How to Livestream Podcast Episodes on YouTube with Streamlabs Desktop

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To livestream a podcast episode on YouTube with Streamlabs Desktop, connect your YouTube channel, choose your microphone and any camera sources, set up the show scene and stream details, preview the signal, then select Go Live. Before the broadcast, confirm that your channel can livestream. Afterward, organize the full-length recording separately in a YouTube podcast playlist: a YouTube podcast is a playlist of video episodes, not an MP3 upload.

Before you start: confirm your YouTube channel can go live

YouTube requires a verified channel and no livestream restriction within the previous 90 days. If you have never livestreamed, verify the channel and allow time for YouTube’s setup before scheduling an episode. Check the current requirements in YouTube’s livestreaming requirements; eligibility and platform rules can change.

Plan the episode as a video broadcast, even if the conversation is audio-first. A microphone is essential for intelligible speech; a camera is optional. The official guidance does not require a particular microphone or webcam model, and YouTube says expensive equipment is not necessary to get started.

How to livestream a podcast episode with Streamlabs Desktop

1. Connect Streamlabs Desktop to YouTube

  1. Open Streamlabs Desktop and sign in with the YouTube account for the channel that will host the episode. Follow the platform connection prompts and grant requested camera or microphone permissions.
  2. If you are setting up a stream manually, select YouTube as the platform and enter the stream details. Streamlabs’ YouTube livestream guide covers connecting the account and configuring a stream; its Desktop getting-started guide describes the current setup flow.

Controls and prompts can vary with the installed Desktop version and account connection state. Use the current prompts shown in your app rather than assuming every screen looks identical.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

2. Choose and check your audio and video sources

  1. Add or select the microphone you will use for the conversation. Speak at your normal recording volume and confirm the audio meter responds to your voice.
  2. If the show includes video, add or select a camera and check its framing. A webcam is optional for an audio-focused episode.
  3. Arrange the sources in the show scene so titles, guest windows, or other visual elements do not cover faces or essential information.

Streamlabs may detect connected devices, but the cited setup guidance does not name or require a specific model. Existing compatible equipment may be enough. Before buying gear, consider whether a USB microphone’s simpler connection suits a solo host, or whether a multi-host setup needs separate microphones and additional audio connections; these are practical selection considerations, not tested product recommendations.

3. Set the episode details and review the scene

Enter the stream’s details in the setup flow, then inspect the complete scene: microphone, camera if used, layout, and any on-screen material. Make sure the intended YouTube channel and episode information are selected before going live. The cited Streamlabs guides explain connection and setup, but do not establish universal recommended resolution, bitrate, or keyframe values for every computer and connection. Follow the current YouTube encoder guidance for the settings appropriate to your output: YouTube encoder settings and live streaming guidance.

  1. Review the Streamlabs preview and confirm the correct microphone is active, the camera framing is usable if included, and the scene appears as intended.
  2. Use an unlisted or otherwise suitable test stream before the public episode if you need to check the end-to-end signal. Confirm that the event is accessible to the intended audience.
  3. During the broadcast, keep an eye on audio and video quality and respond if the signal changes.

YouTube recommends testing, checking the Live Control Room preview, verifying event accessibility, and monitoring quality. Its guidance is in livestream requirements and encoder guidance.

5. Start the livestream

When the preview and event details are correct, select Go Live in Streamlabs Desktop and confirm any final prompt. Once the episode ends, stop the broadcast through the app’s live controls. Check the resulting recording in YouTube before treating it as a published podcast episode.

How to organize the livestream recording as a YouTube podcast

Livestreaming and podcast organization are separate tasks. YouTube Help states: “On YouTube, a podcast is a playlist, and podcast episodes are videos within that playlist.” Create or choose a podcast in YouTube Studio, then add the full-length episode video to its podcast playlist and order the episodes appropriately. See YouTube’s instructions for creating a podcast in Studio.

An MP3 by itself cannot be added in YouTube Studio as a podcast episode; the episode needs to be a video. A completed eligible livestream recording can be handled as a video episode and organized in the playlist. Do not confuse the live broadcast setup in Streamlabs with the separate playlist step in Studio.

When YouTube RSS delivery is a better fit

For an audio-first back catalog or releases, YouTube’s RSS workflow is an alternative to livestreaming. In supported countries and regions, YouTube can make static-image videos from selected RSS episodes and automatically upload new feed episodes. Availability is geographically limited, so check eligibility in YouTube’s RSS delivery help.

RSS uploads have constraints that differ from a Streamlabs livestream:

  • Check each upload’s visibility and copyright or monetization status.

  • YouTube’s RSS instructions say RSS-uploaded podcast content cannot contain advertisements. Host-read promotions, sponsorships, or endorsements must use the branded-content setting and comply with applicable policies. This specific restriction concerns RSS-uploaded podcast content; it should not be assumed to describe every livestream format.

Common setup problems and what to check

  • You cannot start a livestream: check channel verification and whether a livestream restriction applies. Review YouTube’s current eligibility requirements.
  • The microphone is silent or the wrong device is active: check Streamlabs’ selected audio source and permissions, then speak and watch for meter activity before going live.
  • The camera or scene is not right: confirm the selected camera source, permissions, and scene layout in the preview. A camera is optional; do not delay an audio-first show solely to add one.
  • The preview or stream quality is poor: inspect the source and connection, test before the scheduled episode, and use YouTube’s encoder guidance for applicable output settings. The official sources cited here do not establish one universal bitrate or resolution for all setups.
  • The recording is not in the podcast: add the full-length video to the podcast playlist in YouTube Studio; starting a livestream does not itself perform that organization step.
  • You want to publish only an MP3: use the RSS option if available for your region, or prepare a video episode. YouTube Studio podcast playlists do not accept a standalone MP3 as an episode.

Or let it run in the cloud

Streamlabs Desktop is the do-it-yourself route for a podcast broadcast with live microphone and optional camera sources. For a YouTube channel that should keep uploaded video playing continuously, StreamNeo is a different workflow: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud; it does not broadcast from a camera.

  • Nothing has to stay on at home: the cloud stream continues with your computer off.
  • Each slot streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; there are no quality tiers or re-encoding.
  • Automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream.
  • The first day is free with no card, one free day per account.

Monthly: $9.99 per month.
