To keep prerecorded videos streaming on YouTube around the clock without leaving your PC on, use a cloud playout service: upload your video or playlist, connect it to your YouTube channel, and start the stream. The provider’s cloud handles playback and delivery, so your computer can be switched off. YouTube still has to accept the stream, and the cloud service still has to stay available—so test the setup and monitor it rather than assuming it cannot go down.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that is verified and eligible to livestream. YouTube says it must have had no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time streaming with an encoder can take up to 24 hours to activate. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Prerecorded videos that you own or are authorized to use, including their audio and visuals.
- A cloud service that explicitly supports continuous prerecorded output to YouTube. A cloud playout service, not an encoder running on your PC, keeps the computer out of the always-on path.
If you want to use YouTube’s encoder workflow, it provides a server URL and a stream key. The key is a credential that lets a service send a feed to your channel; keep it private and do not paste it into public messages or videos. Some cloud services connect through channel authorization instead.
Set up a 24/7 stream from the cloud
- Confirm that your channel can go live. Verify the channel and check for restrictions in YouTube Studio before paying for or configuring a service. If this is your first encoder stream, allow time for YouTube’s activation process, which may take up to 24 hours.
- Choose a cloud playout service. Check that its current plan supports continuous YouTube streaming of prerecorded videos. Compare the number of simultaneous streams, storage and playlist limits, supported quality, recovery behavior, and any maximum run length or plan requirement.
- Upload your video or build a playlist. Use source files you have the right to broadcast. If you are making a playlist, check its order and make sure each item is available to play for the entire intended run.
- Connect the correct YouTube channel. Follow the service’s channel authorization flow or enter YouTube’s live server URL and stream key if requested. Double-check that the selected channel is the one you mean to broadcast on.
- Choose a quality and test the stream. YouTube recommends choosing a quality your upload connection can support, testing before going live, and checking stream health. For H.264, its current recommended bitrate is 6 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 12 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps; recommendations differ by codec, resolution, and frame rate. Use RTMPS when supported for encrypted contribution. See YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.
- Start the stream and check its status. Confirm that YouTube reports the stream as live and that the intended video is playing. Once the cloud service is delivering the stream, the PC used to upload or configure it can be turned off.
- Plan how to handle the archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is an archive threshold, not a maximum live duration; do not rely on a stream lasting longer than 12 hours to become a complete, usable VOD. Decide separately how you will preserve or publish recordings.

Copyright, originality, and monetization
Being live continuously does not make a channel eligible for monetization. YouTube’s monetization rules apply to livestreams as well as other uploads. They expect original, authentic material made for viewers’ enjoyment or education; mass-produced, generic, repetitive, or manipulative content can fail review. YouTube also says minimally changed reused content may violate its reused-content policy even when the creator has permission. A channel repeatedly looping near-identical material should not assume it will be approved or monetized. Make sure you have rights to the audio and visuals, and that the content has meaningful originality. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies.

Public watch-hour qualification is a separate issue from whether a stream can stay live. YouTube says livestream watch hours from streams that are unlisted, deleted, or not converted to VOD do not count as qualified public watch hours. Review the applicable rules in YouTube Partner Programme eligibility guidance and handle archives deliberately.
Troubleshooting common problems
