How to Keep Track of a Show’s Release Date Across Streaming Services

The most reliable way to track shows across streaming services is to combine one cross-service watchlist with each service’s own reminder system. Use a guide such as JustWatch to save shows, record watched episodes or seasons, filter by provider and country, and enable phone notifications. For a title with a confirmed date, also use the provider’s reminder button—for example, Netflix’s Remind Me feature. Treat every future date as currently scheduled, not guaranteed: catalogs are country-specific and dates can move when production or licensing changes.

Set up one cross-service watchlist first

Checking every streaming app separately is the easiest way to miss a season announcement or forget which service carries a show. A cross-service guide gives you one place to see what is new, what is upcoming and which provider currently lists a title. JustWatch describes a single watchlist that spans streaming services; its US pages also let you filter new and upcoming programs by provider at justwatch.com/us/new and justwatch.com/us/upcoming.

Choose the correct country and providers

Start by setting the guide to the country where you will watch. Availability and launch dates can differ by territory, and the pages above are US-specific. Select only the providers you actually subscribe to or intend to check. A date shown for a US catalog should not be copied into a calendar for another market without checking the local provider catalog.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Save every show you may want to follow

  1. Open the show’s page in the cross-service guide.
  2. Use the site or app’s watchlist control to save it.
  3. Repeat for shows that have not announced a date as well as those with a scheduled return.
  4. Review the list after changing your provider filters so you can see where each title is currently listed.

This creates a single queue instead of a collection of unrelated reminders. It also gives you a place to check a title when a service changes its catalog.

Track viewing progress, not just release dates

A reminder is useful only if you know whether you have already started the show. JustWatch’s TV Show Tracking support page explains that users can mark episodes or entire seasons as watched, and that tracked programs appear in TV Show Tracking: support.justwatch.com/article/what-is-tv-show-tracking.

Mark episodes as soon as you finish them

After watching, mark the episode watched in the guide. If you have completed a season, mark the season rather than clicking through every episode. This prevents a new-season alert from being confused with an unfinished older episode.

Use progress to separate three different situations

  • Not started: the show is saved, but no episode is marked watched.
  • In progress: at least one episode is watched and more remain.
  • Waiting for a return: the available season is complete and the next episode or season has not arrived.

The guide’s tracking states are especially helpful when several shows return in the same month. You can open the tracking view and immediately distinguish a series you are waiting for from one you still need to begin.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Track the exact season you are waiting for

When a show has several seasons, verify that your progress is attached to the right one. Marking an entire season watched is efficient only after you have actually finished it. If you stopped partway through, mark individual episodes instead; otherwise, the tracker can make an unfinished season look complete when a new release arrives.

Progress tracking also answers a common question: “Did I miss the new episode, or have I simply not finished the old season?” The watchlist tells you that a title changed, while the watched state tells you what action to take next.

Enable notifications at the phone level

JustWatch says app users can receive push notifications when new episodes or seasons are released, but those alerts depend on notifications being enabled in the phone’s operating-system settings. Saving a show without granting notification permission will not produce a reliable alert.

  1. Install or open the guide’s mobile app and sign in to the account containing your tracked shows.
  2. Allow notifications when the app asks for permission.
  3. If permission was previously denied, open the phone’s Settings, find the app in the notifications list and turn notifications on.
  4. Keep alerts enabled for the tracked-show feature, then check one saved title to confirm that tracking is active.

Notification controls vary by phone, so the exact menu wording is determined by your operating system. If you use a tablet and a phone, check both devices; permission on one does not necessarily change the other.

Understand what an alert does and does not mean

An alert is a prompt to verify availability, not a permanent record of a release. It may tell you that a new episode or season is listed, but it does not replace checking the show page, provider and country. If an alert appears for a series you have not finished, open your progress view before watching so you do not start at the wrong episode.

Add the streaming service’s own reminder

A cross-service guide is the best central index, but a provider reminder can catch a title-specific availability event. Netflix’s Help Center says some upcoming movies and shows display a future release date and a Remind Me option: help.netflix.com/en/node/101522.

How Netflix’s reminder works

  1. Open the upcoming title’s page in Netflix.
  2. Select Remind Me when that control is available.
  3. When the title becomes available, Netflix may send a notification or email and add the title to My List, according to its Help Center.

Remind Me is not shown for every title. It applies when Netflix has an announced future date and has enabled the feature for that title, so it should supplement—not replace—the cross-service watchlist.

Because the Netflix reminder is tied to one service, it cannot tell you that a competing provider has acquired the show or that another country has a different launch date. Keep the central entry even after activating Remind Me, and remove or update duplicate personal notes when the title becomes available.

Cross-service guide versus service reminder

The two layers solve different problems. The following comparison uses only capabilities described by the official pages above; a feature marked “not stated” should not be assumed to exist.

Capability Cross-service guide (JustWatch example) Individual service reminder (Netflix example)
Provider coverage Designed to combine listings from multiple streaming services in one watchlist; the available providers depend on the selected country. Applies to titles available through Netflix.
Episode and season progress Users can mark episodes or seasons watched and view tracked shows by progress. Not stated for the Remind Me feature.
Upcoming-date discovery Upcoming and new-title pages can be filtered by provider on the US guide. Shows a future date for some Netflix titles.
Alerts Push notifications are available in the app when phone notification permission is enabled. Netflix may send a notification or email when a reminded title becomes available.
Single list across services Yes; the watchlist is intended to span services. My List is a Netflix list, not a cross-service list.
Geographic scope The pages cited here are US pages; check the guide’s country setting before relying on a listing. Availability and dates depend on the Netflix catalog for your country.
Date certainty Displays listings supplied for the selected market; an upcoming listing can change. Netflix says dates can change because of production delays or licensing contracts.

What to compare if you use another guide

No single feature matters in isolation. Check whether the guide covers your country, includes the providers you use, distinguishes episodes from seasons, records watched progress, offers push or email alerts and keeps one list across services. Also check whether notifications are optional and where they are enabled. A guide that lists a provider but cannot track your progress may still help with discovery, while a service app that sends reminders may not show what is happening elsewhere.

Review these capabilities in the app’s current settings rather than relying on an old feature list. Provider catalogs and app controls change, and a capability described for one market may not appear in another.

Use a repeatable release-date check

A short routine keeps your list accurate without constant browsing. Do it whenever a show enters your watchlist, then repeat it as the release approaches.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Save the show centrally. Add it to the cross-service watchlist and confirm that the title is the correct season or series.
  2. Record your starting point. Mark completed episodes or seasons so the tracker knows whether you are waiting for a return or catching up.
  3. Check the provider. Filter the guide to the services available in your country and note which one currently lists the show.
  4. Capture the date as provisional. Write “scheduled” or “currently listed” in any personal calendar rather than treating it as a guarantee.
  5. Set the provider reminder. If the service offers a title-level control such as Netflix’s Remind Me, activate it as a second signal.
  6. Verify near launch. Reopen the show page a few days before the expected release and check the provider, country and date again.
  7. Mark the new episode. After watching, update the episode or season state so the next alert represents the next unwatched installment.

A low-maintenance weekly review

Once a week, open the guide’s new and upcoming views, filter to your selected providers and scan only saved shows. Remove duplicate notes, update a changed date and move completed seasons into the waiting-for-a-return state. For shows with no announced date, leave them saved but do not create a guessed calendar entry. This keeps an unconfirmed title visible without turning speculation into a deadline.

Why dates and availability change

Netflix states that future dates may move because production is delayed or licensing contracts are finalized differently. A date can therefore be accurate when you save it and still be different later. A provider may also list a show in one country while another country has a different service, delay or no announced date.

Use precise language in your own notes

  • Write currently listed for 12 October when a guide shows a date that has not been confirmed as final.
  • Write scheduled on Netflix when the date comes from Netflix’s title page.
  • Write date not announced when a show is saved but no future date appears.
  • Do not copy a US date into a calendar for another country without checking that market.

This wording keeps a changed date from looking like a missed reminder or a tracking error.

Resolve conflicting dates

If the guide and provider page disagree, first confirm that both entries refer to the same season and country. Then check the provider’s own title page again and retain the date with a note identifying its source. Do not keep two unlabelled dates in separate calendars; that creates two possible “release days” and makes it impossible to tell which one needs verification.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Troubleshoot common tracking failures

The show is missing from the guide

Check the spelling, season selector and country setting first. A title may be listed under a localized name, or the provider may not have published an upcoming entry yet. Search the provider directly for a title-specific announcement, then save the show when the guide adds it.

The guide shows a provider you do not use

Open the provider filters and select only services relevant to your household. If the listing still appears, treat it as an availability lead rather than proof that you can watch it. Catalog ownership can differ by country and can change over time.

No push alert arrived

  1. Confirm that the show is actually in your tracked list rather than only in a search history.
  2. Check the phone’s system notification permission for the app.
  3. Verify that the app is signed in to the account containing the tracked show.
  4. Open the guide and check the title manually; an alert is a convenience, not evidence that the date is unchanged.

The date changed after you saved it

Replace the old note with the newly listed date and keep the provider and country beside it. For Netflix titles, a change is consistent with the service’s warning about production and licensing changes. Do not keep multiple conflicting dates in different calendars.

You received an alert but have not watched the previous season

Use the tracker’s watched-episode or watched-season state to identify where you stopped. The new-release alert tells you that availability changed; it does not indicate that you are caught up.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The notification arrives on the wrong device

Check which device is signed in to the account and review notification permission on each phone or tablet you use. A permission choice on one device does not necessarily carry over to another. Keep at least one manual check in your routine so a device change does not become a missed release.

Organize a watchlist that stays useful

Keep one entry per series

Save the series once and update its episode or season progress. Creating separate notes for every episode makes it harder to see which shows are actually awaiting a return.

Review the list on a fixed schedule

A weekly check of the guide’s new and upcoming pages is usually more dependable than relying on memory. Filter to your selected providers, open each saved title with an upcoming entry and verify the country before changing your calendar.

Separate announced and unannounced returns

Keep shows with a published future date in one review group and shows with no date in another. The second group still belongs in the watchlist, but it should not receive a guessed calendar entry.

Record the source of a date

Next to a date, note whether it came from the cross-service guide or the provider’s own title page. If the two disagree, check the provider page and the country setting again before deciding which date to retain.

Archive finished or abandoned shows

When you finish a series or decide not to continue, remove it from active release checking or clearly label it as complete. Otherwise, old entries can generate unnecessary searches and make genuinely upcoming shows harder to spot. Keep a saved entry only when you still want to follow a future episode or season.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Support on Ko-Fi

A practical example

Suppose you follow three series on different services. Save all three in the cross-service guide, mark the last watched episode for each and filter the upcoming page to your country and providers. One series has a listed date but no provider reminder; leave the date marked as scheduled and rely on the guide’s push alert after confirming phone permissions. A second series has Netflix’s Remind Me control; activate it and keep the central watchlist entry. The third series has no announced date; leave it tracked without adding a speculative calendar date. When release week arrives, reopen all three listings, because the provider or date may have changed.

If the first series appears under a different provider during the final check, update the provider note rather than assuming the original listing is still valid. If the second series sends an email but your tracker shows the prior season unfinished, resume from the tracked episode instead of treating the email as a progress update. For the third, continue checking the saved entry without converting rumors or an empty listing into a date.

Frequently asked questions

What is the simplest setup for several streaming services?

Use one cross-service watchlist set to your country, save each series, mark watched episodes or seasons and enable the guide app’s phone notifications. Add a provider reminder when a title offers one, then verify the listing near release.

Can a watchlist tell me exactly where a show is streaming?

It can show the providers listed for the selected country and filters, but availability can change. Treat the provider as current information and reopen the title page before watching, especially when the date is close.

Should I save a show that has no release date?

Yes. Saving an unannounced show keeps it in your tracking view so you can notice when a listing appears. Do not add a guessed date to your calendar; label it “date not announced.”

Do provider reminders replace a cross-service guide?

No. A provider reminder covers that service’s title and may notify you by app alert or email, while a cross-service guide combines providers and can record episode or season progress. Using both gives you discovery, progress and a title-level backup.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why should I check the country setting every time?

Streaming rights and launch dates differ by market. The JustWatch pages cited here are US pages, so a US listing is not a universal calendar entry. Confirm the local catalog before relying on the date or provider.

Are future release dates guaranteed?

No. Netflix says dates can change because of production delays or licensing contracts. Phrase notes as scheduled or currently listed, and recheck the provider and country near launch.

What if no notification arrives?

Confirm that the show is in the tracked list, notification permission is enabled in the phone’s settings and the app is signed in to the right account. Then check the show manually; alerts are helpful but not proof that a listing is unchanged.

The minimum setup that works

  • One cross-service watchlist set to your country.
  • Watched-episode or watched-season progress for every saved show.
  • Phone notifications enabled for the guide app.
  • Provider-level reminders for titles that offer them.
  • A final country, provider and date check near release.

This combination covers discovery, progress, alerts and last-minute verification without pretending that any streaming calendar is permanent.

The Bottom Line

Save every series in one country-specific cross-service watchlist, track watched episodes or seasons, enable phone notifications and add provider reminders where available. Recheck the provider, country and date near release because streaming schedules can change.
