To keep a warehouse or factory tour live on YouTube continuously, keep a camera feed flowing through an encoder with stable power and internet, leave upload bandwidth headroom, and monitor both the stream and a local recording. A stream running longer than 12 hours may not be captured as a YouTube replay, so treat the local recording as your archive. If you want to loop prerecorded tour footage rather than show a live camera feed, a cloud service such as StreamNeo is another option.
Decide what “continuous” means for your tour
A live camera tour and a loop of prerecorded footage are different productions. A camera tour shows current activity at the site and depends on the camera, encoder, power, and network working continuously. A prerecorded loop can continue to play without a camera operator or a computer at the site, but it is not a live view of current warehouse or factory activity.

- For a live site view: use a camera and an encoder, and plan for power, internet, monitoring, and recovery when something fails.
- For an always-on showcase: use prerecorded footage in a repeating playlist. Make clear to viewers that the video is prerecorded rather than implying it shows the site in real time.
- For the replay: plan a separate recording and archive workflow. A continuous live feed does not guarantee YouTube will save one full-length replay.
Check channel eligibility and prepare the YouTube stream
- Verify live-stream access. The channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days.
- Create or configure the live stream in YouTube Studio. Set the title, description, audience and other details for the tour, then configure the stream and its viewing options. YouTube exposes DVR, latency, and auto-start and auto-stop settings; choose these to suit how viewers will use the feed.
- Choose an encoder. A computer running encoding software can work for a modest setup if it can be dedicated to the task. YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events. Hardware is an option, not a guarantee of unattended reliability; check how the particular device handles monitoring, local recording, and recovery.
- Keep the stream key private. Copy the YouTube server URL and stream key into the encoder’s streaming settings. Anyone with access to the key may be able to send video to your stream, so do not publish it or place it in a public document.
Set resolution, frame rate, and bitrate around the site connection
Choose a picture size and frame rate the site’s measured upload connection can sustain steadily, not just the fastest result from a single speed test. YouTube recommends that the stream’s total bitrate stay below available upload bandwidth, with 20% left over as headroom. That is a recommendation, not a promise of uninterrupted service; network disruption can still break a stream.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

| H.264 output | YouTube-recommended bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s published H.264 recommendations, not universal minimums or a guarantee that the connection can sustain them. A moving forklift, conveyor belt, or busy loading area can be more demanding to encode than a mostly static view. Test representative movement and audio from the actual camera position. If you send separate primary and backup encoder feeds, include both feeds’ upload use in your capacity planning.

- Prefer RTMPS when the encoder supports it.
- Use a constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval, as YouTube recommends.
- YouTube’s documented encoder settings support H.264, H.265, and AV1. Confirm that your chosen encoder and workflow support the codec you intend to use.
- If the stream health is unstable, lower the resolution, frame rate, or bitrate until the connection has reliable headroom, then test again.
Test the whole production before leaving it unattended
- Connect the camera and encoder. Confirm the image is framed as intended, the audio is usable, and the encoder is sending to the correct YouTube server URL and stream key.
- Run a representative test. Check ordinary activity and the busiest expected movement, as well as the site’s normal lighting and sound. YouTube recommends preparing the encoder well before an event; its guidance also mentions starting preparation two hours ahead and being ready 15 minutes before a scheduled start. Those are event-preparation recommendations, not guarantees of 24/7 uptime.
- Check the Live Control Room. Inspect the preview and stream health while the encoder is running. Resolve warnings or instability before relying on the setup unattended.
- Test failure recovery. YouTube advises testing encoder failover. Simulate the recovery steps you expect to use for a dropped encoder or connection. Confirm what viewers see, how a backup takes over, and who receives an alert. Reusing a stream key or enabling auto-start by itself does not guarantee continuous publishing.
- Verify a local recording. Start local recording and check that the file grows and plays back correctly. Confirm that the storage destination has room for the planned recording duration and that someone can verify it periodically.
Plan for power, internet, and encoder failures
A continuous stream is only as dependable as the parts feeding it. YouTube’s guidance supports testing backup-encoder failover, but does not prescribe a complete site power or network redundancy design. Build the recovery plan around the actual warehouse or factory network, power, camera, and encoder.
- Power: identify which equipment loses power in an outage and how the stream is restored afterward. A powered camera with an offline encoder, for example, still cannot publish.
- Internet: measure upload stability at the encoder’s location and at the times the stream will run. Determine how the connection will recover after an outage and whether a genuinely independent backup path is available at the site.
- Encoder: decide who will notice a stopped stream and what they will do. If a backup encoder is part of the plan, test the handoff rather than assuming it will happen cleanly.
- Monitoring: assign someone to check stream health, the image, and local recording integrity. A stream that still appears online may nevertheless be showing a frozen image or unusable audio.
For warehouse and factory footage, also decide what the camera must not show. Keep sensitive screens, restricted areas, shipment labels, access controls, and people who have not agreed to appear out of frame where appropriate. Set access and filming rules for the site before leaving a camera unattended.

Keep an archive YouTube may not preserve
YouTube Help says, “If your live stream is less than 12 hours, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.” It also warns, “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” Do not rely on a single uninterrupted 24/7 stream to create a complete YouTube replay. Keep and verify a local archive, and if a replay matters, investigate a separate recording or segmented-broadcast workflow that suits your production.
For a programmatic setup, YouTube’s API documentation describes using one stream resource for a continuous 24/7 feed and a separate broadcast resource for an interview carried on that feed. That is a developer workflow, not a simple unattended setting: it requires careful management of broadcast states. Plan it only if you have the technical capacity to manage and validate those state changes.

Choose viewer settings for a tour, not a breaking-news broadcast
- DVR: enabling DVR lets viewers pause and rewind the live stream. That can help someone inspect a part of the tour they missed.
- Latency: lower latency can increase buffering. If viewers are not interacting with a live presenter, near-real-time delivery may matter less than a stable picture.
- Auto-start and auto-stop: YouTube offers these settings, but they do not replace monitoring or a tested recovery plan. Do not treat them as a guarantee that an encoder, camera, or network failure will be fixed.
Troubleshoot the failures most likely to interrupt a 24/7 feed
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Stream health becomes unstable or the stream disconnects | Upload capacity is insufficient or fluctuating, or another connection disruption has occurred. | Check the actual upload available to the encoder, account for all feeds using the connection, leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and reduce bitrate or output demands if needed. Test the connection again under representative conditions. |
| YouTube receives no encoder feed | The encoder is stopped, the server URL or stream key is wrong, or the encoder has lost its network connection. | Check encoder status and network connectivity, then verify the configured YouTube server URL and key. Keep the key private, and confirm the correct stream is selected in the encoder. |
| Video is present but looks poor during busy activity | The chosen bitrate, frame rate, or resolution may not suit the available connection or the amount of movement. | Test footage with realistic movement. Adjust the output settings to a level the connection can sustain while keeping adequate upload headroom. |
| Viewers report buffering | The connection or delivery settings may not suit the stream, and lower latency can increase buffering. | Review stream health and the selected latency setting. When immediate interaction is not important, prioritize stability over the lowest possible latency. |
| A long stream has no complete YouTube replay | The broadcast exceeded 12 hours; YouTube may not capture it at all. | Use the verified local recording as the archive. If a YouTube replay is required, plan a separate recording or a segmented workflow rather than assuming the full continuous stream will be saved. |
| The stream is online, but the picture is frozen or the audio is unusable | The camera, capture path, or audio input may have stalled while the encoder continues sending. | Check the actual preview and local recording, not only whether the encoder is connected. Inspect camera and audio connections and include image and sound checks in the monitoring routine. |
