To loop a recorded trade show booth demo on YouTube Live, play the video through an encoder such as OBS Studio, enable its loop control, and send the encoder feed to a YouTube Live event using the event’s stream URL and key. Use OBS’s Media Source for one clip or its VLC Video source for a playlist. Check the preview and audio before selecting Go live in YouTube Studio.
Before you set up the loop
YouTube Live needs a live encoder feed; simply uploading a demo video to YouTube does not make it a live broadcast. OBS Studio can play a local recording and encode it for YouTube, so this workflow does not inherently require dedicated streaming hardware. Make sure your channel is verified and has had no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. YouTube says enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours, so check access well ahead of the event. YouTube’s live-streaming tips

- The demo video file must be available on the computer running OBS.
- Use a reliable upload connection capable of sustaining the stream at your chosen settings.

Choose between one clip and a playlist
Loop a single demo with Media Source
For one recording, add it as an OBS Media Source and turn on Loop. When playback reaches the end, OBS starts the file again. Consult OBS’s Media Sources documentation for platform-specific details for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
Cycle through several clips with VLC Video
For a sequence of demos, add an OBS VLC Video source, create a playlist, and enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed for the source to appear; if you use 64-bit OBS, OBS’s documentation specifies 64-bit VLC. This repeats the playlist rather than only one file. OBS Media Sources

Whether you use one clip or several, consider how the final frame leads back to the opening. A hard cut may be distracting if the demo is intended to run continuously; an edit that makes the transition feel deliberate is a production choice, not an OBS guarantee.
Connect OBS to a YouTube Live event
- Create or schedule an encoder stream. In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create or schedule a stream for encoder software. YouTube’s encoder guide explains the workflow.
- Copy the connection details. In Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key shown in the stream settings. Treat the key as a credential: anyone who has it may be able to send video to your event, so do not publish or share it casually.
- Enter them in OBS. Open OBS stream settings and provide the URL and key. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the encrypted form of RTMP; use the RTMPS URL exposed in Live Control Room when available. See YouTube’s RTMPS guide.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Start streaming in OBS. In Live Control Room, wait for the preview and confirm the image, movement, and sound are correct.
- Start the YouTube broadcast. Once the preview looks right, select Go live in Live Control Room. Starting OBS sends the encoder feed; the YouTube event’s Go live control starts the public broadcast.
Set video and audio encoding for the recording
Choose output settings that suit the source video and the sustained upload capacity of the connection. YouTube’s documented RTMP/RTMPS settings list H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate encoding; frame rates up to 60 fps; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Recommended bitrates vary by resolution, frame rate, and codec, so use YouTube’s encoder settings for the current bitrate guidance rather than applying one rate to every file and connection.

- Keep the output resolution and frame rate appropriate to the recording instead of increasing them without a reason.
- Use constant bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval as YouTube recommends; do not set the interval above four seconds.
- Test audio as well as video. A still-looking booth shot can conceal a muted, clipped, or prematurely ending soundtrack.
Schedule, test, and monitor the broadcast
Scheduling gives you an event to promote before it begins. YouTube recommends configuring the encoder at least two hours before a planned event and starting it at least 15 minutes ahead of the scheduled time. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Live settings also include DVR, which can let viewers pause and rewind during the broadcast, and latency choices that trade delay against playback buffering. Plan for failures and rights checks
A loop does not eliminate the need to monitor an unattended booth stream. Test playback for the duration you expect to run, watch for the file or its audio ending unexpectedly, and make sure someone can respond if OBS or the network stops sending video. Before broadcasting, clear the rights for the entire recording and its component material. A demo may contain licensed background music, third-party product imagery, customer information, or people who have not agreed to be shown. The cited YouTube settings guidance is not a complete rights determination; resolve permissions for your particular use rather than assuming that a video made for a booth is automatically cleared for a public live stream.

Troubleshoot common problems
