Before each ride, check that your scooter’s brakes and tires look sound, then test the brakes at low speed in a safe place. Check pneumatic tire pressure against the value for your exact model—not a generic scooter recommendation—and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for charging and storage. Those specifications and service procedures vary by scooter.
What to check before each ride
Look over the scooter for visible damage, including around the brakes, wheels, tires, and other key components. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recommends inspecting a scooter before riding and following the manufacturer’s directions. If you find damage or a component does not work as expected, do not ride until you have followed the maker’s guidance or arranged service.

- Check that the brake controls engage and that nothing looks damaged or loose.
- Look for tire damage, embedded objects, and unusual wear.
- Confirm that the scooter’s other key components appear intact and function normally.
How to check and maintain the brakes
Test the brakes cautiously in a clear, safe area before riding in traffic or at speed. Notice whether the controls engage and the scooter slows and stops in a controlled way. CPSC cautions that stopping distance varies significantly from scooter to scooter, so there is no single stopping-distance target that applies to every model.
If braking distance becomes noticeably longer, or an adjustment does not resolve a problem, stop riding and consult the exact model’s service instructions or an authorized repair center. Navee notes that longer braking distance can involve internal wear or damage to a drum or disc brake. Do not guess at repairs or apply lubricant to brake surfaces; the available manufacturer guidance does not establish a universal adjustment procedure or service interval.

How to check tire pressure and condition
Use the pressure specified for your scooter
For pneumatic tires, use a pressure gauge and compare the reading with the tire marking or your scooter’s exact model manual. A digital tire pressure gauge can help you check the reading, but it does not tell you what pressure to use; that value must come from your scooter’s own instructions.
Manufacturer recommendations differ. Navee’s undated S65 maintenance guidance gives a standard range of 42–48 PSI (290–330 kPa) for that model. Pure Electric’s 2026 scooter-care guidance specifies 36 PSI / 2.5 bar for its scooter. These are product-specific figures, not interchangeable or universal settings.

How often should you check electric scooter tires?
Use the schedule in your model’s manual. Navee recommends checking S65 tire pressure monthly, when low pressure is suspected, and before riding if the scooter has been parked for more than 30 days. This is Navee’s guidance for that model, not a universal schedule. Check sooner if a tire appears low or the scooter’s instructions call for it.

Inspect tires for cracks, bulges, embedded objects, and tread wear. Replace a tire if it is worn or damaged according to the manufacturer’s criteria, and confirm exact model compatibility rather than choosing a replacement based on appearance alone. Navee’s S65 guidance, for example, includes a tread-depth replacement threshold of 0.8 mm; use that threshold only for the model and guidance it applies to.

How to charge the battery safely
Follow the scooter maker’s charging instructions and use only the charger supplied with the scooter or specifically recommended for it. Stay present while charging, unplug when charging is complete, and do not charge while asleep. The CPSC’s September 4, 2025 announcement, “Micromobility Battery Charging Safety,” states: “Always be present when charging micromobility products, never while sleeping, and only use the supplied charger.”
If a battery needs replacing, use only a replacement pack the scooter maker has tested and approved for, and confirmed suitable for, that device. CPSC advises against modified battery packs and repurposed or used cells.

How to store the scooter and battery
For long-term storage, follow the instructions for your exact scooter. Manufacturers give different recommendations for battery charge and upkeep. Navee’s V25i Pro guidance says to store the scooter in a dry, well-ventilated area, recharge the battery every 60 days during long-term storage, avoid charging for longer than 12 hours, and disconnect promptly when fully charged. These directions apply to that model and should not be treated as general rules.
Pure’s scooter-care guidance recommends storing its product at around 50–70% charge and topping it up every few weeks. That is a different, model-specific approach. Check your manual for the appropriate storage charge, location, and recharge schedule rather than combining instructions from different brands.

When to stop and arrange service
Do not continue riding if a brake will not engage or stop the scooter in a controlled way, or if a tire is visibly damaged. Consult the manufacturer’s service instructions or an authorized repair center when the cause is unclear, a problem persists after an allowed adjustment, or the work involves internal brake components. For replacement tires, brake parts, or battery packs, verify the exact model compatibility and use components approved by the scooter maker.
