You can run a Hindi music livestream from an India-based VPS by looping media with FFmpeg and sending the feed to YouTube’s live ingest. A service manager such as systemd can restart the process after some failures, but this setup does not guarantee uninterrupted uptime—and it does not give you permission to stream the songs. Secure the rights for every recording and composition before going live.
What you need before setting up the stream
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. Check the channel’s current eligibility and live-stream setup in YouTube Studio; requirements can vary by account.
- An Ubuntu VPS or another server environment that can store or access your media and sustain the stream’s outbound connection. The example below is an architecture, not a tested provider recommendation or capacity estimate.
- Hindi music files you have permission to stream, plus any licenses and platform permissions required for the specific recordings, compositions and territories.
- FFmpeg, a YouTube live ingest endpoint and a stream key. Treat the key like a password.
YouTube does not require the server to be in India. An India-based VPS may suit your own operational needs, but its location alone does not guarantee audience reach or better uptime.
Choose a single loop or a playlist
| Approach | When it fits | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| One loopable media file | You want the simplest rotation, such as a continuous program assembled in advance. | Less control over changing song order without rebuilding or replacing the file. |
| Playlist or rotation | You want more control over which songs play and in what order. | Requires managing multiple files and the playlist or rotation logic. |
No comparative reliability or performance measurements are established for these approaches. Pick based on how often you expect to change the program and how much control you need.
Set up a looping YouTube stream with FFmpeg
- Enable live streaming and create a broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open the live-streaming workflow, configure a broadcast and retrieve its ingest endpoint and stream key. The exact labels and account eligibility can change, so follow the current Studio interface.
- Prepare the media. Use only files you are authorized to stream. You can use a single file with FFmpeg’s
-stream_loop -1option, or arrange a playlist if you need more control over rotation. Normalize formats if necessary for your chosen FFmpeg workflow. - Send the feed to YouTube. Run FFmpeg on the VPS to read and loop the media, encode or mux a YouTube-compatible stream, and send it to the ingest endpoint. A public implementation example uses RTMP and
-stream_loop -1: 24/7 YouTube radio example. It is a third-party implementation example, not an official YouTube requirement, and its commands have not been independently tested here. - Run FFmpeg as a managed service. Configure an operating-system service manager such as systemd to start the process at boot and restart it after a failure. Keep logs available so you can diagnose restarts and connection errors.
- Check the live output. Confirm the stream is active and playing as expected in YouTube Studio. A running FFmpeg process does not prove that viewers can see the intended output.
- Protect the stream key. Do not commit it to a public repository or expose it in shared logs. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the VPS service with the new key.
Understand music rights and YouTube’s live checks
The technical ability to stream a song is separate from the right to do so. YouTube’s livestream terms say streamers must have the necessary rights for live content worldwide, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. The rights needed depend on the particular composition, recording, territories and use; no general setup clears a specific Hindi playlist. Read YouTube’s livestream terms and obtain advice for your licensing circumstances.

India’s Copyright Act defines “musical work” and “communication to the public”; the latter concerns making a work available by diffusion, whether or not a member of the public actually enjoys it. These statutory definitions are relevant context, not a ruling that a particular stream is lawful or fully licensed. See the Copyright Act definitions and check the law applicable to your circumstances.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can lead to a placeholder or warning, and continued detection can interrupt or terminate the stream. Even if you have a license, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to avoid a live interruption. Review YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance and resolve permissions with the relevant rights owners before broadcasting.

Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive a stream | Incorrect ingest endpoint or stream key, or an FFmpeg connection failure. | Verify the current endpoint and key in YouTube Studio, inspect the service logs, and replace the key if it may have been exposed. |
| The stream stops after a VPS or process interruption | The FFmpeg process ended or the server restarted without a working service configuration. | Check systemd status and logs, confirm the service starts at boot, and review its restart behavior. Restarts help with some failures but do not guarantee continuous uptime. |
| The stream is replaced, warned, interrupted or terminated | YouTube detected third-party content or a rights owner has not allowlisted the channel. | Check YouTube’s live copyright guidance, confirm rights for the exact material and territories, and contact the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting where applicable. |
| The program repeats the wrong material or order | The media loop or playlist is configured differently from the intended rotation. | Check the source file or playlist sequence and verify the output in YouTube Studio before leaving it unattended. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want to maintain an FFmpeg process on a VPS, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The service loops the upload from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it also attempts automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. It is for uploaded videos, not camera-based broadcasting, and streams to YouTube only. For Indian creators, UPI is available.

For a cloud-upload workflow, estimate transfer time with StreamNeo’s upload-time calculator. If you are weighing a VPS against keeping a computer running locally, use the cloud vs PC cost calculator. Neither tool clears music rights; review the copyright safety checklist and confirm permissions for every track separately.
