How to Link Aadhaar to Government Services and Check Which Services Have Access

There is no single UIDAI page that lists every government service or database connected to your Aadhaar number. Each department or provider keeps its own records. To verify a connection, check the service’s own portal or office: the Income Tax Department handles Aadhaar–PAN linking, your bank handles Aadhaar seeding for Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) through the NPCI mapper, and each welfare scheme sets its own enrolment or authentication process.

UIDAI’s Authentication History can show Aadhaar authentication events, but it is not a directory of every record that contains your Aadhaar. The steps below separate these different processes so you can check the right status and know what the result actually proves.

“Link Aadhaar” can mean three different things

People use “link Aadhaar” as a general phrase, but government systems use it for different operations. Before checking a status, identify which one you need.

Task System and responsible organisation What the status proves
Link Aadhaar with PAN Income Tax Department e-Filing portal Whether the PAN–Aadhaar linking request was validated, is pending, or failed
Enable Aadhaar-based DBT to a bank account Your bank submits the mandate and seeds the account in the NPCI mapper Whether the account is mapped for Aadhaar-based benefit credits
Use a government scheme or service The implementing ministry, department, or service provider That scheme’s enrolment, authentication, or benefit-delivery status
Review Aadhaar authentication Official UIDAI app or current UIDAI service flow Authentication events recorded by UIDAI, not every service record containing Aadhaar

UIDAI says an Aadhaar use case must be authorised under the Aadhaar Act and notified by the relevant ministry or department. A department may record Aadhaar during enrolment, ask for authentication when you claim a service, or use another approved method. These are not interchangeable statuses.

Can you see every service that has access to your Aadhaar?

No. UIDAI states that it does not have visibility into service-level linking between Aadhaar and other services. The department operating a tax, subsidy, pension, ration, employment, education, or other database maintains that link. Consequently, there is no universal UIDAI list showing every account, scheme, or database in which your Aadhaar appears.

Authentication History is useful for a narrower purpose. It records authentication events, such as when a service attempted to verify your identity using an Aadhaar number and an approved factor. An event does not prove that the service permanently stores your Aadhaar, that you are enrolled in its scheme, or that a benefit was paid. Conversely, a service may hold a legitimate record without generating a recent authentication event.

To investigate access, make a list of the services you actually use, then check each provider’s official account, acknowledgement, or help channel. Ask the provider what Aadhaar data is recorded, the purpose for which it is used, and how to correct or withdraw a record where the scheme rules allow it. Use Authentication History as an additional security check, not as a master inventory.

What you need before starting

  • Your 12-digit Aadhaar number and access to the mobile number registered with Aadhaar for OTP-based services.
  • The PAN, bank-account details, or scheme registration details belonging to the same person whose Aadhaar is being used.
  • Accurate demographic information. For PAN linking, UIDAI says the date of birth and gender must match exactly; names should also be consistent.
  • Access to the official portal, app, bank branch, or scheme office. Avoid agents who ask for your OTP or Aadhaar credentials.

The myAadhaar portal is login-based and usually asks for Aadhaar plus an OTP sent to the registered mobile number. Some online services can be used without that mobile number, so check the requirement shown for the particular service. Portal and app labels change; use the current labels displayed by the official service rather than relying on an old screenshot.

How to check Aadhaar–PAN linking status

The Income Tax Department’s e-Filing portal provides both the linking request and a separate pre-login status check. You do not need to treat a general UIDAI authentication entry as proof that PAN linking succeeded.

Check the status without signing in

  1. Open the official Income Tax Department e-Filing portal.
  2. Choose the quick link labelled “Link Aadhaar/View Status” or “Link Aadhaar Status”, depending on the current portal interface.
  3. Enter the PAN and Aadhaar numbers requested on the page.
  4. Submit the request and read the result. The portal can report successful validation, a request pending UIDAI validation, or failed validation.

A successful result means the Income Tax Department accepted the PAN–Aadhaar validation. It does not indicate that your bank account is seeded for DBT or that another government scheme has your Aadhaar.

If the request fails

  • Compare the date of birth and gender in PAN and Aadhaar. UIDAI says these must match exactly for this process.
  • Check the spelling and order of your name. A minor mismatch may allow Aadhaar OTP verification; a substantial mismatch can require a correction in Aadhaar or PAN before linking.
  • After making a correction, submit the linking request again. If the details now match but validation still fails, UIDAI advises contacting the Income Tax Department.

If the request is pending

A pending result means the request is awaiting UIDAI validation. Check again later rather than sending repeated requests, which can make it harder to identify the active request. Keep the acknowledgement or reference information shown by the portal.

How to seed a bank account for Aadhaar-based DBT

DBT is a benefit-delivery route, not a generic link between Aadhaar and every account you own. To receive an Aadhaar-based benefit in a bank account, the bank must record your consent and seed the account in the NPCI mapper.

Submit the bank mandate

  1. Contact the bank where the account is held, using its branch or the bank’s current Aadhaar-seeding channel.
  2. Request Aadhaar linking for DBT and complete the bank’s mandate and consent form.
  3. Provide the documents and verification requested by that bank. The bank submits the seeding information to the NPCI mapper.
  4. Ask the bank when the request should appear as active and retain the acknowledgement.

If you have several accounts, UIDAI says only one account receives Aadhaar-based DBT at a time. The active account is determined by the choice recorded in the mandate and the mapper’s current record. Linking Aadhaar to another account does not automatically mean every account can receive the same benefit.

Check the seeding status

Use the bank-seeding status route available through myAadhaar or NPCI’s BASE status service. UIDAI notes that the status retrieved through its route comes from NPCI; UIDAI does not store that information or take responsibility for its correctness.

A status showing the expected bank and an active mapping indicates that the mapper has a record for Aadhaar-based DBT. It does not by itself prove that you are eligible for a particular scheme, that a payment has been approved, or that a payment will arrive on a specific date. Those questions belong to the scheme department and the bank’s payment records.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When the bank status is missing or wrong

  • Contact the bank that accepted the mandate and ask it to verify the Aadhaar-seeding request and NPCI mapping.
  • If an old account is shown, submit a new mandate with the bank you want to receive DBT and ask how the earlier mapping will be replaced.
  • If the mapper status and the bank’s internal record disagree, request that the bank correct or resubmit the mapping. UIDAI directs residents to the responsible bank for such mismatches.

How government schemes use Aadhaar

There is no common “Link Aadhaar” button for all schemes. The implementing department decides whether Aadhaar is needed during enrolment, at the point of service, for periodic authentication, or not at all. Read the scheme’s current notice and use its own status page or helpdesk.

Enrolment in a scheme’s records

Some departments ask for Aadhaar while creating or updating a beneficiary record. A confirmation number, beneficiary ID, or department dashboard is the evidence that enrolment was accepted. A successful PAN link or bank mapper status does not substitute for this scheme-specific registration.

Authentication at delivery

UIDAI cites subsidised food through the public distribution system and MGNREGS worksite attendance as examples where Aadhaar authentication may be used when a person claims a service or records attendance. An authentication can verify identity at that moment; the department still decides eligibility, attendance, quantity, wage, or payment.

Receiving a benefit in a bank account

To receive a benefit through DBT, complete both sides of the process: meet the scheme’s eligibility and beneficiary requirements, and ensure the bank account selected for payment is correctly seeded where the scheme uses Aadhaar-based mapping. Ask the implementing department whether it pays by Aadhaar-based DBT, account number, or another method. Then ask the bank to trace a payment that the department says was released.

How to check Aadhaar authentication history

UIDAI lists Check Authentication History as a feature of its official Aadhaar app and current UIDAI service flow. Use the official app or UIDAI portal rather than an unauthorised app that asks for your Aadhaar credentials.

Set up the official Aadhaar app

The current app FAQ describes an enrolment flow that includes selecting a language, entering Aadhaar, accepting the terms and privacy policy, selecting the SIM, completing face authentication, and setting a six-digit PIN. Screens can change, so follow the labels shown in the current release.

Review events

  1. Open the official Aadhaar app or the current UIDAI service area.
  2. Sign in using the method displayed, such as the app PIN or an OTP to the registered mobile.
  3. Select Authentication History.
  4. Review entries for dates, service references, and the outcome fields that the current interface displays.

The official material confirms that Authentication History is available, but the retention period and every field displayed can change and should be verified in the current UIDAI help text. Do not infer a universal lookback period or assume that an empty period proves no department holds your Aadhaar.

If you see an event you do not recognise

  • Record the date, time, reference information, and result shown by UIDAI.
  • Contact the organisation identified by the event through its official customer-care or grievance channel and ask why authentication was attempted.
  • If the event appears fraudulent or involves a benefit account, notify UIDAI and the relevant department or bank using their official complaint process.
  • Never disclose an OTP, app PIN, or full credentials to someone who contacts you claiming to investigate the event.

Security: what an Aadhaar link does and does not allow

UIDAI describes Aadhaar as a random 12-digit number. Authentication may use biometrics, face authentication, or a mobile OTP, depending on the service. A number printed on a document is not the same thing as a successful authentication or a bank mandate.

UIDAI’s FAQ states: Just by knowing your Aadhaar number or Aadhaar linked bank account, no one can withdraw money from Aadhaar linked bank account. This is UIDAI’s specific statement about withdrawal based solely on that knowledge; it is not a guarantee that every form of identity misuse is impossible. Protect your registered mobile, bank credentials, debit card, biometric devices, and OTPs separately.

  • Use only official government, bank, and scheme portals or offices.
  • Check the web address and app publisher before entering Aadhaar or PAN.
  • Do not share OTPs, app PINs, internet-banking passwords, or debit-card PINs.
  • Download or print acknowledgements for PAN requests, bank mandates, and scheme applications.
  • Mask Aadhaar when a recipient does not need the full number, and ask why it is required before submitting it.

A practical investigation checklist

Use this sequence when you are unsure where Aadhaar has been used:

  1. Write down the exact service or benefit you are checking; “government services” is too broad for a single status search.
  2. Identify the organisation that operates it: the Income Tax Department for PAN, your bank for DBT seeding, or the scheme’s implementing department for a benefit.
  3. Use that organisation’s official status page, acknowledgement number, app, branch, or helpdesk.
  4. Check UIDAI Authentication History for authentication events that may explain a recent transaction or request.
  5. Compare the result with the correct evidence: PAN validation, NPCI mapper seeding, scheme enrolment, or an authentication event.
  6. Escalate a mismatch to the organisation that owns the record. UIDAI cannot correct a department’s beneficiary database or a bank’s NPCI mapping.

Common mistakes and their fixes

Problem Why it happens Appropriate fix
Assuming Authentication History lists every linked service Authentication events and service records are different systems Check each department’s portal and use history only to review authentication attempts
Checking PAN status on UIDAI PAN linking is administered by the Income Tax Department Use the e-Filing portal’s Link Aadhaar status service
Assuming a PAN link enables DBT PAN validation and bank seeding have different owners and purposes Submit a bank mandate and check the NPCI mapper status
Repeatedly resubmitting a pending PAN request UIDAI validation has not completed Wait, then check the existing request status
Bank account not receiving a benefit The account may not be the active mapper account, or the scheme may use another payment route Ask the bank to verify mapping and the department to confirm payment method and eligibility
Demographic mismatch during PAN linking PAN and Aadhaar records differ Correct the relevant record, then retry; contact the Income Tax Department if matching details still fail

What each check can tell you

A PAN status result answers one question: whether the Income Tax Department’s validation for those two identifiers succeeded, failed, or remains pending. An NPCI or myAadhaar seeding result answers a different question: which bank mapping is recorded for Aadhaar-based DBT at that time. A scheme portal answers whether that department accepted your enrolment, authentication, or benefit claim. Authentication History answers whether UIDAI recorded particular authentication events.

Keeping these meanings separate prevents a common error: treating one successful check as proof that every government system has the same Aadhaar information. There is no such universal status.
