In OBS Studio, add your aquarium video as a local Media Source and turn on Loop. That repeats the file when playback ends, but it does not guarantee a gap-free transition: the video’s first and last frames, decoding, and the full streaming setup all matter. Test the actual YouTube stream across a complete loop before relying on it.
Set up a continuous loop in OBS
- Add the video: In OBS, add a Media Source to your scene and select the local aquarium video file. OBS supports formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, and WebM. Confirm that the file plays correctly from start to finish.
- Enable repetition: Open the Media Source properties and turn on Loop. Keep the source visible in the scene. Avoid changing scenes or toggling the source’s visibility at the boundary; those actions add transitions that are not needed for a basic loop.
- Check the edit point: Watch the last seconds and first seconds of the clip back-to-back. The final image and motion should lead naturally into the opening frame. OBS repeats the file; it cannot fix a visible jump, flash, or pause built into the footage.
- For multiple clips: Add a VLC Video source and configure its playlist. OBS documents a Loop Playlist option for this source; VLC must be installed for the source to appear. Watch every clip-to-clip transition and the transition from the final playlist item back to the first.
The OBS documentation describes loop behavior, not a frame-perfect boundary guarantee for every file, computer, storage device, or OBS build. A black-gap-free result has to be verified on the specific setup.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live at 4K60
- Prepare the YouTube stream: Create or schedule a live stream in YouTube Studio and use its stream URL and stream key in your encoder. Treat the key as a secret: anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your channel. YouTube lists OBS among its verified encoder options.
- Set the output format: Configure the encoder for 3840 × 2160 at 60 fps. Confirm that both your encoder and YouTube ingest configuration support the chosen codec and settings.
- Use YouTube’s H.264 guidance: For 4K/2160p at 60 fps, YouTube’s current encoder-settings guidance recommends an H.264 bitrate of 35 Mbps. It recommends CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval, and says not to exceed 4 seconds. These are YouTube’s H.264 recommendations; do not apply that bitrate target indiscriminately to AV1 or H.265, which have separate ranges.
- Choose the connection protocol: YouTube supports RTMP and RTMPS and recommends RTMPS. Select it where your encoder offers the option.
- Check network capacity: Use a stable connection, preferably wired, and check upload speed under conditions representative of the stream. YouTube advises choosing settings that fit the reliability of the upload connection. The cited guidance does not prescribe a universal bandwidth-headroom multiplier, so verify the stream’s health rather than relying on a single speed-test result.
YouTube automatically transcodes live ingest for different devices and connections. Sending a 4K60 signal therefore does not mean every viewer will receive 4K60; available playback quality also depends on YouTube’s output options and the viewer’s device and connection.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTest for black gaps before going public
- Start with a private or unlisted test stream and check YouTube Studio’s preview and stream-health messages.
- Watch the YouTube player—not only the OBS preview—through at least one complete file loop. For a playlist, check every adjacent clip boundary and the playlist wraparound.
- Look for a black flash, frozen frame, pause, abrupt visual jump, or audio discontinuity. If one appears, first check the clip’s edit point and then investigate playback, encoding, and connection behavior.
- Monitor OBS for dropped frames and watch the computer’s performance during sustained 4K60 encoding. Confirm that the selected settings remain stable over the full test.
- Repeat the test after changing the file, source, encoder settings, or computer. A result from one setup does not establish that another will behave identically.
YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health. Neither the OBS documentation nor YouTube’s guidance guarantees uninterrupted playback or a gap-free loop on every setup.

Know what viewers can and cannot control
At 4K/2160, YouTube’s encoder guidance says the low-latency optimization option is unavailable, so the stream uses normal latency. That delay may be suitable for a mostly static aquarium broadcast, but it is not a real-time viewing experience.
DVR is separate from the source loop. When enabled, viewers can pause, rewind, and resume a live stream. YouTube warns that DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable on very long streams beyond 12 hours, and viewers cannot seek to a point before the stream began. DVR does not change the transition OBS makes when the file repeats.

Check footage rights before broadcasting
Being able to loop a video technically does not give you permission to rebroadcast it. Use footage you own or have licensed for the intended public livestream, and confirm that any music or other material embedded in the video is covered as well. Technical setup guidance cannot determine the rights status of a particular aquarium video.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you would rather not keep an OBS computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload the aquarium video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo plays uploaded video; it does not broadcast from a camera.
