For a normal aircraft landing in GTA 5, check your configured vehicle controls, lower the landing gear, and approach steadily with the aircraft level at touchdown. If you mean the cargo plane in Trevor’s “Minor Turbulence” mission, the sequence ends with a forced bailout after fighter jets attack; it is not a conventional runway-landing challenge.
Land a normal plane in GTA 5
- Check your vehicle controls. Enter a vehicle, open the Pause Menu, and go to Settings to view the vehicle controls. Rockstar says this display shows the controls for your setup. Changing controls while in a vehicle also affects on-foot controls, and vice versa. See Rockstar Support’s vehicle-controls instructions.
- Lower the landing gear. The official GTA V manual identifies landing gear as an aircraft control. Use the button shown in your in-game control display; bindings can vary by platform and configuration.
- Make a steady approach. Keep the plane level as you approach the runway and avoid sharp turns or abrupt pitching just before touchdown. The manual notes that a higher Flying Stat helps the character fly and land more smoothly. Flying more raises the stat, and the manual recommends Pilot School.
What happens in “Minor Turbulence”
Trevor takes control of a Merryweather cargo plane and heads toward McKenzie Field, but fighter jets attack the aircraft. The mission walkthrough describes Trevor bailing out rather than landing the plane on a runway. It does not establish an alternative successful runway landing, so treat the attack as an escape sequence, not a normal landing task. See the “Minor Turbulence” walkthrough.

Escape from the cargo plane
Follow the mission’s bailout sequence and gain altitude before leaving the aircraft, as the walkthrough advises. If you are pursuing the optional “Four Wheel Flier” objective, exit in the Mesa and then parachute to safety.
Why the controls may not match a guide
Rockstar’s control article was last updated February 29, 2024. The manual confirms that aircraft have a landing-gear control, but the available sources do not establish one current button mapping that covers every PC, PlayStation, and Xbox setup. Use the in-game vehicle-controls display for your platform and configuration rather than relying on a universal button list.
