On Android 14 and newer, open Settings > Security and privacy > Privacy controls > Health Connect. On Android 13 and older, open or install the Health Connect app and reach it through Settings > Apps > All apps > Health Connect. In Health Connect, choose Permissions and data > App permissions, select an app, and disable all access or only the data types and read/write permissions it does not need.
Also check the app’s ordinary Android permissions under its entry in Settings > Apps. Revoking permission blocks future access through that permission, but it does not automatically erase data already stored in Health Connect or copies that another app or device retained.

Android has two separate permission surfaces
Health information can be exposed through two different control systems. Treating one as a complete privacy check can leave the other unchanged.
| Control surface | What it governs | What changing it does |
|---|---|---|
| Health Connect | Shared health data, managed per app, data type, and read or write direction | Controls whether a connected app can read data from or write data to Health Connect |
| Android app permissions | Phone features and sensors such as physical activity, location, camera, microphone, or other permissions an app requests | Controls the app’s direct access to those Android features; it is separate from Health Connect access |
Google describes the Health Connect model plainly: “You control which apps have access to your data.” An app may need Health Connect permission to read a workout record while separately requesting Android permission to use a motion sensor during a workout. Review both lists and keep only the access that matches a feature you actually use.

Find Health Connect on your Android version
| Android version | Where to open Health Connect | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Android 14 and newer | Settings > Security and privacy > Privacy controls > Health Connect | Health Connect is integrated into Settings. Labels can vary by manufacturer. |
| Android 13 and older | Install or open the Health Connect app, then use Settings > Apps > All apps > Health Connect if you need its app page | Health Connect is handled as an app. Your device maker may use slightly different menu names. |
If a menu label does not match exactly, use Settings search for Health Connect. Do not confuse the Health Connect app page with the individual health app whose access you are trying to change.
Revoke or narrow a health app’s Health Connect access
These steps let you remove every Health Connect permission or preserve a narrower function, such as allowing a fitness app to write new workouts without reading your history.
- Open Health Connect using the route for your Android version.
- Tap Permissions and data > App permissions.
- Select the health, fitness, medical, or other connected app you want to review.
- To cut off all Health Connect access, turn Allow all off. This revokes the app’s read and write permissions.
- For a narrower change, leave the app connected and disable only the data categories it does not need. Where shown, turn off read access, write access, or both for each category.
- Return to the app-permissions list and repeat the review for every connected app, not only the one that prompted your concern.
For a complete reset, use Remove access for all apps in the app-permissions area. That revokes all Health Connect connections at once; you can reconnect individual apps later and grant only the categories they require.
Choose the smallest useful permission set
Read and write permissions serve different purposes. Read access lets an app retrieve records already in Health Connect. Write access lets it add records. An app that only imports data from a wearable may need read permission for selected categories but no write permission. An app that records your exercise may need write permission and no historical read permission. The exact categories shown depend on the app and your Android build, so decide from the feature you want rather than enabling every category by default.
Make the decision one data type at a time. For example, an app that counts steps may not need access to sleep, nutrition, heart-rate, or medical records. A dashboard that displays a daily summary may need read access but not permission to create or edit records. If an app offers several functions, grant the categories for the function you use and leave optional categories off. You can return to this screen later if a feature genuinely stops working.
See which apps accessed data recently
A current permission list does not tell you whether an app used its permission yesterday. In Health Connect, open Recent Access > See all recent access. The list covers the previous 24 hours and shows apps that accessed or stored data during that period.
- Open Health Connect.
- Tap Recent Access.
- Choose See all recent access to inspect the entries.
- If an unfamiliar app appears, open Permissions and data > App permissions, select it, and disable its access.
For a category-by-category view, use the data browser in Health Connect. It can show which apps currently have access to a data type and which no longer do. Recent Access is a short activity window, not a complete historical audit of every access an app has ever made. An app that has permission but has not used it during the last day may not appear in that list.

Review the app’s ordinary Android permissions
Health Connect permissions do not replace Android’s normal app-permission controls. An app can still request direct access to phone features or sensors even after you change its Health Connect settings.
- Open the phone’s Settings.
- Tap Apps, find the health app, and open its app page.
- Tap Permissions.
- Review each allowed permission against the feature you intend to keep.
- Tap a permission and choose the least permissive option that still supports that feature, or deny it when you do not use the feature.
Google’s help route for its Google Health app is Settings > Apps > Health > Permissions. Your manufacturer may call the menus App permissions, place them under Privacy, or use different names for sensor permissions. The principle is the same: check the app’s direct sensor and phone access separately from Health Connect.
These settings answer a different question from Health Connect. Denying location, activity recognition, camera, or microphone access can stop live collection by the app, but it does not necessarily remove records already in Health Connect. Conversely, turning off Health Connect access does not automatically stop an app from requesting a sensor directly for a live feature. Check both surfaces whenever you are troubleshooting unexpected collection.
Revoking access does not delete data
Turning off a permission is a forward-looking control. It prevents future reads or writes through that permission, but it is not a deletion command.
| Action | What it changes | What it does not guarantee |
|---|---|---|
| Turn off an app’s Health Connect permission | Stops that app from using the revoked Health Connect access in the future | It does not erase records already in Health Connect or copies the app already made |
| Remove all app access | Revokes every connected app’s Health Connect permissions | It does not recall data previously exported to another service or device |
| Delete Health Connect data | Removes selected categories or entries from Health Connect’s on-device database | It may not remove copies held by connected apps, cloud services, or other devices |
| Delete data in the connected app | Removes the copy stored under that app’s own controls, when the app offers deletion | It does not automatically remove the same records from Health Connect or another service |
Health Connect stores its database on the device, but a connected app may have synchronized or retained its own copy. If your goal is erasure, revoke access first, then use the app’s privacy or account controls to delete its copy. Delete the relevant categories or entries in Health Connect separately when appropriate. Google states that individual medical-record entries cannot be deleted from Health Connect, even though other categories or entries can be removed.
Deletion is therefore a two- or three-place task: Health Connect, the connected app’s account or cloud, and any other device that synchronized the information. Read the app’s wording carefully; “disconnect,” “stop syncing,” and “delete account data” can be separate controls. Keep a note of which service you changed so you can verify the result in each location.
Know the 30-day access window and the health-record exception
When you grant a connected app permission, Google’s setup guidance says the app can access the previous 30 days of ordinary health data and new data written after permission is granted. That 30-day limit does not apply to health records. With the required permission, an app can access historical medical data.

The window describes what Health Connect makes available through the connection; it does not control what the service keeps afterward. A connected service may retain a copy of data it received. If you later revoke permission, that copy can remain in the service until you delete it there.
This distinction matters when granting access briefly. A short-lived connection can still expose up to the available 30-day history of ordinary data at the moment you approve it, while medical records may be historical. If you do not want that history shared, narrow or deny the relevant read categories before connecting, rather than relying on revocation afterward.
A privacy-tightening workflow that avoids surprises
- Inventory connections. In Permissions and data > App permissions, note every app listed, including apps you no longer use.
- Check activity. Use Recent Access > See all recent access to identify apps that accessed or stored data in the last 24 hours.
- Decide the required function. For each app, write down whether it needs to read history, write new records, or do both.
- Narrow Health Connect access. Disable unnecessary data categories and read or write directions instead of accepting Allow all.
- Review direct Android permissions. Open the app’s Settings > Apps > [app] > Permissions page and remove sensor or phone-feature access unrelated to the feature you keep.
- Delete stored copies when necessary. Use the app’s own privacy controls and Health Connect’s data controls independently; one deletion does not remove the other copy.
- Recheck after an update. If an app adds a feature or asks for permission again, compare the request with the function you want before granting it.
After changing permissions, test the one feature you intended to preserve. A workout recorder should still be able to save a new workout if write access and its required sensor permission remain enabled. A history viewer should show only the categories you allowed. Testing prevents the common mistake of restoring Allow all simply because one optional feature was disabled.
Common situations and the least-access choice
You only want an app to record new workouts
In Health Connect, keep write permission for the workout-related category if it is offered, and turn off read permissions and unrelated categories. In Android’s app-permission page, keep only the sensor access needed to detect the workout. This prevents the app from importing older records through Health Connect while preserving its recording feature.
You want an app to display your history but not add records
Keep read permission for the specific categories the app displays and disable write permission. If the app needs direct sensor access only while collecting a live measurement, deny that sensor permission when you are not using the measurement feature, then grant it temporarily when needed.

Turn off its Health Connect access and review its Android permissions. Then look in the app’s privacy or account settings for a way to delete its stored copy. Removing the connection alone does not prove that the app erased data it previously received.
You want to disconnect every app temporarily
Use Remove access for all apps in Health Connect. This is faster than opening each app individually, but it also interrupts apps you still rely on. Reconnect them one at a time and grant only the required categories.

You are lending or replacing a phone
First remove app access in Health Connect and review direct Android permissions. Then delete Health Connect categories or entries if appropriate and use each connected service’s account controls to remove synchronized copies. Because Health Connect’s database is on-device, deleting local data addresses that device only; it does not confirm deletion from another phone or service.

The Health Connect option is missing
On Android 14 and newer, search Settings for Health Connect and check the Security and privacy > Privacy controls area. On Android 13 and older, confirm that the Health Connect app is installed or open, then look under Settings > Apps > All apps. Manufacturer software can rename or rearrange these entries.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →An app still shows old health information after access is revoked
Revocation stops future Health Connect access; it does not erase data the app already copied. Use the app’s own privacy or account controls to remove its copy. Also check whether another device or service still stores the information.
The app asks for permission again
An app can request access when a feature requires it. Grant only the individual category and read or write direction needed for that feature. If the request does not match anything you use, deny it and leave the existing permissions disabled.
You use a work profile
Health Connect does not support Android Work Profiles. Health data managed inside a work profile may therefore follow different administrative controls, and the personal-profile Health Connect settings may not govern it.
Sensor permission names differ on a newer phone
Android 16-targeting apps must use more specific health permissions for certain body-sensor access under Google Play policy guidance. That developer requirement can result in more narrowly named permissions on newer devices. Evaluate each permission by the feature and sensor it describes rather than assuming two similarly named entries are identical.
You cannot remove one medical-record entry
Health Connect supports deletion of categories or entries for much of its data, but Google says individual medical-record entries cannot be deleted there. If a medical record must be removed, check the service or device that supplied or retained it and use that service’s available controls.

Final checklist
- Open Health Connect using the route for your Android version.
- Inspect Permissions and data > App permissions for every connected app.
- Turn off Allow all or disable only unneeded categories and read or write directions.
- Check Recent Access > See all recent access for the last 24 hours.
- Review the app’s separate Android permissions under Settings > Apps > [app] > Permissions.
- Remember that revocation blocks future access but does not delete Health Connect data or copies elsewhere.
- Use Health Connect’s deletion controls and the app’s own deletion controls separately when you need erasure.
- Remember that ordinary data may include the previous 30 days when access is granted, while health records can be historical.
- Recheck permissions after app or Android updates and after reconnecting a service.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does turning off Health Connect access delete my health data?
No. It blocks future reads or writes through that connection. Data already in Health Connect and copies retained by an app, cloud service, or another device must be deleted separately.
Can I let an app write workouts but not read my history?
Usually, yes. In Permissions and data > App permissions, keep write access for the relevant workout category and disable read access and unrelated categories, then keep only the Android sensor permission needed to record the workout.
How far back can a newly connected app read?
Google’s setup guidance says ordinary health data can include the previous 30 days plus new data written after permission is granted. Health records are an exception and can include historical medical data when permitted.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
What does Recent Access show?
Recent Access > See all recent access shows apps that accessed or stored Health Connect data during the previous 24 hours. It is not a complete lifetime access history.
Why check Android app permissions if I already changed Health Connect?
They control different things. Health Connect governs shared health-data read and write access, while Android permissions govern direct access to sensors and phone features such as activity, location, camera, or microphone.
Can I revoke every connection at once?
Yes. Use Remove access for all apps in Health Connect. This revokes all connections, so reconnect only the apps you still need.
Will deleting Health Connect data delete an app’s copy?
Not necessarily. Health Connect deletion affects its on-device database. A connected app or device may retain a synchronized copy, which requires deletion through that service’s own controls.
Recommended Free Tools
Does Health Connect work in an Android Work Profile?
No. Health Connect does not support Android Work Profiles, so work-profile health data may be governed by different administrative controls.
The Bottom Line
Start in Health Connect, inspect every connected app, and replace Allow all with only the data categories and read/write directions each feature needs. Then review the app’s ordinary Android permissions for direct sensor access. Use Recent Access to check the previous 24 hours, and remember that revoking access stops future sharing but does not erase Health Connect records or copies already held elsewhere.
