To keep a prerecorded playlist streaming to YouTube while your computer is off, the video must be played and sent by something other than that computer: a cloud service that supports playlist looping, or dedicated hardware such as the AJA HELO Plus with its optional PlayToStream functionality. Scheduling a YouTube Live event by itself does not play video. For a cloud option, StreamNeo lets you upload videos, add your YouTube stream key, and start a looping stream from its servers.
What has to keep running when your computer is off
A YouTube livestream needs an encoder or hosted service to send a live feed. If the playlist is being played and encoded on the computer you turn off, the feed stops. To keep it running, move that work to a device that stays on or to a service that runs in the cloud.
Scheduling an event in YouTube Studio creates and promotes the event and can let viewers opt into notifications; it does not play or encode your playlist. An encoder or service still has to send the video feed. YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance describes the encoder workflow.

Compare options by whether they keep playing with your home computer off, loop and resume the playlist as needed, and provide monitoring and recovery that suit your use. Also weigh setup effort and recurring service cost against hardware and ongoing power and maintenance.

Set up the YouTube side first
Check eligibility and permissions
- YouTube’s live-streaming tips say the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days.
- Make sure you have the rights or permission needed to livestream every item in the playlist. A video’s public availability on YouTube does not grant permission to rebroadcast it.
Get the stream details and protect the key
In YouTube Studio, create or open the live stream in Live Control Room and use its stream URL and stream key in your encoder or service. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your stream. Do not publish it or share it outside the setup.
If you want a scheduled event, set that up separately in YouTube Studio, then ensure your encoder or service is configured to send its feed at the right time. The event does not start playlist playback on its own.

Configure the playback method
For a cloud playlist service
- Upload the recording or build the playlist in the service, and check its stated limits for file size, storage, and playlist behavior.
- Enter the YouTube stream key where the service requests it. Verify that the destination is YouTube Live and that the service supports repeating prerecorded videos in the way you need.
- Start the stream and check the Live Control Room preview, audio, video, and stream health before relying on unattended playback.
- Confirm what happens if YouTube disconnects or the service restarts: whether playback resumes automatically, starts at the beginning, or needs manual intervention.
For dedicated hardware
YouTube’s encoder guidance identifies the AJA HELO Plus as standalone hardware and says optional PlayToStream can schedule prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer. Before buying, verify the exact configuration supports your intended playlist length, looping or restart behavior, and YouTube workflow. The YouTube description establishes scheduling prerecorded media, but does not by itself confirm every playlist-loop detail.
For local software on a separate machine
Configure the software encoder with YouTube’s stream URL and key, add the playlist as its media source, and set the software to repeat if that function is available in your chosen setup. The separate machine and its network connection must remain powered and connected. Test a full playback cycle and interruption behavior before leaving it unattended.

Test and monitor the stream
YouTube warns that network disruptions can break a live stream. Its live-streaming tips recommend testing the actual audio and video, checking the Live Control Room preview and stream health, setting up the encoder in advance, leaving upload-bandwidth headroom, and monitoring the feed. These checks still matter when encoding is handled by a cloud service or dedicated device: the source, connection, and service all need a recovery plan.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived after they end. Do not assume that a single feed can run indefinitely or that a longer stream will necessarily archive as expected.
