Use kick for an immediate, temporary disconnect, ban to disconnect a player and block future connections, and unban to remove that block. In the server console, enter commands without a leading slash. In Hytale in-game chat, put / before the command. The same player argument is used in both places.

Hytale moderation commands at a glance
This table gives the exact forms documented for a Hytale server. Replace <playername> with the target’s player name. The bracketed reason on a ban is optional and may contain multiple words.

Do not put a slash in a console command. A slash is the chat prefix that tells the in-game command parser to execute a command.

Choose the action that matches the problem
Kick: remove someone for the current session
A kick is a temporary removal. It ends the player’s current connection but does not create a lasting access restriction, so the player can attempt to join again. Use it for a one-off disruption, a player who needs to reconnect, or a situation where you want to stop activity without imposing a continuing penalty.
Ban: stop current and future connections
A ban is an access-control decision. Hytale stores the ban, disconnects the target if they are online, and checks the stored restriction when that player tries to connect later. Add a concise reason when your moderation process requires an explanation; the reason is optional and can contain more than one word.
Unban: remove the stored restriction
An unban removes the stored ban so the player can be considered for a later connection. It does not reconnect someone automatically and does not kick or otherwise alter a player who is already online. The restriction is enforced at connection time, so an affected player must try joining again after the unban.
Before running a command
Confirm the target identity
Use the exact player name accepted by your server. Hytale’s access-control argument is documented as a GameProfile, which means a UUID or other profile identifier can be used where that argument is accepted. A profile identifier is useful when names are similar, a player has changed their displayed name, or you need to avoid acting on the wrong person.
- Copy the name or profile identifier carefully, including capitalization and spelling as presented by the server.
- Check that you are acting on the intended account before applying a persistent ban.
- For a dispute, record the identifier and the reason in your moderation log before changing access.
Decide where you are typing
The console and in-game chat use the same command names but different prefixes. The console expects the bare command. Chat expects a leading slash. Sending a console-style command in chat, or a slash-prefixed command to a console prompt, can cause a syntax or unknown-command error.

Check authority and permissions
The sender must be an administrator or operator with the command permission granted by the server. The documented permission nodes for the access-control commands are hytale.system.command.ban and hytale.system.command.unban. The available material does not specify a separate kick node, so use the administrator/operator and permission configuration provided by your server when a kick is rejected.

- Identify the correct player name or accepted GameProfile identifier.
- Open the server console, or focus the in-game chat command entry.
- Use the console form from the command table when operating from the server process. Use the slash-prefixed form when operating in chat.
- Submit the command and watch for the player to disconnect.
- Tell the player why the session ended if your rules or moderation policy calls for an explanation. A kick itself does not prevent a later join.
A kick is appropriate when the objective is immediate removal rather than a continuing block. If the player reconnects and the underlying behavior continues, document the new incident and decide separately whether a ban is warranted; do not treat a kick as a substitute for access control.
How to ban a player
- Verify the target profile. A persistent restriction applied to the wrong profile can deny access to an uninvolved player.
- Choose the console or chat context and use the corresponding ban form in the table.
- Add an optional, concise reason after the player argument. Because the reason may contain multiple words, write it as a short phrase that remains understandable in moderation records.
- Submit the command and confirm that the online target is disconnected.
- Record the action, profile identifier, reason, and time in whatever moderation log your team uses.
The ban is stored by the access-control system. If the target is online, the system disconnects them when the ban is applied. If they are offline, the stored restriction is checked the next time they attempt to connect.
Writing a useful reason
A reason should identify the rule or event, not add unnecessary personal information. “Repeated chat harassment after warning” is more useful to another moderator than an unexplained label. Keep the wording factual and consistent with your server rules so an appeal can be reviewed later.
What a ban does not do
A ban is not merely a stronger kick. It has two separate effects: it ends an online session and persists as an access-control record. It does not guarantee that every other account associated with a person is blocked, and it does not replace any separate whitelist, permission, or plugin policy your server uses.

How to unban a player
- Confirm that the stored restriction belongs to the player you intend to restore.
- Run the unban form from the command table in the console or in-game chat, using the same profile argument accepted by your server.
- Wait for the command to be accepted and, if your server provides one, verify the access-control status.
- Ask the player to attempt a new connection. An unban changes future connection eligibility; it does not reconnect an already-online player.
If the player still cannot join, investigate other controls such as a whitelist, required join permission, another stored restriction, or a profile-identifier mismatch. Removing one ban cannot override an independent access rule.
Kick, ban and unban: operational differences

This distinction explains the most common mistaken expectation: issuing an unban to someone who is already online does not “bring them back.” Since the ban is enforced when a player connects, the unban affects the next connection decision.
Console versus in-game chat
Using the server console
The console is the safer context when the target is disruptive, cannot communicate in chat, or the administrator needs to act before joining the world. Enter the command name directly, without /. Include the player argument and, for a ban, the optional reason as plain text.
Using in-game chat
Chat commands are convenient for an authorized moderator who is already playing. Begin with /, then enter the same command and arguments. The sender still needs the relevant authority; being inside the world does not by itself grant moderation access.
When the two contexts appear inconsistent
If a command works in one context but not the other, first remove or add the slash as appropriate. Then check that the account issuing the chat command has the required node and that the console is connected to the intended server instance. A command sent to a different instance can appear to succeed while leaving the player on the actual server unaffected.

Troubleshooting rejected commands and unexpected results
“Unknown command” or syntax error
- Check the execution context. Console input must not begin with
/; chat input must. - Check spelling and spacing in the command and player argument.
- Use the exact argument form accepted by the server, such as the player’s GameProfile identifier when a name does not resolve.
- Make sure you are connected to the Hytale server console rather than a host-panel command field that uses a different command syntax.
Permission denied
Verify that the sender is an administrator or operator and that the relevant permission has been granted. For bans, check hytale.system.command.ban. For unbans, check hytale.system.command.unban. If a moderator can kick but cannot ban or unban, that is consistent with separate command permissions; grant only the nodes required by your moderation role.
The wrong player was affected
Stop issuing further access changes until the identity is confirmed. Compare the supplied name or profile identifier with the server’s player record, then correct the stored action using the matching profile. Name-based assumptions are especially risky when multiple players use similar names.

That is the expected behavior of a kick. It ends the current session without blocking a later connection. If the moderation decision requires preventing re-entry, use the ban workflow instead and include a clear reason.
The banned player was not online
A stored ban can still be applied to an offline target. There is no current connection to terminate, but the restriction should be evaluated on the next connection attempt. Confirm that the profile argument identifies the intended account.
An unbanned player still cannot join
- Ensure the unban targeted the same profile that was banned.
- Have the player start a fresh connection attempt; an unban does not reconnect an existing session.
- Check for a whitelist or another access-control rule.
- Confirm the player has any join permission required by your server configuration.
Update 6, whitelist access and pluggable storage
Update 6 changes how administrators can extend access control. Plugins can replace the ban provider or the storage provider, and server configuration can name ban storage in a BanStorage block. That means the command surface may remain familiar while the component that stores or evaluates bans is supplied by a plugin or configured backend.
When troubleshooting a server with custom access-control extensions, identify which provider is active before assuming that a command’s data is held in the default location. A provider change can affect where moderators inspect records and how a team backs up or migrates them.
The same update states that whitelist access now uses the hytale.server.join permission. Existing whitelist data migrates to whitelist.json.migrated. If an unbanned player is still refused at connection time, review this join permission and the migrated whitelist data in addition to the ban record.
Why extensibility matters to moderators
With a pluggable provider, the command that creates a restriction and the storage system that retains it are related but distinct. A moderator should know which plugin or configuration owns ban storage, who can edit it, and how an unban is propagated. Avoid manually deleting files unless the provider’s documentation explicitly requires it; an external provider may maintain its own format or database.
A safe moderation workflow
- Assess the incident. Decide whether the immediate need is a session-ending kick or a persistent access restriction.
- Verify identity. Match the player name or GameProfile identifier to the correct account.
- Use the right context. Console commands have no slash; chat commands do.
- Apply the least extensive action that solves the problem. A kick is temporary; a ban affects future connections.
- Give a precise reason for a ban. Use the optional reason field as a factual moderation note.
- Record the decision. Keep the profile, action, reason, and time together so another moderator can review it.
- Handle restoration deliberately. Use unban when the stored restriction should be removed, then require a new connection attempt.
- Recheck other controls. Whitelist state, join permissions, and plugin-managed providers can independently affect access.
Practical decision examples
A player needs to reconnect after a temporary problem
Use a kick. The player is disconnected, but no persistent ban is created, so they can attempt to join again when the problem is resolved.
A player continues harassment after warnings
Use a ban with a concise reason that identifies the repeated rule violation. The online session ends immediately, and later connection attempts are evaluated against the stored ban.
An appeal is accepted
Use an unban against the same profile that holds the restriction. Tell the player to reconnect rather than expecting the command to restore an existing session, and check whitelist or join-permission rules if access is still denied.
