You can keep prerecorded educational videos live on YouTube around the clock by sending them through an encoder connected to YouTube Live. Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, put its server URL and stream key into software on a computer or a hardware encoder, then play your lesson or playlist into that encoder. For a managed cloud alternative, StreamNeo loops uploaded videos to YouTube without requiring a computer to stay on.
Before you start: confirm eligibility and prepare the lessons
YouTube says a channel must be verified, have had no livestreaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and the person livestreaming must be at least 16. Check the channel’s current eligibility in YouTube Studio before building the broadcast. See YouTube’s livestreaming eligibility guidance.

Choose the videos and their order, and check the rights to every element: video, images, music, and other audio or visuals. You are responsible for having the necessary rights to livestream the material. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match may replace the live image, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. Even if you have a license, ask the rights holder whether your channel needs to be allowlisted in Content ID. Details: YouTube’s copyright guidance and YouTube’s terms.

Choose an encoder path
| Option | When it fits | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| Software encoder on a computer | You already use encoding software or want a general-purpose setup. | YouTube supports software encoding. Its cited guidance does not specify minimum computer CPU, memory, or storage requirements for continuous prerecorded playback. |
| Dedicated hardware encoder | You are building a higher-production setup and prefer a dedicated encoding device. | YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events. Its guidance does not identify a required brand or model, or say that hardware alone guarantees uninterrupted playback. |
YouTube describes both software and hardware encoder approaches in its live-streaming tips. Neither approach removes the need to test the full playback chain and plan for monitoring and recovery.

Set up the YouTube Live connection
- Open YouTube Studio and create an encoder stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream using the encoder option. YouTube’s interface can change, so use the current labels shown in Studio. The YouTube encoder setup guidance describes the connection workflow.
- Copy the ingest details into the encoder. Copy the server URL and stream key displayed in the Live Control Room into the corresponding fields in your encoder. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish or share it, and reset it through YouTube’s stream settings if it is exposed. YouTube recommends RTMPS for secure ingest.
- Set the prerecorded program as the encoder’s input. Configure your software or hardware encoder to play the lesson file or playlist. The YouTube guidance explains how to connect an encoder, but does not prescribe a particular looping application or guarantee a seamless transition between files; confirm how your chosen encoder handles end-of-file and playlist transitions.
- Preview and test before going public. Start an unlisted or otherwise appropriate test, check the Live Control Room preview, listen for audio problems, and look for unexpected black frames, frozen video, or gaps between lessons. YouTube advises testing before going live and monitoring stream health.
- Start the broadcast and keep watch. When the preview and stream health are acceptable, start the stream in the encoder and confirm the broadcast is live in Studio. For a 24-hour operation, arrange someone or a monitoring process to notice a stopped feed, encoder failure, or YouTube warning and respond; YouTube does not promise uninterrupted uptime for this workflow.
Choose stable video and audio settings
Use settings supported by both your encoder and a dependable upload connection. YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 for video, AAC or MP3 for audio, and constant bitrate encoding. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. For resolution-specific bitrate guidance, use YouTube’s encoder settings rather than treating one bitrate as right for every resolution or connection.
- Start with a resolution and bitrate your encoder can sustain continuously, not merely during a short test.
- Use the recommended two-second keyframe interval unless your encoder’s available settings require another supported value; do not exceed four seconds.
- Check that the lesson’s audio is audible and synchronized, especially at file boundaries.
- Use RTMPS when available, and watch the Live Control Room’s stream-health indicators for warnings.
Plan the schedule, replay, and educational value
Keep the broadcast useful to learners
Make the lesson sequence understandable: explain what viewers will learn, label or introduce topics where appropriate, and add original educational context rather than relying on repeated playback alone. Technical ability to broadcast does not make a channel eligible for monetization. YouTube’s monetization policies say highly repetitive or mass-produced material with little educational, commentary, or other viewer value can be ineligible. Reused-content review is separate from copyright permission and applies at the channel level. YouTube clarified on July 15, 2025 that it renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content”; it said the clarification concerned repetitive or mass-produced content and did not change the reused-content policy. See YouTube’s channel monetization policies.

Decide how viewers will get a replay
YouTube’s encoder instructions say streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. The cited guidance does not promise automatic archiving for a longer continuous broadcast. If a replay matters, schedule sessions below 12 hours and confirm each resulting archive in Studio rather than assuming a 24-hour stream will become one complete replay. See YouTube’s encoder live-streaming instructions.
Troubleshoot common failures
- The encoder cannot connect: Check that the server URL and stream key match the current stream in Live Control Room. If the key may have been exposed or is no longer current, reset it in YouTube’s stream settings and update the encoder.
- The preview is black, frozen, or silent: Confirm the correct file or playlist is selected, the encoder is receiving it, and audio is enabled. Test transitions between files; the platform guidance does not guarantee seamless handoffs.
- Stream health shows warnings or the feed drops: Test a lower resolution or bitrate that your connection can sustain, verify the encoder remains online, and monitor the ingest status in Studio. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring but does not guarantee a continuous connection.
- The live video is interrupted after a rights match: Review the matched material and your permissions. If a rights holder authorized the use, ask whether they must allowlist your channel in Content ID; permission alone may not prevent an automated interruption.
- No complete replay appears: Check the session duration and the archive in Studio. YouTube’s cited automatic-archive guidance applies to streams under 12 hours; it does not establish automatic archiving for longer continuous streams.
