Open Facebook’s Settings and Accounts Center, then look for Activity from other businesses. Meta announced in June 2026 that this is replacing the older Your activity off Meta technologies control in a phased rollout. The new setting controls how Meta uses activity that businesses have already shared—such as purchases or games played elsewhere—for personalized ads, Feed recommendations and some AI responses. It is not a universal tracker blocker and does not erase the records held by the websites or apps involved.
What changed in 2026
Meta is retiring, or has begun retiring, the setting formerly called Your activity off Meta technologies. That older tool let people review activity businesses had sent to Meta, clear the activity associated with their account and, under the former interface, disconnect future activity. Meta’s June 2026 announcement says the replacement is an expanded Activity from other businesses setting.

Meta describes the expanded setting as a choice about use: activity that businesses already share can be used to personalize advertising and, with the expanded control, other content such as Feed recommendations and AI responses. Meta says, “We aren’t collecting any new data as part of this update.” That is Meta’s description of this change, not an independent finding that all data collection by Meta or other companies has stopped.

The rollout is phased. Meta said the changes would take effect in the United States and a number of other countries in the month after its June 2026 announcement, with additional countries later. The announcement did not publish a complete country schedule. Your account may therefore show a different label, an older control or no equivalent setting yet.

What you need before changing the setting
This is an account-settings task, not a purchase. You need access to the Facebook account whose preferences you want to change, and you may need to be signed in before Meta shows the relevant Help Center explanation. The setting does not require a VPN, privacy subscription, hardware, browser extension or paid software. Those products can have other uses, but none is required to reach the Accounts Center control.
Use the account you actually use for Facebook personalization. If you manage several profiles, pages or linked Instagram accounts, check which account is active before saving a choice. Meta has exposed related controls through Accounts Center across Facebook, Instagram and Messenger, but the exact presentation can differ by service, app version and market.
Take a screenshot or note the wording shown on your account if the explanation matters to you. Meta is changing the labels, and a later screen may describe the same preference differently. Keep the note for your own records; it does not change what Meta or an outside business stores.

| Question | What the current control addresses | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| What information is involved? | Activity that businesses share with Meta from their websites or apps, including examples Meta has described such as purchases or games played elsewhere. | It does not mean every off-Facebook event is captured, nor does it describe all data a business keeps about you. |
| What is the decision? | Whether Meta uses shared activity to personalize ads and other content under the expanded setting. | It is not a promise that the outside business will stop collecting information or that no information will be transmitted. |
| What happens to the source records? | Meta’s account-level use of information can be changed when the option is available. | Turning the option off does not delete records from a retailer, game publisher, app developer or advertising partner. |
| Is it universal? | The setting applies to the Meta account and controls covered activity that businesses share with Meta. | It is not a complete browser-tracking, cookie, fingerprinting or cross-company blocking system. |
Businesses can send information through tools such as the Facebook Pixel and Facebook Login, according to Meta’s earlier explanation of off-platform activity. Those tools are part of a business’s integration with Meta; the account setting is a choice about how Meta uses information it receives. It should not be described as proof that the integration has been removed.
The practical distinction is between transmission and use. A retailer may still send an event through its configured integration, while your Meta preference limits whether Meta applies that shared event to personalization. The retailer’s own analytics, fraud checks, order management and advertising systems can continue under its policies. Changing one side of that relationship does not automatically rewrite the other side.
How to find “Activity from other businesses”
Exact labels and clicks are not confirmed for every account because Meta is changing the interface and requiring login for some current Help Center pages. Use the following route as a starting point rather than a guaranteed, worldwide path.
- Sign in to Facebook. Open the Facebook menu and choose Settings or Settings & privacy, depending on the interface shown to you.
- Open Accounts Center. Meta has used Accounts Center to expose related account and data controls from Facebook, Instagram and Messenger settings.
- Search the settings. Look for Activity from other businesses. If your account still shows Your activity off Meta technologies, read the page’s notice carefully: Meta announced that the older control is being discontinued or replaced, so its options may not represent the final interface.
- Read the explanation before changing the switch. The relevant page should explain whether shared activity may be used for personalized ads and other content. The wording and available choices can vary during the rollout.
- Choose the least-use option you want. If Meta presents a control to limit use for personalization, select it and confirm any prompt. Do not assume that a confirmation removes data from the originating business.
- Check again later if the option is missing. Meta said the rollout is phased. A missing setting can reflect your country, account, app version or rollout status rather than a mistake in your search.
If you use Facebook through a browser, the same account control may be reachable through the web version of Settings. In the mobile app, menu names and placement can differ. Do not rely on an old tutorial that tells you to use a permanently available Disconnect future activity toggle; that was the label associated with the former tool, not a current universal guarantee.

Check the account and scope
Before confirming, read whether the page refers to ads only or to ads plus other content. Meta’s announcement describes the expanded setting as covering Feed recommendations and some AI responses in addition to advertising. If the screen lists linked accounts, verify that you are changing the intended account rather than assuming a Facebook change applies identically to every profile.
If you cannot find the setting
The old name is still visible
Meta may be serving the former page while your account is waiting for the new rollout. You can review the notice and available choices, but do not infer that every option described in an older article remains supported everywhere.
There is no related setting
Search Accounts Center for the exact phrase Activity from other businesses, then check Meta’s current Help Center while signed in. Meta’s announcement said more countries would follow the initial rollout, but it did not give a complete schedule, so a setting can be unavailable in your market at this time.
The label differs slightly
Use the surrounding explanation to identify the relevant control. Meta’s names have changed from “off Meta technologies” to “other businesses,” and translations or staged interface experiments can produce different wording.
The setting appears to save but activity continues elsewhere
That result is not necessarily a failure. The option concerns Meta’s use of activity already shared for personalization. The originating website or app can retain its own account, purchase, advertising or analytics records, and other tracking systems may operate independently.
You are asked to log in again
A login prompt does not by itself indicate that the setting is unavailable. Meta’s current Help Center link may require an authenticated session, so sign in through the official Facebook or Accounts Center interface and avoid entering credentials on links copied from unofficial tutorials.
What “off Facebook” activity usually means
When you visit a participating website, use an app or sign in with a Meta-related tool, the business may send events to Meta. Meta’s earlier description used Facebook Pixel and Facebook Login as examples. Events can include actions such as viewing a product, completing a purchase or playing a game, depending on what the business has implemented and what information it sends.
That flow has several parties and several records:
- The outside business controls its site or app and may keep information in its own systems.
- The integration sends selected events or identifiers to Meta under the business’s implementation.
- Meta associates or processes information according to its policies and the controls available for your account.
- Your account setting changes a covered choice about Meta’s use of shared activity; it does not rewrite the outside business’s logs.
This distinction explains why changing the Facebook setting is worthwhile for personalization without being equivalent to blocking every third-party request. It also explains why a purchase history might remain visible in a retailer’s account after you change a Meta preference.

| Control | Status | Main function | How to describe it now |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your activity off Meta technologies | Being retired or replaced under Meta’s June 2026 announcement | Formerly offered a summary of shared activity and options to clear activity or disconnect future activity. | Historical background only; availability is not universal or guaranteed. |
| Activity from other businesses | Meta’s announced replacement, rolling out in phases | Controls Meta’s use of activity businesses already share for personalized ads and other content, as described by Meta. | Look for this name in Accounts Center and follow the explanation shown for your account. |
The two controls are not competing products. They represent a change in what Meta emphasizes: the former page centered on reviewing, clearing and disconnecting shared activity, while the announced replacement centers on whether Meta uses that activity to personalize experiences.
“Clear activity” in the former interface should not be confused with deletion from a source business. It described activity associated with the Meta account, whereas a shop’s invoice, game profile or customer-support record could remain with that company. The announced replacement also should not be marketed as a historical reset unless the screen explicitly offers one.
What else you can do to reduce exposure
The Accounts Center choice is the directly relevant Facebook control. You can also reduce information at the source, although these actions are separate from the Meta setting and do not guarantee that a business has never sent an event.
Review the privacy choices on each site or app
Look for privacy, advertising, cookie or account-data controls on the website or in the app that collected the activity. Request deletion from that business if its policy and local law provide such a process. A Meta setting cannot delete the business’s independent records.

When a site offers several sign-in methods, consider whether linking it to your Meta account is necessary. Removing an account connection can change future access or sharing, but the site may still retain information from earlier activity. Read the site’s explanation before disconnecting anything you rely on.
Use browser privacy controls for browser-level tracking
Cookie restrictions, anti-tracking features and content blockers may reduce some browser requests. Their behavior depends on the browser, device, site and configuration. They are not established by Meta’s announcement as a substitute for the Accounts Center choice and should not be presented as a complete block on business-to-Meta sharing.
Separate account choices from device permissions
Phone permissions for location, contacts, photos or notifications address device access, not necessarily activity a website sends through its own integration. Review both categories when investigating a particular app.
Do not buy a product just for this change
No physical product or paid service is needed to alter the Meta preference. A privacy screen, webcam cover, VPN or generic privacy book does not change the Accounts Center setting. Browser software may reduce some browser-level requests, but it is a separate choice and is not a guaranteed replacement for Meta’s account control.

Independent studies provide context, but their numbers are time- and method-specific. A 2022 study by Patricia Arias-Cabarcos, Saina Khalili and Thorsten Strufe exposed 100 participants to Facebook’s off-platform activity dashboard. Participants were surprised by the amount of data shown and became more likely to take protective measures. That sample describes reactions among those 100 participants; it is not a population-wide estimate and did not evaluate the 2026 replacement setting.
A separate 2022 paper, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Facebook Web Tracking with Invisible Pixels and Click IDs, reported that 23% of the 10,000 most popular websites examined used the technology studied by its authors. The figure is specific to that sample, method and date. It should not be read as a current percentage for all websites or as a measurement of every kind of Facebook tracking.
These studies help explain why people look for account controls, but neither proves what your particular websites sent to Meta nor predicts which options your account will display in the phased 2026 rollout.

- Expecting deletion from every company: a Meta preference does not erase a retailer’s order history or an app’s account records.
- Calling it a universal opt-out: the setting governs Meta’s use of covered shared activity, not all cookies, pixels, identifiers or data transfers.
- Following an obsolete path exactly: “Disconnect future activity” belonged to the former tool and may not be available after the replacement reaches your account.
- Assuming one country’s interface applies everywhere: Meta described an initial United States rollout and a number of other countries, followed by more markets, without publishing a complete schedule.
- Treating a browser blocker as a guaranteed replacement: browser tools can address some web requests but do not establish how Meta handles information businesses already shared.
- Interpreting continued ads as proof the control failed: advertising can be based on other signals, including activity within Facebook or information from other sources.
- Assuming the setting covers every linked service: read the account and product scope displayed on screen rather than inferring that every Meta property changed at once.
What to expect after changing the preference
The immediate result should be a change in how Meta applies the covered activity to personalization, according to the explanation shown in your Accounts Center. You may still see advertisements, recommendations or AI responses; the setting is not an instruction to stop showing all personalized content. Nor does it promise that every previously processed event disappears instantly.
Keep a note of the date you changed the setting and the wording Meta displayed if you need to question a result. If the control later moves, compare the new explanation with the earlier one rather than relying on a screenshot or an old help article. Meta’s interface and rollout status can change by account and market.

Bottom line for Facebook users
Find Activity from other businesses in Facebook’s Accounts Center and use the available option to limit Meta’s personalization of ads and other content from activity that outside businesses share. Treat the control as an account-level use preference—not a promise that websites stop collecting data, that integrations stop sending events, or that existing business records are deleted. If you cannot see it, check again through Accounts Center or Meta’s signed-in Help Center because the 2026 rollout is phased.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does turning off Activity from other businesses stop Facebook from tracking me everywhere?
No. It addresses Meta’s use of activity that businesses have already shared for personalization. It does not guarantee that an outside site stops collecting information, that no event is transmitted, or that cookies, pixels and other tracking systems stop operating.
Will this delete my purchases or game history from the company that collected it?
No. A retailer, game publisher or app developer can retain its own account, order, analytics or advertising records. Request deletion from that business separately when its policy and applicable law allow it.
Why do I still see personalized ads after changing the option?
The setting does not remove every personalization signal. Ads may use activity within Facebook, information from other sources or data that is outside the covered shared activity. Continued ads alone do not prove the preference failed.
Is the old Disconnect future activity button still available?
It was part of the former Your activity off Meta technologies tool. Meta announced that tool is being retired or replaced, so the button is not a current universal option. Follow the explanation shown in your account instead.
Why cannot I find Activity from other businesses?
Meta described a phased rollout beginning in the United States and a number of other countries, with more to follow, but did not publish a complete schedule. Your market, account, app version or rollout status may explain the difference.
Do I have to pay for a privacy tool to change this setting?
No. The change is an account-settings task. A browser privacy tool may serve a separate purpose, but it is not established as a complete substitute for Meta’s Accounts Center control.

Does Facebook Pixel or Facebook Login disappear when I change the preference?
Not necessarily. Those are examples of business integrations that can send information to Meta. The account preference concerns Meta’s use of shared activity and should not be described as removing the integration itself.
Should I change the setting in Facebook, Instagram or Messenger?
Start from the service you use and open Accounts Center. Meta has made related controls available through Facebook, Instagram and Messenger settings, but menu labels and availability can differ, so follow the screen shown for your account.
The Bottom Line
Use Accounts Center to look for Activity from other businesses. It can limit Meta’s use of shared off-site activity for personalization, but it cannot erase outside-business records or guarantee that no data is transmitted.
