You can keep a YouTube channel live around the clock by scheduling a YouTube Live event and connecting it to an encoder or streaming service that continuously sends prerecorded video. Scheduling creates the event and its watch page; it does not play the video by itself. You can run the feed from a computer, use a cloud service such as StreamNeo, or use supported dedicated hardware.
How 24/7 scheduled playback works
A scheduled YouTube Live event gives viewers an upcoming watch page they can share and set reminders for. A separate encoder or service must send the video feed to YouTube using the stream URL and stream key. YouTube describes an encoder as software or hardware that converts video into a digital format for streaming (YouTube’s encoder guide).

For a continuous prerecorded broadcast, the encoder or service must keep playing your video or playlist and maintain the connection. If it stops, the scheduled event alone will not keep the channel live.

StreamNeo: cloud playback for YouTube
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or create a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live; StreamNeo loops the video from the cloud, so your computer and home internet connection do not need to stay on. It is the first option to consider if you want an always-on cloud stream, any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and a free first day.

Software encoder on a computer
A computer-based encoder gives you local control and can send video to YouTube using the stream URL and key. The computer, encoder, and internet connection must remain available for the broadcast. Plan for operating-system updates, power or network interruptions, playlist automation, and a way to monitor and restart the stream.
Other cloud services or dedicated hardware
YouTube’s encoder directory lists cloud services Gyre and Upstream as options for continuous streaming, and its hardware encoder list names the AJA HELO Plus. YouTube describes the HELO Plus’s PlayToStream functionality as supporting scheduled prerecorded media without a computer. These are alternatives, not requirements: check each provider’s current features, supported media, schedule controls, costs, storage, monitoring, and recovery process before choosing.
Compare the operational trade-offs rather than assuming a more expensive encoder is necessary. A computer shifts uptime and recovery work to you; a cloud service shifts continuous feed delivery to the provider; dedicated hardware avoids using a general-purpose computer but still requires you to understand its media workflow and monitoring.
Set up and schedule the YouTube Live event
1. Enable live streaming in advance
Verify your channel and enable live streaming in YouTube Studio. YouTube says the channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days; first-time enablement can take up to 24 hours. Check the current live-streaming eligibility requirements before your planned launch.
2. Create the scheduled event
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live.
- Open the Manage tab and schedule the stream.
- Set the title, description, visibility, and other event details. Scheduling creates the upcoming event page; share its URL if you want viewers to find it before the start and opt into reminders.
- Review the event’s auto-start and auto-stop settings, especially if you are reusing an existing stream configuration.
3. Connect the encoder or service
In the event’s stream settings, obtain the YouTube stream URL and stream key, then enter them in your software encoder, cloud service, or supported hardware workflow. The key functions like a password for sending the feed: keep it private, do not include it in a public description or screenshot, and reset it if you believe it has been exposed.
4. Prepare the video and output settings
Use media and settings supported by your chosen encoder. YouTube’s general encoder guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS and lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video codecs, with AAC or MP3 audio. It recommends constant bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension of RTMP, and advises choosing a bitrate your upload connection can sustain. Consult its current live encoder settings and bitrate table for the output resolution and frame rate you intend to send; platform specifications can change.

As one specific platform reference, YouTube’s table lists 2 Mbps as the recommended bitrate for 720p at 30 fps and a 6 Mbps range maximum. That is a YouTube specification for that format, not a universal quality target or proof that a particular home connection can sustain the stream. Leave headroom on the upload connection and test the selected output before relying on it.

5. Start, preview, and go live
- Start the encoder or cloud playback early enough to send a signal to YouTube.
- In Live Control Room, confirm that the preview appears and review stream health.
- When the scheduled event is ready, select Go Live if your event settings require it.
- Open the public watch page from the channel and check that viewers can reach it. Test from a mobile device as well.
Test the stream and plan for recovery
YouTube’s event-planning guidance recommends setting up an encoder at least two hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes beforehand, then checking the preview, watch-page access, and audio and video quality. For a 24/7 channel, treat those as pre-launch checks and add ongoing monitoring and a recovery plan.
- Confirm the video and audio are present and in sync in the preview and on the public watch page.
- Check the stream health indicator and verify that the selected bitrate is stable on the actual upload connection.
- If you use a backup encoder, test failover before relying on it.
- Decide who or what will detect a dropped feed and restart it. Recovery behavior depends on the encoder or service you choose.
- Keep a separate local recording if you need a complete archive independent of YouTube’s automatic archiving.
Understand scheduling, archives, and channel rules
Scheduling is promotion, not playback
The scheduled watch page can be shared before the stream begins, and viewers can opt into reminders. Scheduling itself does not start a continuous prerecorded feed; an encoder or streaming service must provide it.
Do not rely on a complete automatic archive for a 24-hour stream
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A continuous broadcast longer than 12 hours should not be assumed to produce a complete automatic replay. If retaining the full program matters, record it separately or plan shorter segments and verify YouTube’s current handling before launch.
Check copyright and content suitability
Only stream video and audio you have the rights or permissions to use. A continuous loop does not remove copyright obligations, and YouTube’s policies and enforcement can affect a live stream or channel. Review YouTube’s current Community Guidelines and applicable copyright requirements; do not assume that repeating content or scheduling it makes it permissible. Also avoid treating a 24/7 schedule as a guarantee of audience growth, discovery, watch time, or revenue.

The scheduled page exists, but no video appears
Scheduling created the event, but the encoder may not be sending a feed. Start the encoder or cloud playback, confirm the stream URL and key, and look for a preview in Live Control Room.

YouTube does not accept the stream key
Check that you copied the key for the intended event or stream configuration and that it was not changed. Never post the key publicly. If it may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder or service with the replacement.
The stream keeps dropping or looks unstable
Check stream health and whether the upload connection can sustain the selected bitrate. Reduce the output bitrate if necessary, confirm the encoder’s connection and power, and review how your chosen service or hardware handles reconnects. Test any backup encoder or recovery procedure before depending on it.
The event does not start or stop as expected
Review the event’s auto-start and auto-stop controls and whether the workflow requires you to select Go Live after the preview appears. Check the event schedule and start the feed early enough to inspect it.
