To loop several bird-call recordings in OBS, add them to a VLC Video source and leave Loop Playlist enabled. Keep Shuffle Playlist off for the listed order, or turn it on for randomized playback. VLC must be installed, and its architecture must match OBS: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. For a single recording, use a Media Source and enable its individual Loop setting instead.
Choose the right OBS source

Set up a looping bird-call playlist
- Install OBS and VLC. Match their architectures. If your OBS installation is 64-bit, install 64-bit VLC so the VLC Video source is available.
- Open the scene you plan to stream. In OBS, find the Sources dock, click its plus button, and choose VLC Video.
- Add the recordings. Add the local bird-call audio files to the source playlist. Check that the files and their order are the ones you intend to broadcast.
- Set the playback order. Leave Loop Playlist enabled to repeat the playlist. Leave Shuffle Playlist off for the listed sequence; enable it if you want playback randomized.
- Check visibility and audio. Make sure the source is active in the scene and that its audio registers in OBS. VLC Video has a visibility behavior setting; by default it stops when not visible and restarts when visible. Adjust that setting if scene changes should not interrupt playback, then verify the behavior in a test. OBS documents the source controls, but your files, mixer routing, and audible level still need to be checked in your setup.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Create or select a stream in YouTube Studio. Open Live Control Room and obtain the stream URL and stream key for the stream.
- Enter the encoder details in OBS. Open OBS streaming settings and provide the YouTube stream URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: YouTube uses it to accept the encoder’s feed.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. For a scheduled stream, start streaming from OBS, wait for the preview in Live Control Room, and listen for the bird calls before clicking Go live. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement representative of the actual stream and monitoring stream health during the event.
- Confirm rights for the broadcast and replay. Use recordings you have permission to transmit, including in any archived replay. YouTube’s setup and stream-settings guidance calls out audio and video rights as something to check: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder and Manage live stream settings.
Troubleshoot common problems
VLC Video does not appear in the Sources menu
Install VLC and check that it matches OBS’s architecture. In particular, 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Restarting OBS after installation can help it detect the dependency.

Only one bird-call file repeats
That is the single-file behavior of Media Source. Use VLC Video and add all the recordings to its playlist when you want multiple files to play in sequence or shuffle.

The files play in an unexpected order
Check whether Shuffle Playlist is enabled and inspect the playlist contents and order. Turn shuffle off for the sequence as listed.
The YouTube preview is silent
Check that the VLC Video source is active and playing, then inspect its OBS mixer level and routing. Confirm the sound in YouTube’s preview before making the broadcast public; the appropriate mixer fix depends on your operating system, OBS version, and routing.

Playback stops or restarts after changing scenes
Review VLC Video’s visibility behavior. Its default is to stop when hidden and restart when visible; choose the behavior that suits your scenes and test it before the live broadcast.
