Prepare ambience you have rights to use, create the broadcast in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, connect the encoder with the stream settings and key, then verify the feed before leaving it unattended.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. YouTube says the channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the person streaming must be at least 16. Check the current YouTube live-streaming eligibility guidance before setup.
- An original or properly licensed ambience video and audio track. The rights must cover continuous live use on YouTube, not merely a standard upload.
- A way to encode and send the media to YouTube: a non-OBS encoder on a computer that stays powered and online, or a cloud streaming service.
- A stable internet connection for a local encoder, or a provider account and its current service details for a cloud encoder.
YouTube describes encoders as useful for streams with overlays and hardware. It recommends RTMPS, a secure extension of RTMP, for ingest. In the Live Control Room, use the server and stream settings shown for your broadcast; keep the stream key private because anyone with it may be able to send video to your channel. Prepare a sleep ambience scene you can legally stream
Use media cleared for continuous live use
Build the scene from footage, animation, field recordings, music, or sound design you created, or from material whose license explicitly permits continuous livestreaming on YouTube. Retain licenses and permission records. A license for a normal video upload may not automatically cover a continuous live broadcast or every territory in which it is available.
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. It says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A match can result in a placeholder, warning, interruption, or termination. Even if you have permission, a rights holder may need to add your channel to an allowlist. Read YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

Make the loop feel intentional
Choose a visual and soundscape that can repeat without an abrupt flash, silence, or audio spike at the loop point. Check the full transition from the end back to the beginning, and listen for hums, clipping, or distracting volume changes. If the source is a single long recording rather than a seamless loop, make sure your encoder or service handles the end of the file as intended.

Choose where the encoder will run
Local computer with a non-OBS encoder
Install a non-OBS encoder that can play or loop your prepared media and send a live feed to YouTube. The specific interface and controls depend on the encoder, so check its documentation for media looping, reconnect behavior, and RTMPS support. The computer must remain powered, connected to the internet, and able to recover from software or network interruptions. A dedicated mini PC is optional; YouTube does not require one.

A cloud service can play an uploaded recording and deliver it to YouTube without keeping your own computer on. Verify the provider’s current YouTube support, loop behavior, duration limits, restart handling, credential process, support terms, and price. Create the YouTube broadcast and connect the encoder
- Open YouTube Studio and enter the Live Control Room. Create a live stream or schedule one. Confirm the channel meets YouTube’s current live-streaming eligibility rules.
- Open the stream settings for that broadcast. Copy the ingest server and stream key or other connection details YouTube displays. Do not post the key, include it in a public screenshot, or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Configure your non-OBS encoder. Select the prepared ambience media, enable looping if needed, and enter YouTube’s server and stream key in the encoder’s stream destination settings. Choose RTMPS if the encoder offers the secure ingest option YouTube recommends.
- Start the encoder, then confirm the incoming feed. In Live Control Room, wait for YouTube to detect the signal and check the preview, audio, and stream-health indicators. Start or schedule the broadcast according to the controls shown for that stream.
- Test before leaving it overnight. Watch and listen for several minutes, including a loop transition if available. Confirm the stream is actually live on YouTube and that the audio is present at a comfortable, consistent level.
Exact encoder labels vary by software. Do not assume the stream is live just because the encoder says it is sending; verify the received feed in YouTube Studio.
Plan for replays separately from the live broadcast
A 24/7 broadcast is not a reliable way to create a complete YouTube replay. YouTube warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” Its live-stream archive guidance says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived and recommends keeping a local archive backup. If replay retention matters, record a separate copy or consider distinct shorter sessions. Splitting a continuous broadcast is an operational workaround to consider, not a guarantee that every segment will be archived.

Keep the stream running and troubleshoot interruptions
For a local setup, check the computer’s power settings so it will not sleep, and make sure your encoder restarts or reconnects in the way you expect. For either setup, check stream status after launch and periodically thereafter if uninterrupted operation matters. YouTube’s cited guidance does not establish a guaranteed uptime rate for your internet connection, encoder, or any provider.
