live-stream interruption is separate from a Content ID claim on an archived broadcast: YouTube says claims on an archived live stream are made after the stream ends if you choose to archive it. A clean live broadcast therefore does not establish that every track in its archive is free of claims.
Prepare your channel and program
Enable and verify live streaming
Follow YouTube’s current account verification and Live activation requirements in YouTube Studio. Google’s Live Streaming Guide recommends enabling Live in advance and testing the complete setup privately before scheduling a public stream (YouTube: Live Streaming Guide). A setup guide from OBS Project Forums says a newly verified account may have to wait 24 hours; treat that as guide-specific information, not a universal guarantee, and check your account’s status in Studio (OBS Project Forums: How to stream to YouTube with OBS Studio).

Build a playlist and visual scene
Choose audio files you are authorized to stream and arrange them in the order you want. Set up a playback source that advances through the playlist and handles the end of a file or list as intended. Pair it with a visual source, such as a licensed café image or an authorized loop. YouTube’s documentation requires an incoming audio-video feed for this workflow; it does not prescribe a specific playlist application, jazz scene, or image.
Before going live, listen for abrupt starts, gaps, clipping, inconsistent loudness, or silence between tracks. Check that the visual remains present and that playback does not stop when a track ends. These are practical checks for your scene and player, not YouTube-mandated settings.

Set up OBS and send the stream to YouTube
OBS Project documents a YouTube workflow, but labels and screens can change. Use the current OBS and YouTube Studio interfaces if they differ from a guide. The sequence below describes the core setup; confirm that your chosen playlist source can play continuously and that OBS is capturing both sound and video.
Recommended Free Tools
- Prepare the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Open the Live Control Room, create or schedule a live broadcast, and select the encoder option. Follow the current Studio prompts for broadcast details and visibility.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and connect your account or enter the stream key supplied by YouTube. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to send a feed to your channel.
- Add the program sources. In your OBS scene, add the playlist playback source for audio and a permitted image or other visual source. Confirm that the audio meter moves when a track plays and that the preview shows the intended visual.
- Check output and connection settings. Choose video and audio settings that your computer, connection, and YouTube’s current recommendations can sustain. The cited setup material does not establish one bitrate, resolution, or keyframe interval for every channel and encoder configuration; consult the current YouTube guidance and the relevant OBS settings rather than relying on a guessed universal value.
- Start the encoder and verify ingestion. Start streaming from OBS, then check the YouTube Live Control Room for incoming video, audio, and stream health. Starting the encoder sends the feed; complete the Studio steps to start or schedule the viewer-facing broadcast.
- Test privately before public launch. Run the full chain as a private test: playlist, scene, encoder, connection, and YouTube. Check transitions, levels, visual output, stream health, behavior when a source ends, and what happens after an encoder restart.
- Schedule or go live, then keep monitoring. Keep access to OBS and YouTube’s live dashboard. Decide who will respond if playback or transmission stops and how they will restart it.
Choose an ingestion protocol your encoder supports
YouTube documents RTMPS as a secure ingestion route and says it is a good choice for most ordinary user content where low latency is useful (Google for Developers: Delivering Live YouTube Content via RTMPS). For a café-style music stream, choose the protocol your encoder supports and that fits your use; low-latency interaction may matter less than dependable continuous playback.

HLS is another option for compatible encoders, but it uses a playlist and media segments and has higher latency than RTMP. YouTube’s HLS setup instructions specify segment durations of 1–4 seconds and additional playlist and segment requirements (YouTube Help: Set up an HLS stream). Do not choose HLS by default for a basic setup unless your encoder and workflow support its requirements.

| Approach | What it suits | Trade-offs to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| OBS on a local computer | People who want local control and can leave the computer and network available. | Power, internet, playback, and the encoder process depend on the local setup. Someone must respond to failures. OBS Project documents a YouTube setup route; no particular computer or uptime result is established by that guide. |
| FFmpeg automation on a VPS | People comfortable configuring a server and automating playback and restart behavior. | Offers automation flexibility but adds server administration and recurring hosting expense. A RadioTech Studio guide published May 29, 2026 describes an FFmpeg and VPS workflow; it is an implementation example, not a YouTube requirement or independent product evaluation (RadioTech Studio: How to Stream Your Radio 24/7 on YouTube Live with OBS & FFmpeg). |
| StreamNeo cloud service | People who want uploaded videos looped to YouTube without leaving a home computer running. | StreamNeo is #1 for a managed 24/7 YouTube playlist stream: it runs from the cloud, accepts uploaded video at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and offers a first day free. You still need appropriate rights for the music and visuals. |
There is no universally best setup: weigh your comfort with administration, local power and network dependence, hosting expense, and who will handle failures. For a local encoder, select hardware based on the workload and settings you choose; YouTube does not require a particular computer model.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot regardless of quality. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo streams to YouTube only, and plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera. You can review its plans and pricing before deciding.

Monitor the stream and recover from failures
YouTube’s LiveStreams resource exposes stream status and health information, and the Live Control Room can help identify ingestion issues (Google for Developers: LiveStreams). A healthy indicator does not replace checking that your audio and visual program are actually playing as intended.
- Keep the playlist source available: confirm the media path and playback application remain accessible to the encoder.
- Watch for stalled playback: check what your player does when a file ends, a playlist finishes, or an item cannot be read.
- Keep encoder and dashboard access: logs and YouTube’s health information can help distinguish a local playback problem from a feed or ingestion issue.
- Assign recovery responsibility: decide who restarts playback or the encoder and how they will verify that the broadcast has resumed.
Detailed automatic restart behavior depends on your player, encoder, host, and configuration; do not assume that every setup will restart itself after a failure.
Quick Recap
Common problems and fixes
- YouTube shows a placeholder or interrupts the stream: a third-party content match may be involved. Review YouTube’s notice, stop using the matched material, and contact the rights holder. If the stream is licensed, confirm that the channel has been added to the owner’s Content ID allowlist.
- The broadcast is live but has no music: check that the playlist is advancing, the correct audio source is active in OBS, and the OBS audio meter moves. Then inspect the incoming feed in the Live Control Room.
- The picture appears but the audio is silent or inconsistent: check the selected audio source, mute state, levels, and track transitions in the encoder and playback source. Test several playlist items privately.
- The stream stops at the end of a track or playlist: configure the playback source to advance or loop as intended, then test the end-of-file behavior before public launch.
- YouTube is not receiving the encoder feed: confirm the selected service and ingestion details, that the stream key is current and entered correctly, and that OBS has started streaming. Check the Live Control Room’s status and health details.
- A restart does not restore the broadcast: check whether the media player, encoder, and broadcast each require a separate restart or action. Your recovery steps depend on the chosen setup; test them before relying on unattended operation.
- Live activation is unavailable: check account verification and Live eligibility in YouTube Studio. Enable Live in advance rather than waiting until the planned launch.
Before you make the stream public
- Confirm permission for every recording and composition in the playlist, for the territories you intend to reach.
- Get Content ID allowlisting confirmation from relevant owners where applicable.
- Verify the channel and enable Live in advance.
- Test the full chain privately, including track changes, playback after a file ends, audio levels, visual output, encoder restart, and YouTube health.
- Know who will monitor the stream and what they will do if the feed fails.
