YouTube Studio also lets channel owners add their own uploads to selected playlists. The official Help pages reviewed do not document a built-in rule that automatically adds every future upload to a separate playlist.
What “live” means for a YouTube playlist
A YouTube playlist is a collection of videos, not a live broadcast. If by “live” you mean that the playlist should include each new upload, the reliable native method is to add each video after publishing. If you mean an actual continuous YouTube livestream, playlist upkeep is a separate task: adding a video to a playlist does not make it play as a live stream.
Add a new video to an existing playlist
From the video page
- Open the newly published video or Short.
- Select More → Save (the control may appear as Save to playlist).
- Choose the existing playlist.
- Confirm the selection.
Repeat these steps for each new upload. The reviewed YouTube Help instructions describe a user-initiated save, not an automatic future-upload rule. Controls can vary by context: YouTube Help says a made-for-kids video cannot be added to a playlist from the homepage; its desktop instructions say it can still be added from search results.
From YouTube Studio on Android
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Content.
- Tap Options beside the video, then Edit.
- Tap Add to playlist, choose one or more playlists, and tap Done.
- Tap Save.
After adding videos, you can edit playlist settings and drag videos into the order you want. Check the playlist’s visibility if viewers need to find it.

Choose the right way to maintain the playlist

Can YouTube automatically add new uploads?
The YouTube Help pages reviewed explain how to save individual videos and how channel owners can add their videos to playlists in Studio. They do not document a native setting that automatically adds every future channel upload to a separate playlist. That distinction matters: a playlist can be edited by its owner or collaborators, but neither workflow is an automatic upload rule.
Automate with the YouTube Data API
For a technical workflow, an authorized application can call the YouTube Data API’s playlistItems.insert method, supplying the target playlist ID and video ID. The method requires OAuth authorization and costs 50 quota units per insert, according to Google’s API reference. YouTube represents a channel’s uploads as an uploads playlist, but the insert reference says a video cannot be inserted into that uploads playlist. Use a separate target playlist.

The API documentation establishes the building block, not a ready-made service or a particular third-party connector. Before relying on an integration, check that its current YouTube connector supports the needed trigger, requests appropriate authorization scopes, and can insert into your target playlist.
Share the upkeep with collaborators
YouTube’s collaborative playlist option lets invited people contribute videos. It can divide human curation among a team, but it does not remove the need for someone to add each video.

When to use an official series playlist
YouTube describes a series playlist as “an official set of videos that should be viewed together.” YouTube may feature or recommend other videos in the series while someone watches one. This can suit an episodic channel, but it is a viewing and discovery designation—not a rule for adding future uploads.
- Your account must be verified.
- Each video can appear in only one series playlist.
- Only videos uploaded by you that you have rights to can be included.
If you mean a continuous YouTube livestream
Playlist editing alone does not keep a live broadcast running. Can I add a YouTube Short to an existing playlist?
Yes. Open the Short and use More → Save, then choose the playlist. YouTube may show the control differently depending on the context.

Can collaborators automatically add videos for me?
No. Collaborators can contribute to a shared playlist, but each addition is still a person’s action.
