Use AI to draft marketplace listings, not to certify them. Start with verified product facts, give the model approved brand guidance, check every claim and image against the real item, and have a person approve the final version against the destination platform’s current rules.
How do I keep AI-generated product descriptions accurate?
Build the listing from an approved product record rather than asking a model to fill gaps. Google Search Central warns that generative output can be inaccurate and says it is critical to manually fact-check and review it before publication. The same principle applies to product listings: every factual assertion should have a source, and missing information should remain unknown rather than become a plausible-sounding guess.

1. Create a source-of-truth product record
Gather the approved facts for the exact item before prompting. Depending on the product, record its name and model, dimensions and units, materials, color, included components, compatibility, condition, care instructions, origin, certifications, warranty, and evidence for performance or health claims. Mark fields with no verified answer as unknown.
Keep a source reference for each material fact, such as an approved specification sheet or product-owner confirmation. If a generated claim has no supporting source, remove it or ask the responsible product owner for evidence. Send high-consequence claims—especially safety, health, compatibility, and performance statements—to an appropriately qualified reviewer. 2. Review each claim, not just the overall impression
Compare every title, bullet, description, attribute, and caption with the product record. Check model numbers, quantities, unit conversions, material composition, color, included accessories, compatibility, condition, and superlatives. Read the wording in context: an implication can promise more than the literal words or evidence support.

A claim ledger makes review traceable. Record the generated wording, the factual proposition it makes, its evidence source or owner, the reviewer, and the disposition: approved, edited, or removed. This is a useful internal control, not a marketplace-mandated format.

How can I make AI product listings sound like my brand?
Give the model a bounded brand brief alongside the verified product record. Include preferred product names and terminology, voice examples, target audience, spelling and capitalization preferences, formatting limits, approved positioning, and phrases or claims to avoid. Instruct it not to infer missing facts.
Review brand consistency separately from factual accuracy. A claim can be true but still use the wrong product name, tone, audience, spelling, or terminology. Conversely, a polished on-brand line can still make an unsupported promise. Do not allow brand language to introduce words such as “best,” “safest,” “clinically proven,” “eco-friendly,” or “made in [place]” unless the seller has appropriate support.
Amazon describes using a few descriptive terms, such as “quality leather” or “versatile for any occasion,” to steer brand-oriented A+ narratives. How should I review AI-generated product images?
Check each image against the actual item and what a buyer will receive. A generated setting or lifestyle scene should not misstate the product’s color, scale, finish, accessories, or condition. Do not let an image imply that an unlisted object is included or depict a customization the seller cannot deliver.

Etsy’s rules are specific to Etsy: for listings in its “made by a seller” category, it requires original photos or video of the final product. For personalized or custom goods, the first image must show a finished customized item. Read the current Etsy Creativity Standards and Etsy listing image requirements for the applicable listing category.
Do I have to disclose AI-generated product images or descriptions?
There is no single disclosure rule established here for every marketplace. Requirements depend on the platform, listing type, content, and, where relevant, jurisdiction. Check the live rules for the destination platform rather than treating one marketplace’s policy as universal.

Etsy
Etsy permits seller-prompted AI creations based on the seller’s original prompts under its “designed by a seller” category. It requires sellers to disclose in the listing description when an item was created with AI. Google Merchant Center
Google’s Merchant Center guidance distinguishes product-data labeling from image metadata. AI-generated product data, including title and description attributes, must be specified separately and labeled as AI-generated. AI-generated images must include IPTC DigitalSourceType metadata identifying TrainedAlgorithmicMedia. These are Google-specific requirements; consult the current Google Merchant Center guidance on AI-generated content for implementation details.
Amazon
An Amazon Seller Forums announcement from News_Amazon says media with photorealistic AI-generated people must have the keyword contains-synthetic-performer in the XMP dc:subject field before upload. The notice says, “This requirement only applies if your image or video contains photorealistic AI-generated people.” Because this is a platform-specific announcement and the rule may change, verify its current scope and timing in live Seller Central instructions before relying on it. What do Amazon’s AI listing tools do—and what do their figures show?
Amazon says its generative AI tools can draft titles, descriptions, and attributes from text, images, or an existing listing URL, and encourages sellers to review generated product details before submission. It later described broader listing and A+ Content generation, including the use of brand terms to guide content.
Amazon reported that sellers accepted suggested attributes nearly 80% of the time with minimal edits. That is Amazon’s reported acceptance rate, not an independent measure of accuracy. Amazon also reported in 2024 that more than 400,000 sellers globally had used its generative AI listing tools; that is an adoption figure, not proof of improved accuracy or brand quality. How do I approve and maintain a listing across channels?
- Generate from approved inputs. Keep the product record and brand brief with the prompt or workflow used to create the draft.
- Review facts and brand fit separately. Use the claim ledger to record evidence and decisions, then check voice, terminology, and prohibited language against the brand brief.
- Check the destination’s current requirements. Confirm the platform’s field, disclosure, image, and metadata rules for the specific category and media.
- Assign a named final approver. A responsible person should approve the final customer-facing copy and imagery before publication.
- Recheck after changes. Review translations, edits, bulk uploads, and marketplace syndication, since a correct source listing can be transformed into inaccurate destination copy.
