Finish either The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages or Oracle of Seasons, then use its completion password to start a linked game in the other title. The password route works for the Game Boy games on Nintendo Switch Online and does not require a Game Link cable. Linking is optional, but it lets the second game respond to events from the first and add story material.
How the linked story works
Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons have separate plots: Ages takes place in Labrynna, while Seasons takes place in Holodrum. Each can be played on its own. To connect them, complete one game and enter the password it provides when beginning a new game in the other.

Nintendo says a linked game may add items, have characters remember actions from the first adventure, and expand story elements. These are possible changes, not a guarantee that every item or story detail will differ. Nintendo recommends this route for players who want a more connected experience. Nintendo UK’s 2013 announcement describes the completion-password connection; Nintendo Australia’s Switch Online article outlines the linked experience without enumerating every change.

- Finish either game. You can start with Ages or Seasons; completing either provides the password for the other.
- Record the password. Keep the completion password shown at the end. On an original Oracle of Ages cartridge, the manual says it can also be reviewed in the Hall of Secrets on a completed file.
- Start a new game in the other title. When prompted to enter a password or choose the linked-game option, enter the completion password from the first game. The original Ages manual describes selecting “SECRETS” when continuing from a completed Seasons file.
- Play through the second adventure. The game uses the password to connect the experience to the actions and progress from the first title.
On Nintendo Switch Online, use the password method. Nintendo’s description of the service’s Game Boy titles presents completion-password linking; it does not establish that a Game Link cable is available or needed there.

Password linking and the original cable method
The original Oracle of Ages manual documents a separate cable-transfer option for Game Boy Color cartridges. It is a legacy hardware setup, not a requirement for password linking.

For the cable transfer, the manual also warns not to press buttons on the system running Oracle of Seasons while the transfer is underway. The manual is hosted as a PDF by The Game Is Afoot Arcade.

Which game should you play first?
Either one. Nintendo says each adventure can be enjoyed separately and that completing one gives you the password to enter in the other. Choose Ages or Seasons as your starting point based on which setting appeals to you; the linking process works in either direction. Nintendo UK’s Oracle of Ages page also describes the completion-password connection.
