Choose the right WordPress payment setup
WordPress itself does not expose every payment provider or method. Your form plugin and its gateway integrations determine what can be shown to a customer. Before building the form, define the transaction and checkout model.

Standalone payment forms
Payment Page describes itself as a standalone form plugin that does not require a WooCommerce cart or product catalog. Its documented flow is to install and activate the plugin, connect Stripe, select and customize a template, then place the form on a page with a shortcode or Elementor widget. Treat this as that product’s workflow, not a rule for every form plugin.
When this model makes sense
- You need a focused payment or donation page rather than a product catalog.
- You want an embedded form or a page-level payment experience.
- You can meet the gateway’s account, currency, country and security requirements without WooCommerce order features.
Payment options inside a form builder
Existing form builders can add payment fields to forms, but the exact choices depend on the plugin and plan.

Confirm the current vendor documentation for add-on availability, paid-plan restrictions, supported currencies, recurring billing and the way an incomplete or cancelled payment is reported to the form.
WooCommerce checkout gateways
Use WooCommerce gateway extensions when the payment is part of a store checkout rather than an isolated form. The WooCommerce Stripe Payment Gateway listing describes Stripe-supported methods for WooCommerce. The WooCommerce PayPal Payments listing documents connecting a PayPal account and activating PayPal in WooCommerce settings. These extensions are not interchangeable with standalone form plugins: they expect WooCommerce’s cart, order and checkout flow.

Why users see different payment methods
A method appearing in a plugin’s feature list does not guarantee that every visitor will see it. Availability can change with:
- The connected gateway account and whether that account is approved for the method.
- Merchant and customer country or region.
- Transaction currency and, for some methods, the amount or recurring schedule.
- One-time, subscription, donation or order form logic.
- Browser, device and wallet prerequisites (for example, a wallet may only appear on a compatible device).
- Your plugin edition, add-ons and plan.
Test with the same currency, account mode and form type you will use in production. Check the gateway dashboard and plugin documentation when a method is missing rather than adding a second plugin at random.

Documented example: create a Stripe form with Payment Page
The Payment Page listing states these minimum requirements: WordPress 6.1 or newer, PHP 7.4 or newer, MySQL 5.6 or newer or MariaDB 10 or newer, cURL for the Stripe API, and an SSL certificate for payments. Recheck the live listing before deployment because requirements and features can change.
- Install the plugin from WordPress.org or upload its ZIP file in the WordPress admin.
- Activate the plugin.
- Connect the Stripe account that should receive the payments.
- Choose a template and customize its fields, amount and available payment settings.
- Publish the form on a page with the plugin’s shortcode or its Elementor widget.
After publishing, complete a controlled test payment and verify the result in both WordPress and Stripe. Do not assume that a successful form submission means a captured payment unless the gateway status confirms it.

Documented example: enable PayPal in WooCommerce
For the WooCommerce PayPal Payments extension, the listing describes this sequence:
- Activate the plugin.
- Open WooCommerce > Settings > Payments.
- Select PayPal and complete account activation.
- Enable the PayPal features you want to offer.
- Save the settings.
Run a test order through the complete checkout, including cancellation and return paths, before making the gateway available to customers.

Checklist before publishing the form
- Decide whether the page is standalone or part of WooCommerce checkout.
- Confirm the gateway account is connected in the correct mode and region.
- Set the currency and verify each desired method supports it.
- Check whether recurring payments, donations or dynamic amounts require a different integration or plan.
- Verify SSL, PHP, WordPress and database requirements for the selected plugin.
- Test on the browsers and devices your customers use.
- Confirm success, failure, cancellation, refund and email notifications.
- Review the plugin’s current documentation immediately before launch; listings and plan limits can change.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I show Stripe and PayPal on the same WordPress form?
Only if the selected form plugin or its add-ons support both gateways in the same form. Check the plugin’s current documentation and plan requirements; support is not universal.
Why is a payment method missing from my form?
Check the connected account, country, currency, one-time or recurring configuration, browser or device eligibility, and your plugin plan. The gateway may not approve that method for the account or context.

Pick the form model first, then choose a plugin whose documented integrations match your gateway, transaction type and audience. Connect the account, enable the methods it qualifies for, and test the full payment lifecycle before launch.
