Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo remove the title that appears over the video, open Tools > Preferences in VLC, set Show Settings to All, choose Video, clear Show media title on video, click Save, and restart VLC. If viewers still see text, check whether your broadcast captures VLC’s window title bar rather than the video overlay.
Turn off VLC’s on-video title overlay
- In VLC, open Tools > Preferences.
- At the bottom of the Preferences window, change Show Settings to All.
- In the left-hand settings list, select Video.
- Clear Show media title on video.
- Click Save, then restart VLC so the change takes effect.
These steps follow VideoLAN’s Windows FAQ. Menu labels or layout can differ by operating system, VLC version, or interface module. VLC defines this checkbox as displaying the video’s title on top of the movie.

If the title still appears in the stream
First look at the captured picture and identify where the text sits. The title may be part of VLC’s window frame rather than an overlay on the video. VLC has a separate Qt interface option called Show playing item name in window title; it controls the name shown in the controller window title, not the on-video overlay. The available documentation identifies this setting but does not establish one current menu path for every VLC version, so look for that label in your interface rather than relying on a universal route.
- Text over the video picture: check that Show media title on video is cleared, then save and restart VLC.
- Text in the VLC window frame: check whether your streaming software is capturing the whole VLC window, including its title bar, and look for the Qt window-title option.
- Region or display capture: inspect the captured image to confirm which area is included before changing other VLC preferences.
The overlay and window-title controls are separate, so disabling the overlay will not necessarily hide text in a captured window frame.
