How to Keep Salesforce Integrations Working After an AI Product Rename

Usually, you do not need to change a Salesforce integration just because an AI product has a new name. A rename is a branding event; an integration depends on technical values such as the OAuth client, callback URL, authorization and token endpoints, scopes, credentials, OAuth flow, and API version. Keep the existing connection when those values are unchanged. Make a coordinated change only when the product’s official migration notice confirms that one or more technical values changed.

Use the vendor’s current notice and Salesforce’s actual configuration as the source of truth. Preserve the working setup, compare every value, change only what is required, and test the real synchronization workflow before making the production cutover. Salesforce’s separate move toward External Client Apps is a platform decision, not an automatic consequence of an AI product rename.

What a product rename can—and cannot—change

An AI vendor can change its public product name while leaving the OAuth application, API host, redirect URI, scopes, and token behavior untouched. In that case, the Salesforce connection has no technical reason to stop working. Existing access tokens normally continue to represent the same authorization until they expire, are revoked, or the vendor deliberately changes its identity and authorization service.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A rename can coincide with a larger migration, however. The vendor may replace its OAuth application, move to a different authorization or token endpoint, change the callback URL, require new scopes, issue a new client secret or certificate, retire an API version, or change how refresh tokens are handled. Those are integration changes even if the user-facing announcement calls the event a “rename.”

What changed in the vendor notice Likely Salesforce impact What to do
Display name, logo, or website copy only Usually none Confirm the configured values still match the vendor’s current setup page, then continue monitoring.
OAuth client ID, client secret, certificate, or registered application Authentication can fail; existing tokens may not be accepted Coordinate credential replacement and reauthorization according to the vendor’s migration instructions.
Callback or redirect URL Authorization can stop at a redirect-URI mismatch Update the Salesforce app and the vendor registration so the runtime URL matches exactly.
Authorization or token endpoint, API base URL, or API version Login, token refresh, or API calls can fail Change the endpoint or version only after confirming the new value and testing representative operations.
Scopes, permission policy, or OAuth flow Users may receive insufficient-permission errors or be unable to authorize Compare the requested scopes and supported flow; reauthorize only when required.

The product name by itself is not evidence that any row in the table changed. The unnamed product in this case has no verified, vendor-specific migration notice, so the vendor’s own documentation must decide whether a technical update is necessary.

Start with the vendor’s official migration information

Find the authoritative notice

Locate the vendor’s official rename announcement, integration release notes, current Salesforce setup instructions, and any OAuth migration or deprecation page. Record the effective date, whether the old application remains supported, and whether the notice distinguishes a branding change from a backend migration. A community post or an email subject that mentions a new name is not enough to justify changing production credentials.

Make a before-change record

Before editing Salesforce, create a change record containing:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • The product’s old and new public names and the date of the notice.
  • The Salesforce org, environment, and integration owner.
  • The app registration used by the connection, including whether it is a Connected App or External Client App.
  • The OAuth flow, client identity, callback URL, authorization endpoint, token endpoint, API host, API version, scopes, permission policy, and certificate or secret reference where applicable.
  • Token and refresh behavior, including whether the vendor expects users or an integration account to authorize.
  • The current synchronization schedule and representative records or operations used for acceptance testing.

Do not paste live secrets into a ticket or change document. Store a reference to the approved secret-management location and retain the known-good configuration so a failed migration can be reversed.

Compare the technical configuration value by value

OAuth client identity

Check whether the vendor is still using the same OAuth application and client ID. A display name in a consent screen can change without changing the client identity; conversely, a vendor can create a new client while keeping a familiar product name. Treat a new client ID, secret, or certificate as a coordinated cutover, not as a cosmetic edit.

Callback or redirect URL

The callback URL is the address to which the authorization server returns the browser after consent. Salesforce describes it as the OAuth redirect URI and says that the value supplied at runtime must match one of the configured callback values. See Salesforce’s OAuth settings guidance.

Compare the value character by character: scheme, host, path, capitalization where the service treats it as significant, port, and trailing slash. A callback that differs by one character can produce an authorization error even when the client ID and password are correct. The vendor must send the same URI that Salesforce has configured; changing only one side leaves the flow broken.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Authorization and token endpoints

Record the authorization endpoint used for the browser redirect and the token endpoint used to exchange an authorization code or refresh token. Also check the API base URL and version used for subsequent Salesforce requests. A hostname change, a version retirement, or a move to a regional endpoint can require code or middleware changes even when OAuth login still succeeds.

Scopes and policy

Compare the requested scopes and Salesforce’s policy for permitted users. A rename that introduces new features may request an additional scope, while a security migration may remove a scope or require administrator approval. An access token can be valid yet fail on a specific operation when its scopes or the app’s permission policy are insufficient.

Credentials and token behavior

Determine whether the vendor requires a new client secret, certificate, signing key, or refresh-token strategy. Ask whether old refresh tokens remain valid during the transition and whether the vendor will revoke them at a stated time. Do not rotate a credential, revoke tokens, or force every user to authorize again solely because the product’s public name changed.

Updating Salesforce when a callback URL really changed

Salesforce allows the OAuth settings of a Connected App to be reconfigured; the relevant Help procedure is documented in Reconfigure a Connected App. Use the equivalent settings for an External Client App when that is the registration in use.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open the affected Salesforce org in a controlled change window and identify the exact app used by the integration.
  2. Compare the vendor’s new callback URI with the currently configured value and record both values in the change record.
  3. Update the callback setting in Salesforce using the app’s OAuth configuration. Keep the old value only if the vendor explicitly supports both values during a transition; otherwise, removing it too early can block an in-flight rollback.
  4. Update the vendor-side OAuth registration with the same URI, if the vendor requires customer-managed registration.
  5. Save the change, confirm that the app’s policy and scopes were not unintentionally altered, and authorize a test user or integration account in a nonproduction environment where available.
  6. After successful testing, schedule the production change and communicate the exact authorization action users or administrators must take.

Salesforce’s configuration guidance requires HTTPS for the described callback use, or an accepted custom URI scheme where the integration’s design and documentation support one. Do not substitute a guessed URL or a browser address copied from a different environment.

When reauthorization or credential rotation is justified

Reauthorization is appropriate when the vendor has replaced the OAuth client, changed scopes or the OAuth flow, changed the callback URL, invalidated refresh tokens, or required a new consent grant. If only the display name changed and existing token refreshes and API calls continue to work, forcing a new consent cycle creates risk without solving a demonstrated problem.

Coordinate both sides of a credential change

  • Confirm which credential is changing and whether the old and new credentials overlap.
  • Load the new secret or certificate through the approved secret-management process; never email it or embed it in a Salesforce record.
  • Authorize with the new client and verify that the returned token has the expected scopes.
  • Keep the old credential available for the documented rollback window only if the vendor permits it and your security policy allows it.
  • Revoke the old credential or tokens at the vendor’s stated retirement time, then verify that no scheduled job still uses them.

Some integrations use a single administrative authorization; others require each Salesforce user to grant consent. The vendor’s migration instructions and the integration’s actual token model determine which population must reauthorize.

Test the real workflow before production cutover

A successful login page is not proof that synchronization works. Validate the complete path in a sandbox, test org, or vendor test tenant when available.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Authorize: Start the integration’s normal connection process and verify that the browser returns to the exact registered callback without a redirect-URI error.
  2. Exchange and refresh: Confirm that the authorization code is exchanged successfully and, where applicable, that a refresh-token operation obtains a new access token.
  3. Read: Retrieve a representative Salesforce record or query used by the integration, checking field permissions and scope errors.
  4. Write: Perform a controlled create or update in the vendor system, or the reverse direction, using a test record that can be safely removed.
  5. Run synchronization: Execute the scheduled or on-demand job and verify mappings, timestamps, duplicate handling, and error reporting.
  6. Inspect logs: Check Salesforce and vendor logs for invalid-client, invalid-grant, callback mismatch, insufficient-scope, unauthorized, endpoint, and API-version errors.
  7. Test expiry behavior: If the vendor documents token expiration, allow or simulate the refresh path so that a connection that works immediately does not fail at the next scheduled run.
  8. Approve and monitor: Record the test results, obtain the required change approval, and monitor the first production runs more closely than normal.

Use representative read and write operations, not just a health-check request. If the integration is asynchronous, include the queue, retry, and error-notification paths in the test plan. No universal success rate or migration duration can be stated because both depend on the vendor’s implementation and your integration architecture.

Keep Salesforce’s Connected App change separate from the rename

Salesforce’s platform guidance changed independently of any particular AI product. Salesforce Developers states: “Creating connected apps is restricted as of Spring ‘26. You can continue to use existing connected apps during and after Spring ‘26. However, we recommend using external client apps instead.” The full guidance is available in Authorization Through External Client Apps or Connected Apps and OAuth 2.0.

That means an existing Connected App can continue to support a working integration after Spring ’26, while a new integration should generally be evaluated as an External Client App. It does not mean that an existing app must be migrated because a vendor changed its marketing name. Treat the two decisions as separate change requests with separate testing and rollback plans.

Check migration compatibility before choosing an External Client App

Salesforce documents an important incompatibility: a Connected App that uses the OAuth Username-Password flow cannot be migrated to an External Client App because that flow is not supported there. The limitation and migration procedure are described in Salesforce’s Connected App migration guidance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Situation Practical path Reason
Existing Connected App, vendor rename only, all technical values unchanged Keep the app and monitor normal jobs No demonstrated technical change requires intervention.
Existing Connected App, vendor changed client, callback, endpoint, scope, or credentials Update the existing app or the vendor registration as instructed, then test The integration’s technical contract changed.
New integration after Spring ’26 Evaluate an External Client App first Salesforce recommends External Client Apps for new integrations while Connected App creation is restricted.
Existing Connected App using Username-Password OAuth Do not assume it can be migrated; assess an alternative supported flow Salesforce says that flow is unsupported in External Client Apps.
Existing Connected App using a compatible flow and a planned platform modernization Assess migration separately in a test org Migration can affect policies, credentials, consent, and downtime even when the vendor rename does not.

Choose keep, update, or migrate with a risk-based decision

Use five questions to make the decision explicit:

  1. What exactly did the vendor change? A display-name change has a different risk profile from a new OAuth client or retired API endpoint.
  2. Is the current OAuth flow compatible with the proposed Salesforce app? Verify this before committing to an External Client App migration.
  3. Can the change interrupt production synchronization? Identify jobs, queues, user authorizations, and token-expiry windows that could be affected.
  4. Who owns each setting? Assign owners for Salesforce app configuration, vendor registration, secrets, callback URLs, and approval of scopes.
  5. Can you test and roll back? Require a sandbox or test tenant, representative workflows, observable logs, and a documented reversal for every production edit.

Keep the current configuration when the vendor confirms a name-only change and monitoring shows normal authentication and API activity. Update the configuration when a specific technical value changed and the vendor supplies the replacement. Plan a Salesforce app migration only when there is an independent reason—such as a new integration, governance requirement, or supported modernization path—and after compatibility testing.

Common failure modes and targeted fixes

“Invalid redirect URI” or callback mismatch

Compare the runtime URI with every configured Salesforce callback character by character. Check environment-specific hosts, trailing slashes, URL encoding, and whether the vendor is sending an old URI. Update both registrations, then retry authorization.

“Invalid client” or client authentication failure

Confirm that the integration is using the intended client ID and that the secret or certificate belongs to that client. Check for a vendor-side cutover that retired the old application. Replace the credential through the approved process and reauthorize if the vendor requires it.

“Insufficient scope” or permission errors

Compare the token’s granted scopes with the operation that failed. Check Salesforce app policies, user permissions, and any vendor approval step. Request only the scopes documented for the required workflow; broadening scopes without a defined need increases exposure.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Login succeeds but scheduled jobs fail

Inspect refresh-token handling, token expiration, background-job credentials, and API endpoint or version settings. A browser test may use a newly issued token while the scheduler still holds an old token or endpoint.

Only one environment fails

Compare sandbox and production callback URLs, client IDs, secrets, API hosts, and vendor tenant registrations. Do not copy a production credential into a test environment merely to make the test pass.

Migration blocked by the OAuth flow

If the app uses the Username-Password flow, Salesforce’s documented incompatibility prevents direct migration to an External Client App. Keep the supported existing arrangement while you evaluate a vendor-supported authorization-code or other compatible design; do not change flows in production without a complete reauthorization and rollback plan.

Design the change record and rollback

A durable change record should identify the old value, new value, owner, approval, test evidence, effective time, and rollback condition for each edited setting. Include the vendor notice URL and Salesforce documentation used to interpret the change. Define a rollback trigger such as repeated authentication failures, missed synchronization runs, data-write errors, or an unexpected scope or consent prompt.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Rollback is not always as simple as restoring an old string. A vendor may revoke an old client, invalidate refresh tokens, or retire an API version. Confirm in advance whether the old registration remains usable, how long dual registration is supported, and who can restore the previous vendor-side configuration. If rollback is impossible, schedule the cutover with a maintenance window and a tested recovery path for queued or missed records.

Use Salesforce integration architecture guidance for the surrounding system

The OAuth connection is only one part of an integration. Salesforce Architects’ Integration Patterns material is useful when deciding how synchronization, event delivery, retries, ownership, and error handling should be structured around the renamed product. Apply that architecture thinking when a vendor migration changes endpoints or token behavior: isolate credentials, make retries safe, preserve an audit trail, and ensure a temporary outage does not silently lose updates.

For a simple point-to-point connection, the main risk may be a callback or credential mismatch. For middleware or event-driven designs, also verify queue authentication, webhook endpoints, replay or retry behavior, idempotency keys, and dead-letter handling. A product rename does not automatically alter these components, but a vendor migration sometimes does.

A concise operating checklist

  • Obtain the vendor’s official rename or migration notice.
  • Classify the event as name-only or technical.
  • Record the working Salesforce app and all OAuth and API values before editing.
  • Compare client identity, callback URL, endpoints, API version, scopes, credentials, flow, and token behavior.
  • Change only the values the vendor confirms have changed.
  • Reauthorize users or rotate credentials only when the migration requires it.
  • Test authorization, refresh, representative reads and writes, scheduled synchronization, and logs.
  • Keep Salesforce Connected App modernization separate from the vendor rename.
  • Check OAuth-flow compatibility before considering an External Client App.
  • Document approvals, monitoring, and a realistic rollback or recovery plan.
