You can broadcast prerecorded performances continuously on YouTube by sending them through an encoder to a YouTube Live stream. Set up the stream in Live Control Room, connect the encoder with your stream URL and key, test the feed, and monitor stream health. Before you begin, confirm you have the rights to broadcast every recording; YouTube can interrupt a live stream when it detects third-party content.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel with livestreaming enabled. First-time enablement may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Prerecorded performance files and an encoder capable of playing and sending them as a live feed. YouTube supports software and hardware encoder approaches; it does not require a particular playlist or looping application. See YouTube’s livestreaming tips.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for your selected stream settings, plus time to test the actual audio and motion you plan to broadcast.
- The necessary rights to broadcast all music and other content in the performances.
Set up a continuous prerecorded-music stream
- Enable livestreaming and open Live Control Room. Complete any channel verification or enablement steps YouTube presents. If this is the channel’s first livestream, allow up to 24 hours for enablement.
- Create a stream in Live Control Room. Choose the event details and privacy settings appropriate for your broadcast. Use YouTube’s encoder workflow rather than treating the uploaded files as an ordinary video upload.
- Prepare the performance sequence in your encoder. Set it to play the recordings in the intended order and repeat them if you want the feed to continue. Test the sequence: YouTube’s official setup guidance does not endorse a specific playlist or looping application, so confirm that your chosen encoder can play the files continuously and recover from playback issues.
- Copy the stream URL and key from YouTube into the encoder. Keep the key private; it functions as a credential. Do not show it in public screenshots, recordings, or guides. Follow the encoder’s instructions for connecting to YouTube.
- Choose settings for your resolution and network. YouTube recommends RTMP or RTMPS and lists supported video codecs including H.264, H.265, and AV1, with AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS. Use constant bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube says the interval should not exceed four seconds. Select the bitrate from the current YouTube encoder settings table for your chosen resolution and frame rate rather than copying a number without its context.
- Preview before going live. Check the Live Control Room preview for picture, sound, and correct playback. Test with representative audio and motion, then review stream health and any encoder or YouTube messages.
- Start the broadcast and keep monitoring it. Confirm that the feed is still playing, the connection is stable, and YouTube reports healthy stream status. A playlist that is meant to loop should be tested long enough to verify the transition back to its beginning.
Choose an encoder and connection that fit the broadcast
YouTube supports software encoders and hardware encoders. A software encoder can be suitable when the computer can reliably play the files and encode the selected output; a dedicated hardware encoder may suit a more complex production. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring but does not establish that one approach is best for prerecorded music. Compare options by whether they can play the whole sequence reliably, the production complexity you need, your upload capacity and backup connectivity, and how you will notice and recover from a failure.

Keep the stream bitrate within the upload capacity available to the encoder and leave headroom. YouTube warns that network disruption can break a stream; its streaming tips explain connection considerations. Extra bandwidth or backup connectivity can reduce risk but cannot guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast.

You are responsible for having the necessary rights for the live content. YouTube’s livestream terms say the provider must hold rights for exploitation of the live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights involving artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. A recording being available online, or having permission to use one part of it, does not by itself establish that you have all the rights needed for a live broadcast.

Even a streaming equipment accessory will not be dull looking when video production.
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If it detects material that continues to appear in the stream, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it temporarily, or terminate it. For third-party content you are licensed to use, YouTube says to ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; a license by itself may not prevent an automated interruption. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Permission, applicable copyright exceptions, public domain, Creative Commons terms, YouTube’s Audio Library, and Creator Music can be possible routes for using content, depending on the material and terms. None guarantees that you will avoid a copyright claim or strike. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance and obtain advice for your specific rights situation when needed.

Will YouTube save the continuous stream as a replay?
YouTube’s encoder setup page says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. It does not establish that a stream longer than 12 hours will be fully archived. If having a complete replay matters, plan around the documented under-12-hour behavior and check YouTube’s current instructions rather than assuming a longer continuous broadcast will be saved in full. See YouTube’s encoder setup page.

Troubleshoot common problems
- YouTube does not let you start the stream: Check whether livestreaming is enabled for the channel. For first-time enablement, allow up to 24 hours before assuming setup has failed.
- The encoder will not connect: Verify that you copied the current stream URL and key into the correct encoder fields, that the stream is set up in Live Control Room, and that the encoder is using a supported protocol and settings.
- The preview is blank or has no sound: Confirm the selected file, playback output, audio source, and encoder input. Test with the same audio and moving-image conditions planned for the broadcast before starting publicly.
- The stream stutters or disconnects: Check stream health and encoder messages, lower the bitrate if it exceeds reliable upload capacity, and check for network interruptions. YouTube cautions that disruption can break the stream; leave upload headroom and consider backup connectivity.
- YouTube interrupts the stream over a music match: Review the copyright notice and identify the matched material. Confirm that your rights cover the live use; if you have a license for third-party content, ask its owner about Content ID allowlisting. Do not assume that a license alone prevents automated interruption.
- The recording sequence stops or fails to loop: Check the encoder’s playback and repeat behavior and test a complete pass through the sequence, including the transition back to the beginning. The YouTube encoder guidance does not guarantee uninterrupted looping by a particular application.
- You cannot find a complete replay: Check the broadcast duration. YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours, not a guarantee of a full archive for longer ones.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep prerecorded performances live on YouTube without leaving a computer running at home, StreamNeo runs the stream in the cloud. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and streams to YouTube only.
