Gemini offers two different ways to make calls: it can place a regular call through the Android Phone app, or—on eligible devices and accounts—call a business to handle certain tasks such as checking availability or arranging an appointment. The agentic business-calling feature has much stricter requirements and gives you a chance to review what Gemini will share before it calls.
Choose the kind of call you need

These are separate features. Having ordinary Gemini calling set up does not mean the agentic feature is available on your device or account.

Check eligibility before trying an agentic call
- You must be in the United States and at least 18, and use a Pixel 11 with a US SIM.
- You need a signed-in Gemini mobile app, a Google AI subscription, the public beta Phone by Google app, the latest Gemini app, and English as the device language.
- Google says access is rolling out gradually. Meeting the listed conditions does not guarantee that the feature will already appear for you.
Requirements can change. Check Google Gemini Apps Help for the current list before relying on the feature. A Pixel 11 alone is not sufficient to ensure access.

Prepare and review the request
- State the task and relevant details. Tell Gemini what you want the business to do or find out, and include useful specifics such as dates, times, preferences, and acceptable alternatives. For example, ask whether a restaurant has a table at a particular time or request a quote from a local service provider.
- Read the call summary. Before the agentic call starts, review the number Gemini plans to call and the information it proposes to share. Google says you must agree to that information before the call begins.
- Decide whether to proceed. If the number or proposed details are wrong, do not authorize the call. Adjust the request or cancel it rather than letting Gemini share information you did not intend to provide.
Monitor the call and take over if needed
Google says you can cancel before the business answers, follow the live transcript or audio while the call is in progress, and take over the conversation. While you monitor, your microphone is muted by default. Taking over unmutes it, and Gemini tells the other party that it is leaving the call. These controls are documented for agentic business calls, not as a general guarantee for ordinary Phone app calls.

Know the limits of agentic calls
Agentic calls use your device’s mobile network and phone number, so standard carrier rates apply. Google limits the feature to US numbers and says daily limits apply. It cannot make emergency calls, payments or other financial transactions, share sensitive personal information, or make telemarketing calls.
For ordinary Phone app calling, Google separately warns not to use Gemini to contact emergency services. Place an emergency call directly with your device’s calling app.

Understand what Google says about disclosure and call data
Google says Gemini begins every agentic call by identifying itself and explaining that the call is recorded and made on your behalf, while stating your name. In Google’s words: “Gemini starts every call by disclosing that it’s an AI assistant from Google calling on a recorded line on your behalf, stating your name.” Depending on the task, the details presented for your review may include your name, email address, phone number, or other relevant information. Google describes these practices in its agentic-calling help page and Gemini Apps Privacy Hub.
Google says it uses agentic-call transcripts to generate summaries and show past calling activity in Gemini. It also says a transcript and audio recording are saved locally in the Phone by Google call history, and that the audio recordings and transcripts are not used to train its AI models. These statements apply to the documented agentic-calling feature; they should not be assumed to describe every call made through the Phone app.

Set up ordinary calling through the Android Phone app
For a conventional call, Google’s documented integration uses the device’s calling app. The prerequisites are an Android phone or tablet, an active mobile plan, the Gemini mobile app, and permission for the Google app to access the Phone app. Contacts and call-log permissions can help Gemini identify whom you mean.
- In Gemini, open Settings and then Connected Apps.
- Check that the Phone app connection is available and enabled, and grant the Google app the Phone permission when prompted. Google’s Android calling guide provides the current steps and permission details.
- Ask Gemini to call a contact, business, or phone number. The call is placed through the device’s calling app.
You can disconnect the integration in Connected Apps settings. Google also documents a setting controlling whether Gemini may place calls and send messages while the phone is locked. Some requests that rely on other Google services may not work when Keep Activity is off. Connected-app availability can vary; consult Google’s Connected Apps help for details.

Which option should you use?
- Use Phone app calling when you want Gemini to place a straightforward call to a person or number through your Android device.
- Use agentic business calling when you are eligible and want Gemini to handle a supported, bounded business task. Review the destination and information to be shared, then stay available to monitor or take over.
