Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsYou can use a phone as the camera, Larix Broadcaster as the encoder, and Wowza as the receiving destination: get the RTMP connection details from your Wowza setup, enter them in Larix, start the broadcast, then test ingest and viewer playback separately. The exact server address, application, and stream name depend on your Wowza configuration, so a sample URL is not a universal destination.
What you need before going live
- A phone that meets Larix Broadcaster’s listed minimum: iOS 16.0 or later, or Android 7.0 or later. Device encoder support and advanced feature availability may vary. Softvelum’s Larix platform information describes H.264/AVC video and AAC audio as the standard encoding path.
- A configured Wowza destination and its connection values. Streaming Engine is self-managed server software; Wowza Video is a separate hosted workflow with its own setup and encoder connection details. Use the values for the product and instance you actually have.
- A stable network suitable for the location and stream quality. A brief test on the same network is more informative than relying on a generic upload-speed threshold.
A tripod or adjustable phone mount, external microphone, or power bank can be useful for a long or hands-free shoot, but none is required by the basic Larix-to-Wowza connection. Check compatibility with your phone before buying accessories.

Get the right connection details from Wowza
For Wowza Streaming Engine
Identify the server address, port, application name, and stream name expected by the application. Wowza documents 1935 as the default RTMP streaming port, but an installation can use a different port or other customized connection settings. The general RTMP address shape is rtmp://[address]:[port]/[application]; the stream name is entered as the separate stream field in the publishing workflow. Follow the values shown by your instance, not a URL copied from an example. See Wowza’s Streaming Engine URL guidance.

For Wowza Video
Use the live-stream setup flow to obtain the encoder connection details for that hosted destination. Do not assume that a Streaming Engine application name, endpoint, or playback address also applies to Wowza Video. See Wowza Video’s live-stream setup instructions and its encoder connection guidance.

Configure Larix Broadcaster and start the stream
- Create a connection: In Larix Broadcaster, open its connection settings and add a connection. Enter the RTMP server/application URL supplied by Wowza, then enter the stream name or key in the field expected by that destination. Larix’s documentation explains how the server/application URL and stream name make up the connection information: Larix Broadcaster documentation.
- Choose a compatible encoding: H.264/AVC video with AAC audio is a documented common path: Larix describes it as its standard encoding, and Wowza lists H.264/AAC-family RTMP input support. Choose settings compatible with the specific Wowza configuration. Wowza’s supported input formats are documented at Wowza’s encoder and codec reference.
- Set resolution and bitrate: Larix says the selected bitrate is the encoder target. Its FAQ provides the following resolution-based suggestions; these are vendor guidance, not a guarantee that a cellular network or server will sustain the stream:
| Resolution | Larix suggested bitrate |
|---|---|
| 2160 | 4500 Kbps |
| 1080 | 3000 Kbps |
| 720 | 2000 Kbps |
| 540 | 1500 Kbps |
| 480 | 1000 Kbps |
| 360 | 700 Kbps |
| 288 | 500 Kbps |
| 144 | 300 Kbps |
Larix’s FAQ says HEVC halves these listed values, while 50 fps or higher multiplies them by 1.6. Treat those as Larix’s configuration rules, not measured performance results. For an unstable connection, lower the target resolution or bitrate and test again. The FAQ also describes an adaptive-bitrate option and notes that worsening network conditions can cause frame loss with RTMP/RTSP. See Larix’s bitrate and streaming FAQ.

- Start publishing: Return to the Larix broadcast screen, select the connection you created, and start the stream. If it fails to connect, verify the address, port, application, stream name, network reachability, and any source security settings against the destination’s actual configuration.
- Confirm server ingest: Check the Wowza application or source monitor to see whether the stream is arriving. A phone showing that it is transmitting is not by itself proof that Wowza has accepted the source.
- Test playback independently: Open the playback URL and protocol configured for viewers. Wowza’s tutorial demonstrates an HLS output played in Larix Player; the viewer URL depends on the server, application, and stream name, and the default application instance may be implicit. A working ingest does not establish that the playback URL or delivery path is correct. Use the appropriate playback URL guidance for your deployment at Wowza’s URL documentation.
The end-to-end Wowza Larix tutorial demonstrates a local Streaming Engine workflow. Its tutorial is older, so use it for the conceptual sequence and rely on your current instance’s connection settings for exact values and screens.
RTMP or SRT: use the protocol your destination accepts
The documented Larix-to-Wowza example uses RTMP. Larix also supports SRT publishing modes such as Caller/Push, Listen, and Rendezvous, but SRT is not a drop-in replacement for the RTMP URL: the Wowza input path and connection details must also be configured for SRT. The available SRT options can differ by deployment; confirm them in the selected Wowza product rather than assuming every account or server exposes the same inputs. Larix protocol information is available on Softvelum’s platform page, and Wowza input support is covered in its codec and encoder documentation.

Troubleshoot the common failure points
| Symptom | What to check |
|---|---|
| Larix cannot connect | Recheck the destination address, port, application, stream name/key, network reachability, and source security settings. Use the exact connection values from the Wowza instance; 1935 is a default, not a promise that every server uses it. |
| Wowza does not show an incoming source | Confirm Larix is publishing to the intended application and stream name, then inspect that application’s ingest/source status. Do not troubleshoot playback until the source is accepted. |
| Viewers cannot play the stream although ingest works | Check the configured output protocol and viewer URL separately. Verify server, application, stream name, and any required application-instance details against the playback configuration. |
| Video freezes or loses frames on mobile data | Network conditions may be insufficient or variable for the target settings. Run a test where you plan to stream, lower bitrate or resolution, and consider Larix’s adaptive-bitrate option where appropriate. |
| Audio or video is rejected or absent | Check that the chosen video and audio codecs are supported by the actual Wowza input configuration; H.264 and AAC-family audio are documented compatible choices for the standard workflow. |
| RTMP details do not work with an SRT setup | Confirm both Larix and Wowza are configured for the same protocol and SRT mode. Do not paste SRT details into an RTMP connection or vice versa. |
Or let it run in the cloud
Larix and Wowza are for sending a live camera feed from your phone. If instead your goal is to keep uploaded videos playing as a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo is a different workflow: upload the video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps it running, so nothing has to stay on at home; it accepts the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. Start the free day with StreamNeo.

Can I use Larix with Wowza Video as well as Streaming Engine?
Yes, but get the encoder details from the setup flow for the specific Wowza product. Streaming Engine and Wowza Video are distinct destinations and do not necessarily share connection values.
