You can broadcast gameplay directly from either console: on PS5, link YouTube and choose Create > Broadcast; on PS4, link YouTube and choose SHARE > Broadcast Gameplay. No capture card or camera is required. Before you troubleshoot, check that your YouTube channel is eligible to stream.
Before you start: check YouTube eligibility
A console can be set up correctly and still be blocked by YouTube account requirements. YouTube says a channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and belong to a creator who is at least 16 years old. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements. PlayStation also notes that YouTube account verification may be needed for broadcast features.

- Use the YouTube account for the channel you intend to broadcast to.
- If YouTube asks you to enable live streaming, sign into that account in a web browser and start live streaming there, then return to the console.
- Child accounts cannot broadcast from PlayStation consoles.
Stream from PS5 to YouTube
- Link YouTube. You can link it the first time you start a broadcast or from the PS5 home screen. When you open the Broadcast card in Control Center, it indicates whether a service is already linked.
- Open the broadcast controls. Press the controller’s Create button and select Broadcast.
- Choose YouTube. Sign in or complete the linking prompts if asked, then enter the broadcast information.
- Set optional broadcast choices. In Broadcast Options, choose whether to include camera video or party audio. Neither is required to stream gameplay.
- Go live. Select Go Live. The broadcast card appears in Control Center while the stream is running.
Set PS5 broadcast defaults
To change defaults, go to Settings > Captures and Broadcasts > Broadcasts. The available controls include video quality, audio, camera, overlays, and chat-to-speech. PlayStation says available resolutions vary by streaming service, so do not assume a particular resolution is offered in every setup. Some game scenes may also be hidden from viewers.
Stream from PS4 to YouTube
- Link the account. Go to Settings > Account Management > Link with Other Services, choose YouTube, and sign in. If two-step authentication is enabled, enter the verification code when prompted.
- Start a broadcast from a game. While playing, press the controller’s SHARE button and choose Broadcast Gameplay.
- Select YouTube. Sign in if requested and adjust the broadcast settings shown on screen.
- Change settings mid-stream if needed. Press OPTIONS to open the advanced broadcast menu.
PS4 and PS4 Pro quality limits
PlayStation says PS4 Pro can broadcast up to 1080p at 60 fps, depending on the service and bandwidth. That is not a promise for every PS4 model, service, or connection. HDR is not supported for broadcast on PS4 Pro. For direct console streaming, PlayStation does not give a universal upload-speed threshold or bitrate; use the quality choices the console exposes and judge the result on your connection.

Camera, microphone, and party privacy
Gameplay broadcasting does not require a camera. On PS5, camera video and microphone or party audio are configurable options. If you include party audio, tell everyone in the party first so they know their voices may be heard on the stream. On PS4, avoid showing personal or sensitive information such as your real name or address. An optional PS5 HD Camera (CFI-ZEY series), sold separately, can put you on screen, but it is not needed to broadcast gameplay.
Fix common YouTube broadcast problems
YouTube is missing, asks for verification, or will not authorize the broadcast
- Confirm you linked the intended YouTube account and that the channel is verified and eligible under YouTube’s live-streaming rules.
- If YouTube asks you to enable live streaming, sign into the same account in a browser and start live streaming on YouTube there, then retry on the console.
- If authorization still fails, unlink YouTube from the PlayStation account and link it again.
PS5 will not start or maintain a broadcast
- Check PlayStation service status for a current outage.
- Install any available PS5 system software update.
- Test the connection at Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection.
- Unlink and relink the broadcast service.
- If simpler checks do not help, PlayStation also lists restoring licenses and refreshing Console Sharing and Offline Play as recovery steps.
Resolution and stream stability depend on the options available for the chosen service and the connection. There is no single official upload-speed or bitrate setting that PlayStation prescribes for every direct-console YouTube broadcast.
