To keep a 24/7 Indian music stream smooth, handle two transitions separately: use OBS scene transitions for visual changes, and configure the playlist or media sources so one track hands off cleanly to the next. A fade cannot prevent a playback pause, and neither a fade nor a playlist can fix an encoder, power, or network interruption. Rehearse the complete stream in YouTube’s preview and monitor stream health after going live.
Separate visual transitions from track handoffs
An OBS scene transition changes what viewers see when you switch between scenes or layouts. A media handoff is the change from one song or video file to another. For example, a visual fade between a devotional artwork scene and a lyric scene can look smooth while the audio pauses because the next file has not loaded. Conversely, a playlist can play continuously while the image changes abruptly. Configure and test each job on its own.

Build a playlist that can hand off reliably
Prepare and name the sources
- In OBS, create the scenes you need, such as an opening card, the main music programme, and a break or information card. Give each scene and source a clear name so you can identify the right item during setup.
- Add the media sources for your recordings. If using a VLC Video source, add the intended files to its playlist and enable its loop option when you want playback to repeat.
- Test the actual sequence, including the last item looping back to the first. Listen at every boundary for a gap, abrupt volume change, clipped start, or unexpected silence, and watch for black frames or a source that appears late.
Check what happens when a source is hidden
OBS media-source behavior matters when a file source becomes inactive and later visible again. Closing an inactive file source can mean it must reload when it returns, creating a brief delay. If a source must reappear immediately, test it with that setting disabled rather than assuming the handoff will be instant. The right arrangement depends on whether the same media source stays active, is hidden, or is reloaded in your scene design.

Choose and preview the visual handoff
Use Fade for gradual changes and Cut for direct ones
OBS provides Fade and Cut transitions by default, and lets you configure transition duration. A Fade is useful when a gradual visual change fits the music; a Cut is appropriate when the content calls for an immediate change. There is no official universal duration for Indian music streams: preview a duration that suits the artwork, lyrics, and pace of the programme instead of treating one setting as a platform standard.
Preview before viewers see it
Studio Mode lets you prepare a scene and preview it before sending it to the live output. Use it to check that the next layout is framed correctly and that the chosen transition looks as intended. This preview checks the scene change, not whether the playlist’s audio handoff or YouTube delivery is uninterrupted.

Set encoder delivery for the connection you actually have
A visually polished transition still looks rough if the stream buffers or drops frames. Choose a resolution, frame rate, and bitrate that your encoder and measured upload connection can sustain continuously. YouTube recommends a speed test and a representative preflight test; its recommendations are targets, not a guarantee that a particular connection, including a home connection in India, can hold that rate around the clock.

If your encoder exposes a keyframe interval setting, use a consistent interval rather than adaptive keyframes. OBS notes that consistent keyframe timing can help viewers move between quality options without interruption; this concerns quality switching, not the Fade effect between OBS scenes. YouTube also documents HLS ingestion, which has specific format requirements and relatively higher latency. It is aimed at encoder vendors, not a default choice for a typical OBS operator; see YouTube’s HLS ingestion guide.
Rehearse the complete stream and monitor it live
- Run a test with the same kind of audio and visual movement you plan to stream. YouTube specifically recommends including similar audio and movement in the test.
- Play through multiple track boundaries, including a playlist loop if the stream will repeat. Check both the sound and picture at each handoff.
- Preview scene changes in Studio Mode, then check the encoder output and YouTube preview for black frames, freezes, audio gaps, or buffering.
- After starting the real broadcast, watch YouTube stream health and its messages. Do not assume a clean OBS preview proves that viewers are receiving a stable stream.

Plan for interruptions, archives, and music rights
Continuity requires a failure plan
A playlist and transition effect do not keep a stream running through a computer shutdown, power cut, encoder failure, or loss of internet. If you operate OBS locally, plan how someone will notice and respond to those problems; the official OBS and YouTube material cited here does not guarantee unattended 24/7 uptime.
Keep your own recording if a complete archive matters
YouTube’s Full Live Production guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived and recommends recording longer sessions for manual upload. Because the guide does not show a publication date, check the current YouTube Studio behavior before relying on that limit. For a stream longer than 12 hours where a complete copy matters, keep a local recording and confirm it is being saved correctly.

Clear the rights for the music and video
Holding a file or making its transition seamless does not establish permission to broadcast it. YouTube’s production guidance advises securing clearances for the live stream, rebroadcast, and on-demand audio and video. It does not set out India-specific music licensing terms. Confirm the rights required for your particular recordings, territory, and use with the relevant rights holders or a qualified professional.
