For one MP4, add an OBS Media Source, select the file, and enable Loop. For several files, use a VLC Video source, arrange the playlist, and enable Loop Playlist. Then connect OBS to YouTube Live, check the Live Control Room preview, and test the complete scene before broadcasting.
The looping steps are the same for regional-language and other MP4 files. The important checks are whether you need one file or a playlist, whether the file plays correctly in OBS, and whether its audio and video are cleared for public streaming.

Choose the right OBS source
| What you want to play | OBS source | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| One MP4, repeated | Media Source | Select the local file and enable Loop. VLC is not required for this source. |
| Several MP4s in a set order | VLC Video | Add the files to its playlist and enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed, and 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. |
OBS documents MP4 among its supported video types, but that does not guarantee every codec, profile, or damaged file will play. Test the exact files in OBS before relying on them for a live broadcast. [OBS: Media Sources]
Loop one MP4 with Media Source
- Open OBS and select the scene where the video should appear.
- In the Sources dock, select + and choose Media Source. Create a new source or select an existing one.
- In the source properties, select the local MP4 file.
- Enable Loop, then select OK.
- Start playback in the OBS preview and let the file reach its end. Confirm it restarts and that the picture and sound are correct.
Keep the source available in the scene while the video is meant to play. If the source is hidden or the scene changes, check the scene and source visibility behavior before the broadcast.

Loop several MP4 files with VLC Video
- Install VLC before adding the playlist source. Match the installation architecture to OBS: 64-bit OBS needs 64-bit VLC.
- In the OBS Sources dock, select + and choose VLC Video.
- Open the source properties and add the MP4 files to the playlist in the order you want them played.
- Leave Loop Playlist enabled. OBS documents this option as on by default; verify its state in the source properties.
- Preview the playlist, including the transition from the last file back to the first. Check the source’s visibility and scene behavior if you switch scenes or hide it.
Use Media Source when one file is enough; use VLC Video when you need a playlist. OBS’s documented source controls do not describe a separate regional-language looping mode. [OBS: Media Sources]
Check regional-language audio, subtitles, and labels
- Audio track: Confirm that the intended language track is playing in the OBS preview. If the file offers multiple tracks and OBS does not play the one you expect, test the file and source settings before going live.
- Mixer levels: Watch the OBS Audio Mixer meters while the video plays. If the stream should be silent, check the source audio and mixer before broadcasting. OBS’s quick start guidance recommends checking the mixer and selecting audio devices as needed. [OBS: Quick Start Guide]
- Subtitles and on-screen labels: Add them as separate scene sources if needed. Check that the chosen font renders the language’s script correctly and that text is readable in the preview; rendering depends on the font and file.
- Rights: Make sure you are authorized to stream both the video and its audio publicly. A file being available in a language or format does not establish permission to rebroadcast it.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open Go Live to reach the Live Control Room, then create or select the stream.
- In the stream settings, obtain the stream URL and stream key, then enter them in OBS’s stream settings for the YouTube destination. Follow the current YouTube and OBS labels shown in your versions.
- Keep the stream key private. YouTube says, “Stream keys are like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Do not put it in a visible scene, share it, or show it in a recording. [YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings]
- Start the stream from OBS and wait for the Live Control Room preview. Check that the correct scene, picture, audio, and stream status appear before making the broadcast public.
YouTube’s current guidance says a channel must be verified and have no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days to use live streaming. Confirm eligibility in the channel before scheduling a broadcast. [YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming]

Set a safe test and check upload bandwidth
Where practical, test with a brief private or unlisted stream. Let OBS send for a few minutes, inspect the Live Control Room preview, and confirm that viewers can access the stream as intended. OBS recommends testing settings for a few minutes; YouTube advises checking preview and stream integrity. [OBS: Quick Start Guide] [YouTube Help: Encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions]

Troubleshoot common playback and streaming problems
| Symptom | Likely check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The video does not restart | Loop setting or source type | For one file, confirm Loop is enabled on Media Source. For a playlist, confirm Loop Playlist is enabled on VLC Video. |
| VLC Video is missing or does not work | VLC installation or architecture mismatch | Install VLC and ensure its architecture matches OBS; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. |
| A file will not play or behaves unexpectedly | File compatibility or damage | Play the exact file in OBS before the event. MP4 support does not mean every codec/profile or damaged file is supported. |
| The wrong language track plays, or there is no sound | Source audio, track selection, or mixer | Preview the file in OBS, inspect available source audio settings, and watch the Audio Mixer meters. Check whether the source or mixer is muted. |
| The stream does not appear in YouTube | Eligibility, stream details, or key | Check the Live Control Room, verify the channel meets YouTube’s eligibility requirements, and confirm the correct stream URL and private stream key are entered in OBS. |
| Preview stutters or the stream drops | Upload capacity or connection stability | Compare the connection’s upload capacity with total stream bitrate and retain YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Test before the public broadcast and review stream integrity in the Live Control Room. |
| Text or subtitles are hard to read | Font rendering or scene layout | Preview the language script using the chosen font, then adjust the text source and layout before broadcasting. |
