YouTube does not document a built-in setting that turns an uploaded video into an indefinitely running livestream: the encoder supplies the live feed, and it must keep running and be monitored. What you need for a 24/7 YouTube livestream
The basic setup is a verified, eligible YouTube channel, video files you have the right to stream, and an encoder that sends a live feed to YouTube using a server URL and stream key. YouTube supports software and hardware encoders; it does not require a paid encoder or expensive equipment to start. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified, must not have live-streaming restrictions from the previous 90 days, and the creator must be at least 16.

For a continuous broadcast, the encoder must stay connected and someone should be able to respond to failures. Keeping the feed live and preserving a replay are separate requirements: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but its encoder guide does not promise a single complete archive for a longer broadcast. Check the current Live Control Room behavior and use planned segments if you need replays. YouTube’s encoder setup guide documents the connection and archive rule.

Use material you are authorized to broadcast
Only queue videos, music, and other material you have the necessary rights to livestream. YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party content. A match can trigger a warning, placeholder, interruption, or termination. A license alone may not prevent an interruption: the rights holder may also need to allowlist your channel through Content ID. Review YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance and its livestream terms and conditions.

Make a deliberate playlist
Arrange videos in the order you want viewers to see them, then configure the encoder to play or loop the playlist. Check transitions, audio levels, and the end of the playlist before going live. Do not assume that YouTube will loop a video or playlist for you; looping is part of the encoder or service workflow.
Set up the stream in YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio and Live Control Room. Create or schedule a livestream, then choose the encoder workflow.
- Get the connection details. Copy the server URL and stream key from the event’s stream settings. YouTube explains these fields in Manage live stream settings. Treat the stream key like a password: do not post or share it, and reset it if it is exposed.
- Configure your encoder. Enter the server URL and stream key, select the playlist or video source, and set the output options supported by your encoder and YouTube’s current Live Control Room guidance. The cited YouTube setup material does not establish one universal bitrate, resolution, or keyframe value for every source and connection, so use the current recommendations shown for your stream rather than relying on a guessed preset.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. Confirm that the Live Control Room receives video and audio, the event is accessible as intended, and the playlist behaves correctly. YouTube’s live-streaming tips advise preparation, monitoring, testing, and checking encoder failover where relevant.
- Go live and keep watch. Starting the encoder sends the feed; follow the event controls in Live Control Room to begin the broadcast. For 24/7 operation, arrange a way to notice a disconnected feed, encoder problem, or copyright warning and take action.
Choose a software encoder, hardware encoder, or cloud service

For independent operation, compare the need for hands-on control against the effort of keeping a local computer and connection available; the official guidance does not provide product-level uptime comparisons.

Plan around replays and monetization
Do not rely on one 24-hour archive
YouTube’s documented automatic-archive rule applies to streams under 12 hours. If the replay matters, plan shorter broadcast segments and verify the archive options in Live Control Room before relying on a long-running schedule. The guide does not fully specify archive handling beyond that threshold.

Monetization is not automatic
Live ads may be available to eligible channels, but YouTube does not guarantee that ad slots will serve. Repetitive or mass-produced material may also be ineligible under its inauthentic-content policy. Review YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance and channel monetization policies; do not plan around guaranteed earnings or approval.

Troubleshoot common 24/7 stream problems
- The preview does not receive a signal: Check that the encoder uses the correct server URL and current stream key, and that the selected video source is active.
- The stream stops unexpectedly: Check the encoder, computer or service status, and network connection. For a local setup, the computer and connection need to remain available; use monitoring and test failover where your setup supports it.
- The livestream is interrupted or replaced with a placeholder: Check Live Control Room for a copyright warning or match. Confirm the required rights and whether the rights holder must allowlist your channel.
- A full replay is missing after a long broadcast: YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours, not a guaranteed complete archive for a continuous 24/7 stream. Plan segments and verify current archive behavior.
- Ads do not appear or monetization is unavailable: Ad delivery is not guaranteed, and channel or content eligibility rules apply. Check the relevant monetization policy rather than assuming a live stream will earn revenue.
