The difficult parts are not just keeping the encoder running: you must classify the audience accurately, secure rights for every element, and plan for outages and YouTube’s limits on made-for-kids features.
Before you start: check YouTube eligibility and audience rules
Confirm the channel can livestream
YouTube requires a verified channel with no livestream restriction in the preceding 90 days. Encoder streaming is supported. YouTube also states that a person must be at least 16 to livestream; if the person operating the broadcast is younger, consult YouTube’s age-related requirements rather than assuming they can independently run the stream. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Set the audience honestly
A channel built around stories for children is likely to be made for kids. YouTube identifies stories, characters, activities, songs, and similar subject matter that reflects an intent to target children as relevant factors. The creator is responsible for selecting the correct audience setting, and YouTube may override an incorrect setting. A disclaimer saying the content is not for children does not change its actual intended audience. Content aimed at children can be made for kids even when children are not its only or primary audience. Read YouTube’s guidance on determining whether content is made for kids.
Plan around the practical consequences: made-for-kids content loses features including live chat, comments, the notification bell, personalized advertising, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and memberships on the content. Do not build the format around chat participation or promise these features to viewers.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Clear rights for every part of the program
Before scheduling a story, confirm you have permission for the intended livestream and, if you will keep an archive, for that archive too. Check each component separately:
- The story text, including the particular edition or translation.
- The narration or performance recording.
- Illustrations, title cards, and other visuals.
- Music, sound effects, and any other audio.
- Adaptations, translations, or edits you have made or commissioned.
YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the provider to hold the rights needed for worldwide use on Google services, including necessary music rights. Rights and permitted uses can differ by territory and by whether a recording remains available after the live broadcast. Keep permission records and note their limits. Access to an audiobook, book, or online recording is not evidence that you may rebroadcast it. YouTube’s terms are available at youtube.com/t/terms. This is a practical rights check, not a legal determination about any specific work.

Prepare a repeatable story broadcast
Plan the schedule and fallback
Choose a sequence of stories you are cleared to use, and decide whether the stream will show one static illustration, a title card, or animated scenes. For a reading-focused stream, a simple, still visual can reduce unnecessary motion and encoding work. Organize the media files and rights records so the next person responsible for the channel can identify what is playing and what permissions apply.
Plan who will monitor the stream, how they will respond if it stops, and what viewers will see during a restart. A fallback screen or a clear restart procedure is useful, but neither it nor OBS reconnect settings guarantee uninterrupted service.

Check the YouTube live control workflow
In YouTube Studio, use the live control workflow to prepare a broadcast using an encoder. Create or select the stream there and obtain the stream key through YouTube’s current interface. Treat the key as a password: do not publish it, show it on screen, or share it with people who should not control the stream. Interface labels can change, so follow the current YouTube Studio prompts.
Configure OBS and test before going public
- Run the Auto-Configuration Wizard. In OBS, open Tools → Auto-Configuration Wizard and use it as a starting point; OBS says the wizard takes the computer hardware and network conditions into account.
- Build a scene. In the Scenes panel, add a scene for the broadcast. In Sources, add the visuals you have rights to use, such as a title card or story illustration. Keep the composition readable and avoid unnecessary animation if a still image suits the program.
- Check audio. Confirm the intended microphone or audio source is selected, inspect the audio mixer while speaking or playing a test recording, and listen for clipping, silence, or unintended background sound. Make sure no private or unlicensed audio is included.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. Open Settings → Stream, choose the appropriate service or a custom server as applicable, and enter the stream key from YouTube’s live setup. Do not expose the key in a scene, recording, or public screenshot.
- Review output settings. In Settings → Output and Settings → Video, choose an output resolution, frame rate, and bitrate your actual computer and upload connection can sustain. The OBS overview explains where these settings are, but the available guidance here does not establish a current YouTube-specific bitrate recommendation. Do not assume a setting is safe for your connection without testing it.
- Test privately or with a short test broadcast. Check that the picture, sound, stream status, and selected sources behave as intended before promoting the channel. OBS recommends testing for a few minutes rather than jumping straight into the first public stream. A test recording can help check local audio and visuals; a test stream also checks the connection to YouTube.
- Enable and test recovery behavior. OBS documents automatic reconnect in its advanced settings. Test a brief, controlled interruption and observe how the broadcast recovers. Reconnect can help with a dropped connection, but it cannot solve a power failure, a sustained internet outage, account enforcement, or a YouTube-side interruption.
- Start the public broadcast. When the test is satisfactory, start streaming in OBS and complete the corresponding go-live action in YouTube Studio if prompted. Verify the public player and the audio rather than relying only on OBS’s local preview.
OBS’s setup and testing guidance is in its Quick Start Guide and streaming overview. A 24/7 channel still needs an operational plan: a local computer, power, network access, and the running OBS process must remain available for the stream to continue.

Set expectations for monetization
Do not forecast income from a 24/7 schedule alone. YouTube says ad slots are not guaranteed to serve, and made-for-kids content does not receive personalized ads. Its kids and family quality principles can also affect monetization: low-quality kids content may have limited or no earnings, and channels strongly focused on low-quality made-for-kids content may be suspended from the YouTube Partner Program. Eligibility and feature availability still matter for monetization options. See YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance and kids and family content quality principles.
YouTube reported that creators who chose live automatic mid-roll ads saw, on average, over 20% uplift in instream ad revenue per hour across 207 countries in January 2024. That is a platform-reported comparison, not a forecast for an individual channel; it should not be treated as an expected result for made-for-kids programming or for a channel that may not be eligible for the feature.

Choose how the stream will stay online
With OBS on a local computer, you control the scenes and encoder directly, but the computer and its power and internet connection have to remain available. Reconnect helps with some connection drops; it is not an uptime guarantee. Whatever method you use, keep a person responsible for checking the broadcast and handling interruptions.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is an alternative for keeping a YouTube story stream running without leaving a computer on at home. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud. It does not broadcast a live camera feed.
- Nothing has to stay on at home for the cloud stream to continue.
- Your upload streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot rather than quality-based tiers.
- StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card required.
Monthly access is $9.99 per month. Check StreamNeo for details, then start your free first day.
