How to Loop a Playlist in 4K 60fps on YouTube Live

You can’t make a YouTube viewing playlist repeat as a live broadcast just by turning on its loop control. To stream prerecorded videos continuously, arrange their playback in a looping source playlist, then send that output to YouTube through an encoder—or use a cloud service that does the playback and streaming. For 4K at 60 fps, YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends 35 Mbps for H.264, a 2-second keyframe interval, and normal latency.

What “loop a playlist on YouTube Live” means

There are two different playlists involved in this request:

  • A YouTube viewing playlist: YouTube’s playlist repeat control repeats playback for a viewer. It does not turn the playlist into a live broadcast. YouTube’s playlist guidance describes viewer-side playback, while its encoder setup guidance treats a live stream as a feed sent by an encoder.
  • A source-media playlist: A playback system plays your prerecorded files in order and repeats them. An encoder sends that continuous output to YouTube as a live signal.

The workflow therefore has two jobs: keep the source videos playing in the intended order, and deliver their output to YouTube Live. YouTube’s documentation explains how an encoder sends a feed, but does not establish a native playlist-to-live feature or verify a particular app’s current looping controls. Check the chosen playback software’s documentation for its loop setting before relying on it for an unattended stream.

Choose a way to keep the playlist playing

Run playback and encoding yourself

A local computer or hardware setup can play the files and encode the live feed. You control the playback arrangement and encoder settings, but the playback and encoding system must remain running, and the connection must sustain the selected bitrate. Choose software that explicitly supports looping a media playlist; do not assume a YouTube playlist repeat button controls the encoder’s source.

  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Use a cloud streaming service

A cloud service can play uploaded videos and send the live feed without keeping a computer at home running. StreamNeo is #1 for this use case: it keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos in the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers the first day free.

Use an encoder device only for the encoding leg

YouTube lists the Blackmagic Web Presenter 4K as verified hardware capable of streaming up to 2160p60. That supports the encoder part of the workflow; it does not establish that the device plays or repeats a source-media playlist. You still need a playback source that can loop the prerecorded files.

Set up a local 4K60 stream

  1. Confirm the channel can go live. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. Check the channel’s live-streaming access before preparing a long broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
  2. Prepare the source playlist. Put the prerecorded files in the desired order in a playback system whose current documentation confirms repeat or loop behavior. Test the transition from the final item back to the first; the YouTube playlist interface is not a substitute for this source-side loop.
  3. Create the YouTube live stream and retrieve its connection details. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or schedule the stream and use the stream URL and stream key provided for encoder delivery. YouTube’s encoder instructions describe entering those details in the encoder. Treat the stream key like a password: do not show it in screenshots or share it publicly.
  4. Configure the encoder for 2160p at 60 fps. YouTube’s encoder settings list 4K as 2160p60. For H.264, YouTube recommends 35 Mbps. For AV1 and H.265, its listed bitrate range is 10–40 Mbps. Select a bitrate your upload connection can sustain steadily; YouTube recommends checking upload speed but does not specify a universal overhead margin. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings for the current recommendations.
  5. Set keyframes and latency appropriately. YouTube recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds. Its low-latency option is not available for 4K, so a 4K stream uses normal latency. Do not select a low-latency mode expecting it to apply to 2160p.
  6. Send a preview before going live. Start the encoder feed and inspect the Live Control Room preview before starting the public broadcast. YouTube recommends setting up ahead of time and checking the preview, audio, and video quality. Confirm that the feed is actually 2160p60, audio is present, and the playlist advances and repeats as intended.
  7. Monitor the stream. Watch for dropped frames, interruptions, audio problems, or a playlist that stops at the end. YouTube’s encoder workflow relies on the encoder to produce and send the live feed; the playlist’s successful first playback does not prove its repeat behavior will continue unattended.

When HLS matters—and when it does not

Most readers using a standard encoder can follow the RTMP/RTMPS setup described in YouTube’s general encoder guidance. HLS is a separate ingestion option, useful only when the selected encoder or workflow calls for it. Its transport playlist is not the source-video playlist and does not, by itself, repeat your prerecorded content.

For HLS ingestion, YouTube specifies 1–4 second transport segments, TS format, HTTPS POST/PUT, no byte ranges, and a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments. Check YouTube’s live encoder guidance for the applicable HLS details and supported settings before configuring an HLS encoder.

Plan recording and archive handling

YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. It also automatically archives streams at 1440p and 2160p, and recommends keeping a local archive backup. A playlist intended to run continuously beyond 12 hours therefore needs a separate recording plan; do not rely on YouTube to preserve the entire broadcast. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

Copyright and monetization checks

Looping prerecorded content does not change the rights requirements for what you broadcast. Use videos and audio you own or are authorized to stream, and check the relevant licenses for the intended use. YouTube’s reused-content and monetization assessments are separate from whether a stream technically works; a successful live feed does not guarantee monetization eligibility. Review YouTube’s current policies in Studio and avoid assuming that repeatedly broadcasting another creator’s material is permitted.

Troubleshooting a 4K60 playlist stream

Symptom Likely cause What to check
The YouTube playlist repeats for viewers, but there is no live broadcast The viewer-side repeat control does not send an encoder feed. Set up a source playback system and encoder, or use a cloud streaming service that sends the feed to YouTube.
The encoder connects, but the playlist stops after one pass The playback source is not configured to repeat, or its loop behavior differs from what you expected. Verify the selected playback app’s current loop setting and test the end-to-start transition before going live.
The stream buffers or drops frames The upload connection may not sustain the chosen encoder bitrate. Check upload speed and connection stability, then lower the bitrate or resolution if needed. For H.264 2160p60, YouTube’s recommendation is 35 Mbps; do not choose that rate unless the connection can sustain it.
The stream is not 4K60 The source, encoder output, stream configuration, or YouTube ingest may not be set to 2160p60. Check the encoder’s output resolution and frame rate, then confirm the Live Control Room preview and YouTube’s current encoder settings.
Low latency is unavailable YouTube does not offer the low-latency option for 4K. Use normal latency for 2160p, or choose a lower resolution if low latency is more important than 4K.
The archive is missing or incomplete after a long stream A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Plan a separate recording/archive workflow and keep a local backup rather than relying on YouTube’s automatic archive.
The encoder will not connect The stream URL or key may be incorrect, or the stream may not be configured for the intended encoder workflow. Copy the current connection details from YouTube Studio into the encoder and keep the stream key private.
