You can turn MP4 music files into a continuous YouTube live stream by using an encoder to send audio and video to a YouTube live event. First verify that your channel can stream, confirm you have the necessary rights to every recording, then configure an encoder to play and transmit your files continuously. YouTube’s live-stream tools support encoder-based broadcasts, but the exact MP4 looping steps depend on the encoder you choose.
Before you start: prepare your channel and music
Make sure the channel is eligible
YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-stream restriction during the preceding 90 days. For a first broadcast on a music channel, YouTube for Artists recommends enabling live streaming at least 24 hours before you plan to go live. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements and YouTube for Artists’ live-stream guidance.
Confirm rights for each track and recording
Having an MP4 file—or permission to listen to a song privately—does not by itself establish permission to broadcast it. Check the rights for both the musical work and the particular recording or performance, and confirm that your permission covers live streaming and any replay or archive you intend to make available. For Indian works and performances, the Copyright Act, 1957 addresses communication to the public and performers’ rights, but it does not provide one blanket licence for every track. The relevant permissions depend on the recording, performance, rights holders, territory, and intended use. Consult the Government of India Copyright Act, 1957; this is general information, not legal advice about a specific use.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. Detection can cause the live image to be replaced, the stream to be interrupted, or the broadcast to be terminated. Even if you have a licence, a rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to prevent an interruption. YouTube for Artists advises coordinating with the label or distributor when using protected music. Arrange any required allowlisting before the broadcast; a licence and YouTube’s operational allowlist process are separate matters. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Choose how the MP4 files will reach YouTube
YouTube supports encoder-based live streaming, a common approach for broadcasts such as concerts and conferences. You need an encoder that can play your chosen media as a continuous audio-video feed and send that feed to the YouTube live event. The specific application, controls, and method for repeating a playlist vary; the official YouTube information cited here does not establish a particular application’s menu path or looping feature.
For a cloud option that keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos, StreamNeo is one alternative: it loops files from the cloud, so your computer does not have to stay on. The DIY encoder workflow below is for people who want to run the broadcast themselves.

Check the source file and the encoder’s output
An MP4 source file is not the same thing as a live-ingest protocol. Google’s DASH documentation lists MP4 containing H.264 video and AAC audio as supported media, while the live feed must still meet the protocol’s segmentation and timing requirements. The documentation includes requirements such as closed GOPs and periodic manifest and initialization updates. Follow your encoder’s current YouTube configuration rather than assuming that any MP4 file can be sent directly as a live stream. See Google’s DASH delivery guidance.
YouTube’s HLS ingest is a distinct protocol with different requirements, including muxed M2TS segments and AAC audio. Do not treat an MP4 source file as proof that the live feed is using HLS or that it meets HLS ingest requirements. If you select HLS, check the encoder’s current configuration against Google’s HLS delivery guidance.

Set up and start the continuous broadcast
- Prepare the files. Gather the MP4 tracks or videos you have permission to use. Check that they play correctly and that the audio is present. Verify that your encoder supports their formats or can handle them as required for its YouTube output.
- Create a YouTube live event. In YouTube Studio, set up the live stream and choose the encoder-based workflow. Use YouTube’s current live control room instructions for the event setup and stream key; menu labels can change. Treat the stream key as a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Configure the encoder. Select the live event’s ingest destination and stream key as directed by YouTube, then choose the encoder’s continuous-play or playlist workflow for your MP4s. Configure its output for YouTube’s current recommendations and the chosen ingest protocol. The sources cited here do not establish a universal bitrate, resolution, keyframe interval, computer specification, or application setting for every encoder and connection, so do not copy an unverified preset.
- Check the preview before going live. Confirm that YouTube receives both picture and sound, the intended playlist is playing, and the event is connected to the correct channel. If the source is licensed, ensure any required Content ID allowlisting has been handled before starting.
- Start the event and monitor it. Start the encoder’s feed, then use YouTube Studio to confirm the event is live. Keep an eye on the feed and encoder, especially when first testing a playlist or a new configuration.
Plan for replays and long-running streams
A continuous live broadcast is not a dependable way to create one complete YouTube replay of a full day’s programming. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived and warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” If a complete replay matters, keep a separate local recording and verify it is being saved; do not rely on the YouTube archive for a stream that runs beyond 12 hours. Details are in YouTube’s archive live streams guidance.
Common problems and what to check
- You cannot start the stream: Check that channel verification is complete and that the channel has not had a live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. If this is the first music-channel broadcast, allow the recommended advance time for enabling live streams.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: Confirm that the encoder is using the current event’s ingest destination and stream key, and that the key has not been mistyped or replaced. Do not expose the key publicly.
- The feed connects but the video or audio fails: Check whether the encoder can handle the source formats and whether its output matches the selected YouTube ingest protocol. MP4 with H.264/AAC appears in Google’s DASH guidance; HLS has separate M2TS and AAC requirements. Review the encoder’s current YouTube settings and the relevant protocol documentation.
- The broadcast is interrupted after music is detected: Stop and resolve the rights issue rather than repeatedly restarting. Verify permissions for the track and recording, and ask the relevant rights holder, label, or distributor to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist if required.
- The replay is incomplete or missing: If the stream ran longer than 12 hours, YouTube warns it may not have been captured at all. Use a separate recording when a complete replay is important.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the files from the cloud, so nothing needs to stay on at home. It streams the uploaded files as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it does not re-encode or use quality tiers. If YouTube drops the stream, StreamNeo automatically recovers. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. For Indian users, UPI and cards are available; card checkout is available worldwide. See StreamNeo or plan details, then start your free day.
