A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11To keep an OBS sleep sounds stream live through a power cut, back up both the streaming PC and the network equipment it needs—typically the router and ONT/modem—and size the backup for their measured watt draw and the outage duration you want to cover. OBS’s automatic reconnect can help after some network interruptions; it cannot power a computer back on or guarantee recovery after a complete shutdown.
Identify what can interrupt the stream
A power cut can affect the stream at three different points: the PC can lose power, the router or ONT/modem can go offline, or the ISP’s wider network or the streaming service can become unavailable. These require different remedies. A UPS for the router alone will not keep OBS running if the PC shuts down, and OBS reconnect settings do not maintain power. OBS notes that dropped frames and disconnections can stem from network conditions outside the software. OBS connection troubleshooting and OBS Studio overview

For a stream to continue locally, the PC, the network path, and the stream destination must all remain available. Backup power can address the first two only to the extent that the devices are connected to it and the battery lasts. It cannot guarantee that the ISP’s wider network or the streaming service will stay available during a local outage.
Keep the whole required setup powered
List the devices the stream depends on
- Streaming PC: This runs OBS and plays or generates the sleep sounds.
- Router: The local network gateway, whether the PC is wired or on Wi-Fi.
- ONT or modem: The device that connects the apartment to the ISP, if separate from the router.
- Monitor and other peripherals: Include them if you need them to control or recover the stream during an outage. A headless PC may not need its monitor powered continuously, but it still needs a tested way to restart or check its state.
Measure or obtain the actual watt draw for the equipment that must stay on, ideally under the load you expect while streaming. Add the loads together. A router-only backup cannot keep a desktop stream alive; the PC must also receive power. Schneider Electric recommends checking the attached load against the UPS’s capacity rather than choosing by its VA label alone. Schneider Electric: watts, VA, and UPS capacity

Set a realistic outage goal
Decide whether you need to bridge brief interruptions, keep streaming through a longer cut, or shut down cleanly. Those goals call for different backup capacity. Record the combined load in watts and the duration you want, then check the chosen unit’s manufacturer runtime chart at that load. Actual runtime depends on the backup device and battery condition; there is no universal runtime for a given VA rating.
Choose backup power for the load and duration
Compare the complete setup against the backup device’s output and runtime information. Watts and VA are related but not interchangeable, so check both the maximum output watts and VA limits. Follow the manufacturer’s guidance on capacity headroom, battery use, and compatibility. A higher VA number by itself does not establish how long your PC will run.

| Option | Best suited to | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Computer UPS with battery backup | Short interruptions, brief bridging, or orderly shutdown | Maximum output watts and VA, manufacturer runtime chart at your measured load, transfer behavior, and output compatibility with the PC and connected equipment. |
| Home inverter and battery | Longer-duration household backup, depending on the installation and battery capacity | Whether it can support the full PC-and-network load for the desired duration, compatibility, installation requirements, and building-specific permissions or constraints. |
| Portable power station | A plug-in alternative to assess for the complete setup and desired duration | Output limits, usable energy and runtime information at your measured load, transfer behavior, and compatibility with the equipment. |
Schneider Electric India describes UPS devices as emergency backup and protection, while home inverters are oriented toward longer-duration household backup. That distinction is a useful starting point, not a guarantee that a particular device will run your setup for a particular length of time. Confirm current specifications with the manufacturer. Configure OBS for a network interruption
- Open OBS and go to Settings → Advanced.
- Find Automatically Reconnect and enable it. Confirm the settings shown in your installed OBS release; interface details and defaults can vary by version.
- Review the reconnect delay and retry settings available in that release. OBS’s output reference describes configurable reconnect behavior and retry intervals that double on each attempt. OBS output reference
- Use a wired Ethernet connection from the PC to the router when practical. It can avoid some Wi-Fi instability, but it cannot resolve a power loss or an ISP-side interruption.
- If the stream drops, check OBS’s connection guidance for the selected server, bitrate, and network conditions. Change settings based on the actual fault rather than assuming every disconnect has the same cause. OBS dropped frames and connection issues
Automatic reconnect applies to stream-output interruptions while OBS and the computer are running. It is not a power-failure recovery plan: it does not restart a shut-down PC, launch OBS after boot, restore missing credentials, or confirm that the platform has resumed the live stream.

- Save your OBS profile and scene collection. Confirm the sleep-sounds source is still available and configured after a normal restart.
- Connect the PC and every network device needed for streaming to the intended backup power. Check the backup device’s load against the combined watt draw.
- Test the UPS, inverter, or power station under the real setup. Observe whether the PC and network equipment remain on during transfer, and compare the result with the manufacturer’s runtime information.
- Simulate a network interruption while OBS remains powered and confirm that the reconnect behavior works with your streaming platform.
- Separately test the full power-loss sequence: restore power, start the PC, verify the network, open OBS, check the source and stream settings, and confirm the platform shows the stream live again.
Do not assume the last sequence will happen unattended. Whether a PC restarts after power returns and whether OBS and the stream resume depend on the computer’s firmware, operating system, OBS startup configuration, credentials, and streaming platform. Confirm each step on your own equipment before depending on it.

Troubleshooting when the stream stops
| Symptom | Likely area to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| PC turns off during the cut | Backup output capacity, connected outlets, battery condition, or runtime at the actual load | Check the PC is connected to battery-backed output, recalculate the combined load, and consult the device’s runtime chart. Reduce the backed-up load only if the remaining equipment still supports your recovery plan. |
| PC stays on but OBS disconnects | Router/ONT power, local network, ISP connection, selected server, or bitrate | Confirm the network devices stayed powered, inspect OBS connection status and settings, and use OBS’s troubleshooting guidance for server, bitrate, and networking checks. |
| Router stays on but internet is unavailable | ONT/modem power or the ISP’s wider network | Check whether the ONT/modem is also powered and has service. A local backup cannot ensure that the provider’s wider network remains available. |
| Power returns but the stream does not | PC startup behavior, OBS launch and scene state, credentials, or platform state | Follow the tested restart sequence and verify the live status on the platform. Configure and test any automatic startup behavior on the actual PC; do not infer it from OBS reconnect. |
| Backup runs for less time than expected | Actual load, battery age or condition, and runtime assumptions | Measure the connected load and use the current manufacturer runtime chart for that load. A VA rating alone does not specify runtime. |
Or let it run in the cloud

Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud. It does not stream from a camera.
- Nothing at home has to stay on for the cloud stream to keep running.
- Every slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
- StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free, with no card required.
Monthly: $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for the service details, then start the free first day.
