A normal kick is usually temporary: the driver can reconnect. For a stronger block, use the blacklist behavior exposed by your server manager—until restart for a short event, or a persistent entry in blacklist.txt for an ongoing ban. Command names and settings below are documented for AssettoServer and compatible management tools, not guaranteed for every server wrapper.

Replace <id> with the driver’s car ID or player name. Replace <reason> with a short explanation such as reckless driving or chat abuse, or omit it when your implementation permits an empty reason.
Get administrator access before using moderation commands
Unauthenticated players cannot run administrative commands. AssettoServer’s command workflow uses the password configured in server_cfg.ini. Join the server, open the administrative chat or command entry point, and submit:

/admin <adminPassword>
The password must match the value loaded by the running server. Editing a file without restarting or reloading the server will not necessarily change the active password, so verify which configuration the current instance actually uses.
Automatic administrator login with SteamID
AssettoServer can grant administrator status automatically when an operator places a SteamID in admins.txt in the server folder. This avoids typing the password during each session, but it has an important prerequisite: Steam authentication must be enabled. AssettoServer warns that using the automatic SteamID method while Steam authentication is disabled can permit SteamID spoofing and unauthorized administrator access.
- Use the password method when you need a one-time or manually controlled login.
- Use
admins.txtonly when the server is running with Steam authentication enabled and the file is protected from unauthorized edits. - After changing either the password configuration or the administrator file, restart or reload the server according to that deployment’s procedure before testing access.
Identify the correct driver
Moderation is applied to the identifier supplied to the command. AssettoServer documents the argument as the player’s car ID or name. A car ID is generally safer than a name when several drivers have similar names, when names contain unusual characters, or when a name has changed during a session.
Using the car ID
- Open the live player list or administrative view exposed by your server.
- Find the driver’s car number or session ID.
- Use that value in place of
<id>, preserving any digits exactly as displayed.
For example, if the target is listed as car ID 17, the command can be /kick 17 reckless driving. The same identifier can be used with the explicit form, /kick_id 17 reckless driving.
Using the player name
If your interface does not show a reliable car ID, use the exact player name displayed by the server. Names with spaces may require the command parser’s quoting or escaping convention; because that convention varies by wrapper, check the command help exposed by your deployment before adding quotation marks. If the name is ambiguous, switch to the car ID rather than risking action against the wrong driver.
How to kick a player
A kick is the appropriate first response to a one-off disruption, a warning, or a rule violation that does not justify a lasting block. It removes the player from the current session but does not, by itself, establish a permanent ban.
- Authenticate with
/admin <adminPassword>, or confirm that your SteamID has administrator status throughadmins.txt. - Confirm the target’s current car ID or exact player name.
- Enter
/kick <id> <reason>or/kick_id <id> <reason>in the command interface documented for your server. - Check the server response and player list to verify that the intended driver left the session.
The reason is optional. Supplying a concise reason gives the driver a useful explanation and creates a clearer moderation record than an unexplained removal. Avoid putting passwords, personal information, or an argument in the reason field; it is shown to the affected player.
When a normal kick is enough
- An accidental collision or first-time unsafe maneuver.
- Chat disruption that stops after a warning.
- A driver who needs to correct a car, entry, or connection issue and can reasonably return.
If the driver reconnects after a normal kick, that is expected behavior rather than a failed command. Select a stronger blacklist mode only when the server’s rules call for it.

How to ban a player
Use a ban when removing the driver for the current session is not sufficient—for example, after repeated abuse or a serious rule violation. AssettoServer documents these command forms:
/ban <id> <reason>/ban_id <id> <reason>
- Authenticate and verify that the running server is AssettoServer or a wrapper that implements this command family.
- Identify the driver by car ID or exact player name.
- Enter the ban command with an optional, factual reason.
- Confirm the resulting block in the server’s player or blacklist view.
Do not assume that every Assetto Corsa server package supports these exact commands. The syntax above comes from AssettoServer documentation; other dedicated-server implementations and control panels may use different labels, permissions, or ban storage. If the server returns an unknown-command error, consult that implementation’s command reference instead of repeatedly trying variants.
Choose how long the block should last
Server Manager exposes three blacklist behaviors. They differ by rejoin behavior, not merely by the word used in a menu.

The configuration help identifies the first behavior as a regular kick, the second as no rejoin until restart, and the third as adding the player to blacklist.txt. It does not establish a universal numeric value for every mode, so do not infer undocumented values from another manager. Change the mode in the manager used by your server, then verify the resulting behavior with a controlled test or the manager’s status view.
Removing a persistent ban
For a persistent blacklist, locate the corresponding entry in blacklist.txt using the file-management method provided by your deployment, remove only the intended entry, and restart or reload the server if required. Keep a backup before editing a live configuration file. A malformed line or accidental deletion of another driver’s entry can affect unrelated players.
Default, custom, and hosted server layouts
The moderation concepts stay similar, but the screen used to enter commands and the way files are edited depend on the deployment.

AssettoServer is a custom dedicated-server implementation for Assetto Corsa. Its introduction describes installation in the Assetto Corsa server directory and configuration through Content Manager or a dedicated-server package. In this layout, verify the active server folder before editing server_cfg.ini, admins.txt, or blacklist.txt; multiple installations can leave you editing a file that the running process never reads.
Server Manager
Server Manager exposes ADMIN_PASSWORD as the password used to recognize a server administrator and provides the BLACKLIST_MODE setting. The manager may present these as form fields rather than raw text. Use the value shown in the manager, save it, and restart or reload according to its workflow before expecting a new policy to apply.

Hosted control panels
AC Cloud’s documented workflow asks the operator to upload both server_cfg.ini and entry_list.ini and to provide an administration password. A hosted panel may hide the physical server folder and replace direct file editing with an upload or configuration screen. Before using a command, confirm where the panel displays connected drivers, how it grants admin access, and whether it implements AssettoServer’s command names. Hosting changes the interface; it does not make unsupported commands universal.
SteamID administration is not the same as a SteamID ban command
SteamID appears in AssettoServer’s administrator-login mechanism: an operator can list a SteamID in admins.txt for automatic admin recognition. The documented kick and ban commands, however, describe their target argument as a car ID or player name. The available command reference does not establish a universal /ban_steamid command or specify that the ban argument is a SteamID.

Troubleshoot failed commands and unexpected rejoining
/admin is rejected
- Check that the password exactly matches the value in the active
server_cfg.ini, including capitalization and punctuation. - Confirm that the server has loaded the edited file; restart or reload it if the deployment requires that step.
- Make sure you are using the command entry point intended for administrators rather than ordinary player chat.
- If you rely on
admins.txt, verify the SteamID and enable Steam authentication before testing again. - Confirm that your server implementation actually supports the
/adminworkflow; wrappers can rename or replace it.
The server reports an unknown kick or ban command
Check whether the running implementation is AssettoServer or a different dedicated-server package. The documented /kick, /kick_id, /ban, and /ban_id forms are implementation-specific. Use the package’s own command list and make sure your account has the required permission.
The wrong driver was removed
Stop using a similar display name and repeat the process with the current car ID. Recheck the live player list immediately before sending the command because IDs can change between sessions or after a driver leaves.
A kicked driver immediately returns
That is normal for a reversible kick. Set the compatible manager to the restart-duration behavior when the restriction should last only through the current event, or use the persistent blacklist behavior when the player must remain blocked until an administrator removes the entry.
A supposedly persistent ban does not survive a restart
- Verify that the selected mode writes to
blacklist.txtrather than using the normal-kick or restart-only behavior. - Check that the running instance is reading the same server folder where the blacklist was written.
- Confirm that the entry was saved before the process stopped and that its identifier matches the one used by the server.
- Review the manager’s status or logs for a failed configuration reload.
A moderation checklist for race administrators
- Write a short rule for what merits a warning, a session removal, and a persistent ban.
- Test administrator authentication before the event begins, not while a live incident is unfolding.
- Keep the active
server_cfg.ini,admins.txt, and blacklist location documented for every server instance. - Prefer car IDs when names are ambiguous, and record the reason for each lasting action.
- Use a normal kick for a reversible intervention, a restart-duration block for the remainder of an event, and a persistent blacklist entry only when the violation justifies it.
- After changing blacklist settings or files, verify the behavior with the manager’s status view or a controlled test rather than assuming the change was loaded.
This sequence separates authentication, identification, action, and persistence. Keeping those decisions distinct reduces accidental removals and makes it clear why a player can or cannot reconnect.
Practical decision guide
When an incident starts, follow the same order every time. First decide whether the problem is an immediate safety issue or a routine rule violation. If a driver is causing collisions or disrupting the server, authenticate and remove the driver before investigating the longer-term action. Next, decide whether the player should be allowed back. A normal kick is suitable when the incident is isolated or the driver needs to correct a mistake. Choose the restart-duration block when the person should stay out for the remainder of a live session but may return at the next restart. Reserve a persistent blacklist entry for repeated abuse or a serious violation that your published rules treat as an ongoing ban.

Do not change the blacklist mode impulsively during a race without noting its previous value. A mode is a server-wide policy, so changing it can affect the next moderation action against a different player. If you only need to remove one person temporarily, use the individual command or action exposed by the manager and then leave the general policy unchanged.
Writing useful kick and ban reasons
Because the reason is shown to the affected player, make it specific enough to explain the action but short enough to read in chat. Phrases such as reckless driving, chat abuse, or repeated contact after warning identify the conduct without turning the command into an argument. Avoid insults, speculation about a player’s identity, or private information. A factual reason also helps another administrator understand why a persistent blacklist entry exists.
Keep the reason separate from the identifier. For example, with car ID 17, /kick 17 reckless driving targets ID 17 and displays the words after it as the explanation. If a name contains spaces, do not guess at quotation rules: use the car ID or consult the command help for that specific wrapper. This avoids accidentally truncating the name or treating part of it as the reason.
Testing before an event
Run a short test on a private or low-risk session before relying on moderation during a public race. Confirm that an administrator can authenticate, that the live player list shows the identifier you expect, and that a normal kick actually permits a reconnect. If your rules use a restart-duration or persistent block, test the boundary that matters: restart the server for the former, or remove and reload the blacklist entry for the latter. These checks reveal whether the manager is editing the same instance and folder that hosts the live session.
Document the location of server_cfg.ini, admins.txt, and blacklist.txt for every server instance. A hosted service may require uploading files rather than editing them in place, while a self-hosted machine may contain several server folders. The safest test is one that verifies both the administrative response and the player’s actual ability to reconnect.

What changes when you move to hosting?
A hosted service can simplify file access, but it does not remove the need to understand the underlying settings. AC Cloud’s workflow requests server_cfg.ini, entry_list.ini, and an administration password. Before subscribing or moving an established league, check that the panel exposes connected players, supports the command family you use, and provides a way to view or remove persistent blacklist entries. If the panel substitutes its own ban control, use that control rather than sending commands documented for a different server implementation.
There is no single Assetto Corsa hosting control panel with identical terminology. One service may call an action “kick,” another may offer “blacklist until restart,” and a third may require editing a file. Treat the visible label, storage location, and rejoin behavior as separate things to verify.
Account security and administrative hygiene
Protect the administrator password and the files that grant automatic access. Anyone who can alter admins.txt on a Steam-authenticated server can potentially gain administrator status, and disabling Steam authentication while relying on SteamID recognition creates a spoofing risk. Limit file access to trusted operators, keep a backup before changing a blacklist, and remove obsolete administrator entries when staff roles change.
Finally, make moderation predictable for drivers. Publish whether a first incident receives a kick, whether a session ban lasts until restart, and what behavior leads to a persistent blacklist. Clear rules reduce disputes and give administrators a consistent basis for choosing the least restrictive action that solves the problem.
