How to Loop 4K 60fps Videos on YouTube Live with OBS in India

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To loop a 4K 60fps video on YouTube Live using OBS, add the video as a Media Source, enable Loop, set OBS to 3840 × 2160 at 60 fps, and connect OBS to your YouTube broadcast with its stream URL and key. For 4K/60, YouTube recommends 35 Mbps for AV1 or H.265, or 50 Mbps for H.264; use a bitrate your actual upload connection can sustain reliably.

Before you start

  • A verified YouTube channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days is required. YouTube’s general guidance says streamers must be at least 16. Check YouTube live-stream eligibility.
  • Install OBS Studio and have the video file available on the computer that will stream it.
  • Measure sustained upload speed on the connection and at the location you will use. Advertised download speed, or being in India, does not establish that your connection can sustain a particular live bitrate.
  • For 4K/60, YouTube’s published minimum is 10 Mbps for AV1 or H.265 and 14 Mbps for H.264. Its recommended values are 35 Mbps and 50 Mbps, respectively. These are encoder-to-YouTube ingest settings, not guaranteed requirements for every connection. See YouTube’s encoder settings.

Set up the YouTube broadcast and connect OBS

  1. Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create a broadcast or select the intended one.
  2. In the broadcast’s stream settings, copy the stream URL and stream key supplied by YouTube. YouTube’s live stream settings guide explains these controls. Treat the key like a password: do not show it on screen, share it, or include it in a public recording.
  3. In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Choose YouTube as the service and enter the stream key, or use the custom server option if you need to enter YouTube’s stream URL as well. Use YouTube’s recommended RTMPS ingest where available; RTMPS encrypts the data transfer.

Add a video and make it loop

  1. In OBS, select the scene that will carry the broadcast. Under Sources, select + → Media Source, give it a name, and choose OK.
  2. In the Media Source properties, choose Browse and select the local video file. OBS documents support for local video formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, and WebM. Check Loop, then select OK. OBS Media Sources documentation describes the available properties.
  3. Make the source fill the canvas: right-click it in the preview and choose Transform → Fit to Screen. Check the preview for cropping, letterboxing, or an unintended aspect-ratio stretch.
  4. Restart playback when source becomes active is separate from Loop. Restart playback controls whether the file starts over when the source enters the visible current scene; it does not replace the Loop setting.
  5. Play through the end and beginning of the file before broadcasting. Confirm the video repeats and listen for an abrupt audio cut or silence at the loop point. If the clip has a hard cut, OBS will repeat that cut; looping does not edit or crossfade the file.

Using a playlist instead of one file

For multiple files, OBS offers a VLC Video source with playlist controls and a Loop Playlist property. VLC must be installed for that source to work. For a single file, Media Source is the simpler option. See OBS’s source documentation.

Configure OBS for 4K at 60 fps

  1. Open Settings → Video. Set Base (Canvas) Resolution to 3840 × 2160 and Output (Scaled) Resolution to 3840 × 2160 if you intend to send 4K without scaling. Set Common FPS Values to 60.
  2. Open Settings → Output and set Output Mode to Advanced to view the streaming encoder controls. Select an encoder and codec your computer supports. The available choices depend on OBS, your operating system, and the computer’s encoder hardware; encoding at 4K/60 can create substantial system load.
  3. For the streaming encoder, set the rate-control mode to CBR and the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. YouTube’s guidance says not to exceed a four-second keyframe interval. Use square pixels, progressive scan, and, for SDR, Rec. 709 color with 8-bit depth. Labels and available controls can differ by encoder.
  4. Set the bitrate according to the selected codec and your measured, stable upload capacity. YouTube publishes the following figures for 2160p at 60 fps; its help page does not state a publication year for this table.
Codec YouTube-published minimum YouTube-recommended bitrate
AV1 or H.265 (HEVC) 10 Mbps 35 Mbps
H.264 14 Mbps 50 Mbps

These values describe YouTube’s recommended ingest configuration, not a measurement of any Indian ISP or a promise that a particular connection will hold steady. Allow headroom for upload variation and competing network use. If the stream drops frames, loses connection, or shows poor stream health, reduce the bitrate, resolution, or frame rate until the connection and encoder can sustain the output. YouTube notes that 2160p streams do not have the low-latency option and use normal latency. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.

Test, then start the live stream

  1. In OBS, start streaming only when the intended scene and source are ready. Keep the YouTube Live Control Room open and wait for its preview to appear.
  2. Before making the event public or promoting it, check the preview for the correct picture and resolution. Listen for clean audio, verify that the clip loops, and check YouTube’s stream health.
  3. Use a private or unlisted test broadcast when appropriate. YouTube advises testing before a live event and monitoring audio and video quality and stream health while live. Read YouTube’s live streaming tips.
  4. Once the preview and health indicators are satisfactory, start the broadcast in YouTube’s Live Control Room if the selected workflow requires it. Keep OBS, the computer, and the network connection running for the duration of this DIY stream.

Copyright and YouTube channel considerations

Having a file that plays correctly in OBS does not establish that you have permission to stream its music, video, or other material. Use content you created or are authorized to broadcast, and check the applicable rights before going live. YouTube’s eligibility rules and live controls also apply to the channel and broadcast; looping the same video does not bypass them. Review YouTube’s current live-stream eligibility guidance and broadcast settings before scheduling a public event.

Common problems and fixes

  • The video plays once and stops: Open the Media Source properties and enable Loop. The separate restart-on-active option is not a substitute.
  • The YouTube preview never appears: Check that the correct broadcast is selected, the stream URL/key are entered correctly, and OBS is streaming. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
  • Stream health reports bitrate or connection trouble: Test sustained upload on the active connection, reduce the OBS bitrate, and if needed lower output resolution or frame rate. Do not assume a connection can sustain 4K/60 from an advertised download figure.
  • OBS drops frames or the output stutters: Check whether the computer is struggling to encode 4K/60. Try a hardware encoder if supported, or lower the output resolution or frame rate and retest.
  • The picture is cropped, stretched, or has bars: Check the source aspect ratio and canvas; use Transform → Fit to Screen rather than stretching the source to fill.
  • The loop has a visible or audible jump: Inspect the source file’s end and beginning. The Loop property repeats the file as-is; revise or export a smoother loop if a seamless transition is needed.
  • The VLC playlist source is missing or unavailable: Install VLC, then restart or reopen OBS and check the VLC Video source. Use Media Source for one local video if playlist controls are unnecessary.
